24.01.2022 New semi permanent #electricfence constructed today to help with splitting this year's zone 2 paddock. Previously we've just run a temporary electric fence along our track when the cattle were there, but as we'll be coming back more frequently this growing season, we've made something a little more permanent to make our lives easier. This paddock has been spilt into four sections with electric reels and we'll move the cattle through each portion, then onto zone 3 or back into zone 1 when our priority zone is ready for grazing again. #holisticmanagement #grazingnaturally #cattlemanagement #soilhealth #grassmonitoring #home #sthburnett

23.01.2022 Getting zone 3 ready for the herd in a few days. This zone is three paddocks along the front of our farm, but the first paddock tends to be grazed unevenly so we're splitting it in three sections with #electricfences and an extra watering point. This is to encourage the herd to spend more time in the parts of the paddock that we want them to. #grazingnaturally #holisticmanagement #multispeciesgrazing #regenerativeagriculture #grassmonitoring #soilhealth #home #sthburnett

23.01.2022 Where would we be without them #everyfamilyneedsafarmer

21.01.2022 Moved the herd into the second section of zone 2 this morning. All happy #holisticmanagement #grazingnaturally #multispeciesgrazing #soilhealth #grassmonitoring #home #sthburnett

13.01.2022 Getting the last of the #roundbales off the paddock just in case the forecast of rain this week proves correct. These are going to our home place to be fed out on areas of the farm where we want the herd to congregate and get a bit more organic matter into the soil #soilhealth #soilcarbon #rehabilitation #multispeciesgrazing #holisticmanagement #home #sthburnett

13.01.2022 Best way to start a delivery day

10.01.2022 So this happened on Friday afternoon Many thanks to David and Sarah at Sunshine Coast Isuzu who helped with the purchase of our new hay truck, Robert and the team at #paulgerengineering who constructed and fitted our custom tray and AgForce Queensland for their partnership with Isuzu that meant we received a very generous discount on our purchase. Getting to this point has been a long road but we finally made it Bring on summer - we've now got aircon #newhaytruck #haydelivery #SunshineCoast

07.01.2022 Heading off on our maiden voyage #newtruckfeels #haydelivery #isuzu #SunshineCoast

06.01.2022 Our herd is currently grazing our #sabbath paddock but we're using some round bales of a barley/lucerne mix to #spikefeed (mostly because we have it) on some bare areas in the paddock. Good for the cows and for the ground #cattlemanagement #soilhealth #soilrehabilitation #cattlenutrition #holisticmanagement #grazingnaturally #home #sthburnett

05.01.2022 Moved our cattle into the next section of this year's priority zone which is a paddock that has some scalded areas. We've noticed that where dung from last year's grazing is on these areas, there are small shoots showing up after the October rain. To encourage the cattle to spend time on these scalded areas (and hopefully deposit lots of organic matter) we've rolled out some round bales of barley hay on these areas. Last summer we tried some zai pits but they haven't worked very well. May try again but deeper and with more mulch. Will see how it goes and keep you all updated #holisticmanagement #grazingnaturally #multispeciesgrazing #soilhealth #soilrehabilitation #home #sthburnett

05.01.2022 After 87.5mm in the last 10 days of October we've declared our growing season open Our priority zone this year is made up of four separate paddocks that are quite different to one another so we've decided to go with three indicator cans to get a more complete picture of when to return. One of these paddocks has scalded areas where a sodic sub-soil has been exposed and it's really hard to get anything to grow on them. It was promising to see that manure from last season is creating little islands of young grass. Our plan is to also put out some round bales of very seedy barley hay on these areas to get more activity on these spots. #holisticmanagement #grazingnaturally #multispeciesgrazing #regenerativeagriculture #soilhealth #home #sthburnett

04.01.2022 Closed season grazing - this paddock was sabbathed and not grazed at all last growing season and now it's time to work through it with #electricfencing and use density to knock down the older grass that the cattle haven't eaten so it's ready to take off in the new growing season. The cattle also have a molasses/urea lick while doing this Impressed with the biodiversity in this paddock #cattlemanagement #holisticmanagement #grazingnaturally #highdensitygrazing #home #sthburnett
