24.01.2022 GMR volunteers are continuing their work between Lowanna and Little Nymboida River and are making great progress. The attached photos are from last weekends efforts near the ACL siding

24.01.2022 View of the Road Crossing north of Moleton Station. This was a visit after working down at Lowanna clearing the rail corridor.

23.01.2022 A great day at this years Glenreagh Timber Festival with many visitors to the exhibits inside our Wynne Cranston Shed. The kids had a great time!

22.01.2022 The extension of our Wynne Cranston shed has been completed and we are now waiting for a final Council inspection. While the latest colours are not identical to the original, it is a very acceptable match as you can see in the attached photos. Our vintage TAM 72"6" sleeping car is now completely under cover.

21.01.2022 No 2 end of the rail motor now looks the way it should with both radiators now installed....cooling water pipework to follow. Wash basin now installed in the toilet.

20.01.2022 For the last 2 weekends the GMR crew has been working at Lowanna clearing the track between Grafton St and Cavanaghs Road in preparation for the upcoming trike weekend. Before and after photos show the amount of work required to keep the vegetation at bay, particularly after recent rain.

20.01.2022 While work has slowed on the shed extension due to the ongoing rain there has been some progress since the earlier photos.

20.01.2022 The vinyl flooring was laid in the 2 passenger compartments of the Rail Motor last week

19.01.2022 Work continues on the rail motor No 2 end with visors fabricated and fitter to the exterior and interior of the cab. You will also see that the cooling water pipes have been fitted from the overhead radiators to the header below the sub frame. These pipes have been prepared from new material by John Shipman with help from other GMR volunteers.

19.01.2022 The foundations for our Wynne Cranston Shed extensions were poured late last year and the steel work erection started this week. The attached photos show progress on both ends of the shed.to date.

17.01.2022 Sadly, the elevated water tank in Glenreagh Yard was demolished without warning late last month and is now a pile of rubble. Nothing appears salvageable...

17.01.2022 GMR members travelled to Queensland to participate in an ASSCO 'section car' run over Friday 19, Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 February. Over the three days we travelled in excess of 600 kilometres between Warwick - Goondiwindi, Goondiwindi - Thallon, Thallon - Goondiwindi and Goondiwindi back to Warwick. The weather was good for the trip although very warm and we saw some interesting outback scenery. ASSCO have some excellent runs throughout the year so if you enjoy travelling on a trike or section car it is worth looking into. GMR are happy to promote our unique hobby and assist like minded associations. We all had a great time with a fantastic bunch of people who love their section cars!

16.01.2022 Some interior photos of the new shed extensions after completion. TAM under cover at last. We now need to reinstate the rails and sleepers removed for access during construction.

15.01.2022 GMR members took advantage of the beautiful weather on the Australia day weekend to get together and take their trikes out for a run at Lowanna. Our younger members were trained in some track maintenance involving greasing fish plates and resleepering. We all rode to the current track limit then walked to Moleton bridges 2 and 3 and viewed some beautiful scenery including the river and waterfalls. Hopefully we will be able to ride all the way to the bridges in the new future. New members are always welcome to join us and experience a unique hobby in a unique location.

15.01.2022 GMR members who are also members of the Crookwell Heritage Railway travelled to Crookwell for the wedding of members Lenny Stewart and Carissa Swift on Saturday 6 March. After a delay of 12 months it was worth the wait as the weather was sunny and the wedding was beautiful with the bride and bridal party arriving in classic Holden cars and then after the ceremony at the station the bride and groom departed in a NSWGR SIC trike and the bridal party on NSWGR VW and Wickham trikes. A reception followed at the local Services Club. As I say families that trike together stay together so we wish Lenny and Carissa many years of triking and happiness.

15.01.2022 In preparation for moving the rail motor over the pit that was occupied by our steam locomotives, 1919 has now been moved to 1 Road. Once the rail motor is moved, we will have much greater and more convenient access to the underside to expedite re installation of air brake mechanical components and pipework, as well as the electrical wiring.

14.01.2022 Work resumed at our Glenreagh West depot with clearing of the walkways between the side walls and rolling stock begun and operations on the coachwork, cooling water piping and compartment access ladders on the rail motor have re-commenced

14.01.2022 Traveling 1.8km north of Lowanna. 09/05/2020 Line is too steep for trike and trailer so it slows down at the end of video.

14.01.2022 Bridge North of Moleton. Condition is poor.

13.01.2022 Track work continued last weekend near the ACL siding with sleeper repairs and the removal of a temporary road crossing.

13.01.2022 The boys have been busy on the rail motor in the last few months. The missing drivers cab exterior and interior visors have been fabricated and fitted and a start was made on the cooling water pipework from the radiators on the roof. The water to the toilet is now fully functional and the pipework to fill the overhead tank and the associated pipework for the cooling water reservoir is being worked on. The hand CW priming pump has also been installed. The engine air intake pi...pe has been installed up through the roof in the guards compartment and the top cover fitted. The cover has now been installed over the engine air intake pipe and the horizontal enclosure on the LHS is ready for the fitting of the torque converter oil pressure and temperature gauges enclosure. The guards emergency air dump valve piping can be seen alongside . The seats have been fitted in the second class compartment and the interior is now starting to look like it did during its years of service. Both battery boxes have been installed, the local engine control box has been mounted under the floor and the centrifugal switch on the engine has been refurbished and refitted to the engine with new dust covers for the contactor housing..They have put air into the magnet valves controlling forward and reverse after cleaning out the airlines and they have been able to successfully move the final drive between forward and reverse. They are also refurbishing the forward and reverse sensing rotary switch which sits on top of the final drive and transmits this information to the drivers cabs.

12.01.2022 An important milestone was reached last week when the material for the Wynne Cranston Shed extensions was delivered to Glenreagh West. Meanwhile our volunteers are busy preparing the site at each end to allow access for construction which is expected to begin in about a months time. Our new petrol powered rattle gun and accessories also arrived in time to make the removal of some rails (required for access) much easier and quicker. The rattle gun and accessories were funded by a grant received under the Australian Governments Volunteer Grants 2018 program.

10.01.2022 It has come to our attention that members of the public and 4WD tourist operators are accessing or attempting to access the GMR rail corridor in the vicinity of the 2 tunnels and in some instances are crossing nearby residential property to gain that access. GMR operates subject to the requirements of the National Rail Safety Law and Regulation and is audited on its compliance with those laws which includes control over access to its rail corridor. As owner of its 35kms of rail corridor.,including the two tunnels, entry is subject to GMRs prior written approval. Any application for entry must be forwarded to the GMR secretary must be accompanied by written evidence of permission from any affected landowner..

09.01.2022 In CPH news, the first of the radiators has been mounted on the No 2 end with the second to follow in about 2 weeks. The luggage racks have been installed in the first class compartment.

09.01.2022 The previous post showed 1919 in its old location; this is where it is now located on 1 Road

08.01.2022 Photos of last weekend's track clearing at Lowanna progressing towards Ulong.

08.01.2022 Plenty of progress on the rail motor. Micah and Wayne are doing a very professional job with the electrical wiring and installation of instruments and switches. The cooling water pipework is well advanced and Ray continues to sort out various issues concerning the electrics and control systems. Peter meanwhile has completed all the passenger seating apart from in the drivers cabs which are being left until all the controls are installed and tested. He has also done a fabulous job with the installation of the vinyl flooring in the guards compartment.

08.01.2022 A clearer photo of the 2 throttle valves partly dis-assembled

07.01.2022 During the recent holiday season we were affected by a break in at our Glenreagh West depot when some items were stolen. Among the items stolen was one of the throttles for our rail motor. It will be almost impossible to replace and it is unlikely it can be manufactured so could you all please look out for it. The attached photo shows what they look like.

07.01.2022 Rail motor update. Micah, our electrician is working on renewing the wiring for the drivers instrument panel.while John Shipman is fitting the radiator mounting brackets to the roof. He is also trial assembling the radiators on the bench to check and once he is sure that everything fits correctly the joints will be sealed and bolted together. Peter Rheinberger meanwhile has been working on the toilet and also the pipework in the No 1 end drivers cab..

06.01.2022 Machsville Railway Centenary event will be happening on 30 June

06.01.2022 Congratulations to our friends at Crookwell Heritage railway for the coverage recently received from the ABC promoting their Rail Explorer concept for use on the disused heritage line there. Great progress is being made to bring the plan to reality. This is something we could also no doubt consider to adopt at Glenreagh and Lowanna to allow people to enjoy the beautiful environment our line travels through. https://www.abc.net.au//ride-the-rails-pitched-to/13247064

06.01.2022 This starts at a cuting - going south back to Moleton. Huon is seen at the start.

06.01.2022 The interior of the No 1 end of the rail motor is now complete except for laying the vinyl floor which will be done when the other passenger compartment is complete. Electrical work has resumed and the radiators are being cleaned and assembled prior to installing them on the roof of the No 2 end.

05.01.2022 Yesterday, 8 September 2020 was Peter Rheinberger's last day with GMR. Since early 2010, Peter has almost single handedly progressed the reconstruction of our rail motor to the condition it is now in where the coachwork is completed and the electical and control systems are now well advanced. Peter is moving elsewhere in the state and we wish him all the very best.

03.01.2022 Work is steadily progressing on the drivers controls in both cabs of the rail motor as per the attached photos. Other coachwork is also still progressing.

02.01.2022 Since the crew returned from the Xmas/New Year break work has picked up on the rail motor with the framing and internal water tanks installed. Electrical work continues on the control stands and the fresh water stand has been fitted in the guards compartment.

02.01.2022 Last year GMR received a Commonwealth Volunteers grant and purchased a petrol powered impact wrench. This tool has proved invaluable in replacing sleeper plate bolys and also installing dog screws as per the attached short video

01.01.2022 After many years inside the shed, the rail motor was out in the sun for a few hours yesterday before being relocated over the pit that was previously under 1919. It was a great sight.
