23.01.2022 Congratulations to our Aviation students. Their work was the first ever high school students to be featured in the University of New South Wales Aviation Outreach publication. The student’s work was featured for its inquisitive research into the Black Hole approach phenomena experienced by pilots approaching runways at night.

22.01.2022 The Glenunga International High School Percussion Ensemble recently competed in the tuned percussion section of the SA School Band and Orchestra Festival. The adjudicator for this section was John Morrison, brother of James Morrison and is very successful musician in his own right, who has performed extensively throughout Australia and the world. He was very impressed by our group’s performance and commented:... Strong and confident playing from everyone. Congratulations - a very musical performance from a very skilled ensemble. Most enjoyable The ensemble was awarded a silver medal for their performance and was the only public school to take part in the competition. The ensemble will be performing at the Showcase concert on Wednesday evening playing their version of Smoke on the Water, which Mr Morrison was particularly impressed with commenting: A great arrangement which was well suited to the ensemble. Exceptional work from the drum set laying down a strong and confident time feel. High level of listening between the players with all parts tightly locked together I would like take this opportunity to thank all the members of the group for their commitment and hard work throughout the year and Phoebe for her great camera work. 16.01.2022 At the end of last term, Ms Dent and Ms Becker’s Year 9 Specialist Drama students were treated to a workshop with award winning freelance theatrical designer, Jonathon Oxlade, with a particular focus on set design. Jonathon explored the design process he undertakes with students and then led them through a creative task where students made their own mini box sets and explored the use of shape, line and lighting to make meaningful settings for their theatrical work. Students were inspired to carry their learning into the design of their own children’s theatre group productions which will culminate in Term 4 for the Glenunga community.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to the GIHS SADA Senior B Debating Team for winning their Grand Final Debate. Team members Syme, Tessa, David and Anika, with team coach Charlie, headed up against St Peters College. Both teams had been undefeated throughout the debating season, showcasing a very high-quality debate at the Sir Samuel Way Court. Despite a competitive debate, the Glenunga team emerged victorious. Congratulations also to team captain Syme for winning the Peter Barry Medal for Best Speaker on the day. We would also like to commend the GIHS SADA Senior A Debating team- Georgia, Sam, Anannya and Colette for remaining undefeated this season through to the Semi-Final. Well done to both of the teams for their dedication across the season, delivering the best results that Glenunga has ever seen in the SADA Debating league.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to our Year 12 Drama students and Ms Fisher on their recent entertaining production of ‘Hating Alison Ashley’ by Robin Klein. The class performed two matinees to Drama students and a socially distanced evening for parents and close friends with a warm positive audience response. This light-hearted comedy reminded the audience to be true to who you are and that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
