23.01.2022 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY Today is World Mental Health Day, and is a day for us to unite in our efforts to improve the mental health of people around the world. This year the focus is on suicide prevention, and is aiming to improve awareness of the significance of suicide as a global public health problem, improve knowledge of what can be done to prevent suicide, reduce the stigma associated with suicide and let people who are struggling know that they are not alone. Every 40 s...econds someone loses their life to suicide. That equates to almost 800,000 lives lost every year. Furthermore, for each suicide, there are more than 20 suicide attempts. Suicides and suicide attempts have a ripple effect that impacts on families, friends, colleagues, communities and societies. If you are struggling, take 40 seconds to start a conversation with someone you trust about how you are feeling. If you suspect someone you know is struggling, start a conversation with them about how theyre feeling. If you know someone who has lost a loved one to suicide, check in with them and ask them how they are doing. Always remember, its ok to not be ok. If you need someone to talk to, please make an appointment to discuss things with your GP, help is available.

15.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day. This is our national day of action dedicated to reminding everyone to ask, Are you OK? and to remember every day of the year to support people who may be struggling with lifes ups and downs. Have you got a niggling feeling that someone you know or care about it isnt behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or theyre just not themselves. Trust your gut instinct and act on it. By starting a conversat...ion and commenting on the changes youve noticed, you could help your family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not ok, you can open a conversation to show them theyre supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are ok, that person will know youre someone who cares enough to ask. Always remember, its ok to not be ok. If you are struggling, or are concerned someone close to you is struggling, please make an appointment to discuss things with your GP, help is available. R U OK?
