25.01.2022 GLENRAC's Walk in the Snow Gums at "Platypus Run" last Saturday was, in the words of one of our participants, 'a delightful mixture of great people, eco-helpers, farmers and interested persons in a magical place learning of the fascinating plants, creatures and soils that our world depends on.' Our 40 participants heard about helping Snow Gums and Ribbon Gums regenerate from Ben Vincent and Tim Paine (UNE Environment). John Hunter explained much about the endangered Regent H...oneyeater and the role of the upland peatlands, lagoons and grasslands - features of the New England that are so important. Liz Blair (NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust officer) explained property conservation agreements and offsetting. Many thanks to Anya Salmon and Ian Trow (Northern Tablelands Local Land Services officers) for their information and assistance on the day.

23.01.2022 We had a lovely morning out at Little Llangothlin Lagoon Ramsar site this morning spotting snowgums and collecting old tree guards with GLENRAC's Dr Mahri Koch. It was beautiful to see so much groundcover at the Lagoon despite the lack of water in the lagoon itself. Fingers crossed much needed rains reach the area to replenish the declining water levels. Mahri has been working at this site in partnership with Northern Tablelands Local Land Services, NSW National Parks and Wi...ldlife Service, UNE Environment scientists and Banbai Rangers as part of the Australian Government National Landcare Program to protect the Lagoon, its threatened species and ecological communities, for future generations. - DID YOU KNOW? A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. (The Convention on Wetlands, known as the Ramsar Convention, is an intergovernmental environmental treaty established in 1971 by UNESCO, which came into force in 1975.) Australia has 65 Ramsar sites, with the Little Llangothlin Lagoon one of only 12 Ramsar sites in NSW. If you're looking for a unique experience this summer, consider taking a bush walk around the Lagoon. It's an easily accessible drive from Glen Innes or Armidale and the 5km circuit is delightful!
