25.01.2022 Thank you to Fiona Mitchell for sharing this

25.01.2022 Glenthompson now officially has 1 active case of COVID-19

24.01.2022 Our 2020 Xmas Raffle is now available. This year we have 2 hampers which can be viewed at MJ's Roadhouse Tickets are available there: $2 each or 3 tickets for $5. Winners will be drawn on Monday 21st December.

24.01.2022 We are hoping it won't be too much longer before we can re-open the History Centre. We are currently trying to secure funding to get the new floor coverings down but this is no easy thing around here. Our apologies to anyone who is waiting on a research request. With everything packed up, it is somewhat difficult to access various bits of our collections. We have not forgotten you and we are slowly trying to get those requests fulfilled.

24.01.2022 Welcome to 2021 everyone. Just a heads up that the GLEN NEWS newsletter will recommence next week. Do you have any birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations or achievements you would like to share, maybe you wish to sell some excess items or rent out a room or house, (all free, only business ads are charged), or maybe you have a joke, recipe or article you would like to contribute. We need your items by end of the day on Monday 25th either hardcopy in the newsletter box on top of the computers in MJ's Roadhouse or via email to: [email protected] We are also looking for people who may have an hour or so once or twice a school term to assist in collating our newsletter to get it out to everyone. We usually pair people up and train. If you think you might like to assist, contact: Tracey 0438 774 215.

24.01.2022 This is exciting news for the young lady who made these 6 short documentaries and for the ladies who participated. One of whom is my own mother. She can be seen 2nd from the right in the photo of the 6 WRAAF women in line.

23.01.2022 Truly a military event to remember. https://iancoate.com/

23.01.2022 Well the sub-floor repairs are complete and the new flooring is down. BUT contrary to first checks, the roof has a leak as can been seen by the small wet patch on the floor near the chimney. Still, all in all it's coming along. The walls will take a bit of time to clean off, re-render and allow a few weeks to set before any further work can be done.

22.01.2022 A graveside service for Freda McFarlane is to be held at Glenthompson at 2:30pm this Wednesday, 3 February, to be followed at the Memorial Hall.

19.01.2022 Finally, some positive news on the History Centre. Work has started today on the new floor coverings. A good quality industrial vinyl planking which should see us thru the next 15 yrs or more, while also improving the look of the centre and being easy to clean and maintain. It will take a few days for it all to be laid then we can begin to look at moving our collections back in.

10.01.2022 Hopefully whoever did this will be caught and prosecuted to the fullest. We are only a tiny rural town and this was one of our only attractions.

10.01.2022 I found this on a site called "Starts at 60" and thought it so relevant to share here. ‘Reminiscing: The smells and sounds of my childhood’ Heather Harold Sep 20, 2019...Continue reading

10.01.2022 Taken from the "Memories from Mr Ernest Rupert Conboy 1897 - 1967" The celebrations were talked about for a long time and the citizens of Glenthompson really got down to business in 1959 forming a Back To Glenthompson committee. This gathering to be held on the long weekend in March 1960. It was to commence with a Welcome Ball on the Friday night. The Saturday would be a Back To School during the morning with a cricket match in the afternoon or go visiting then a concert a...Continue reading

09.01.2022 Just wondering if anyone can help in naming any of the people in the photo. It was sent to me by a friend who is researching the history of football in the district. It is an U 17 inter league team from 1965. He believes there are 4 players from Glenthompson in the team. My brother Michael was able to identify Peter Wyatt (front row, 5th from left ). Thanks, Helen Robertson

08.01.2022 Can anyone identify anyone from this photo? This is part of our photo collection but is clearly not here in Glenthompson, so we assume there are 1 or more Glenthompson gentlemen in the photo. (?c. 1960's)

08.01.2022 Another photo of the St Thomas' Catholic church float courtesy of Helen Robertson. Pat and Judy Annett (I think) on the ends, myself (Helen Schack), two Finnegan boys and I think the other girl was Helen Hanscombe. (names from Helen Robertson)

08.01.2022 We would like to thank everyone who has helped us so far with identifying people in our recent album - Centenary Celebrations (11-14th March 1960). It is a great conversation starter for many of you and a terrific assistance to us here at the Glen History Group. Please be sure to like our page not just our posts and feel free to share with others and also invite them to like our page too. Cheers.

08.01.2022 I think it may have changed just a bit these days

07.01.2022 Although we are not actually back up and open to the public just yet, it was terrific to be able to assist a lovely lady and her husband over the weekend. They had come from NSW to stand where her ancestor had worked at the train station and then we went around to the cemetery and located yet another of her ancestors. She was thrilled and will endeavour to share some of this family history with us here at the Glen History Centre. We have commenced returning our collecti...on to the centre but still have a bit of work ahead to get everything back out on display so we can re-open to the public. Thank you to everyone for their patience. We are only a very small band of volunteers trying our best to get things happening as quickly as we can. See more

06.01.2022 And it begins................ first the floors were pulled up, the damage was extensive, only one drainage pipe for the whole building, and the walls are beginning to sag. So it may be a bigger job than Victrack anticipated and may take longer than first thought. For anyone who was curious about the two 'buildings' next to the history centre......... the round one was a communications hub with the strange item on top being a heat vent and the toilet sized one was not in fact a toilet, but a phone booth, probably for use by the track inspection teams.

06.01.2022 Have you been around to see the towns decorated houses yet? Great to see so many homes celebrating the Xmas spirit. Don't forget to collect a voting form from the roadhouse and vote on the 4 competition houses before Saturday. Competition winners to be drawn by independent 3rd party on Sunday.

06.01.2022 Entry forms will be available by the end of next week

05.01.2022 I thought some of you might like the old recipes in this book from 1961

03.01.2022 We all need a little bit of a laugh these days
