24.01.2022 Today is the International Day of Older Persons 2020. This year we’ve seen the emergence of COVID-19, which has caused an upheaval across the planet. This quote from UN Secretary-General António Guterres sums it up well: The world marks the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Older Persons as we reckon with the disproportionate and severe impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has wrought on older persons around the world not only on their health, but on their rights ...and well-being. Let’s remember the tremendous importance of recognising older persons’ contributions to their own health and the roles they play in the preparedness and response phases of pandemics.
21.01.2022 We are very proud to team up with HESTA to bring you this story for Dementia Action Week. 20.01.2022 This is Janice. :) She has been coming to Bisdee Community Centre for about seven years now, and said she was delighted when the centre re-opened after COVID-19 restrictions eased in July. "I was so happy to hear it was open again. There's only so much I can do at home." Janice reckons going on the bus excursions is her favourite activity.... "I like just getting out and about. I like going to the beach. Even if it's raining, it's good to get out." Here she is pictured at Bisdee with another centre member, Jenny. If you are keen to find out more about our community centre activities, please call our team on: (03) 6277 8820 or check out our website: www.glenview.org.au/community-centre/

18.01.2022 Today is R U OK? Day, when we’re reminded to check in with the people in our lives who may be struggling with life’s ups and downs. This year’s message is: There’s more to say after R U OK? 2020 has been a challenging year for everyone and this makes it even more important to stay connected and to try to support those around us. If you feel like something’s not quite right with someone you know you notice a change in what they’re saying or doing - take the time to ask them,... Are you OK? If someone says they’re not OK, make time to listen, encourage action and check in. Learn what to say at www.ruok.org.au
17.01.2022 On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, when the guns fell silent, we will remember. #remember #RemembranceDay #oneminutesilence
17.01.2022 Did you know this week is Generational Awareness Week? Hosted by Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA), the Aged Care Sector Generational Awareness Week is all about celebrating and recognising the age diversity in our workplaces. Stats from ACSA show that 50% of aged care services staff will retire in the next few years, and 45% of people working in the sector are now millennials. With multiple generations working side by side in our organisation, it’s important to ackn...owledge each generation and celebrate their uniqueness. Here are a few of our staff members representing the generations we have working at Glenview. We are incredibly lucky to have such a wide range of experiences and backgrounds and we aim to benefit from the ability to leverage the strengths of each generation. #agedcare #celebrate #diversity See more

14.01.2022 Here at Glenview, over the past few months we’ve been taking steps to be COVID-Ready. For us, this includes refreshing our COVID-19 safety plan which details our policies and procedures for physical distancing and infection control, as well as a workforce plan in the event of an outbreak. Additionally, all of our employees continue to undertake COVID-19 training, delivered by the Department of Health. If you are worried or concerned about a loved one, please make contact with us so we can provide you with information and updates.
13.01.2022 Last week we hosted a tour of Korongee for Kristie Johnston, Glenorchy City Council Mayor, along with several aldermen of the Glenorchy City Council. Lots of great questions were asked and we look forward to developing partnerships with the council as Korongee Village continues to grow. Glenorchy City Council #Korongee #dementiacare
12.01.2022 The Tasmanian border is now open again to most other states and here at Glenview, it’s been a big week across our two sites as we roll out our ramped up visitor screening procedures, as advised by Public Health. Our Activities team have stepped back into their role to meet and greet visitors as they enter the site, to ensure they’ve completed their infection control practices and to assist them in using our digital sign-in system. We’re keen to continue to help residents an...d families to stay connected, and we’re doing all we can to ensure we do it in a way which keeps everyone safe. Read more about our digital sign-in processes in this article in Inside Ageing. #technology #innovation #COVID

09.01.2022 Here are some photos from our Open Day at Korongee for staff as well as residents from our Windsor Street residential facility and neighbours. The residents clearly enjoyed a tour with Glenview CEO Lucy O'Flaherty on board one of the Korongee people movers! Also included are photos from the official opening of the village yesterday by Her Excellency the Honourable Kate Warner AC. The purpose-built village is based on a small house model design and utilises a tailored matchi...ng process for house selection of new residents. This tailoring will address the challenges of institutional care and lead to increased social engagement opportunities and enhanced wellbeing for residents. We're proud to have HESTA involved with an investment of $19 million into the project through their Social Impact Investment Trust, managed by Social Ventures Australia. #Korongee #dementiacare #agedcare

06.01.2022 Well done Dementia Tas!!
06.01.2022 During these changed times, it has been wonderful to see schools and community organisations come up with innovative ways in which to engage with residents. Instead of coming here for a live performance, which is on hold for now, choir members from Northern Christian School decided to produce a video of them singing Waltzing Matilda and the Song of Australia. Residents enjoyed viewing their concert on the screen and clapped heartily at the end. Big thank you to the choir at Northern Christian School for your stellar performance and we look forward to welcoming you back soon!

03.01.2022 This is Peter, one of our home care clients, pictured alongside our home care support worker Mel. Peter has led an interesting life working overseas in America and the UK, teaching Auslan for 33 years and acting as president of the Tasmanian Deaf Society for 10 years, amongst other achievements. He says that he is very impressed with Mel’s degree of caring.... Mel has a lot of respect for old people and she encourages me to do things, to get things done, he said. Her attitude has always been excellent, even from the start when we first met. She always has a smile on her face. Mel says she was a bit nervous about communication with Peter at first, due to his deafness, but says that he can lip read really well and he has taught her some sign language. Sometimes I try to act things out and we have a bit of fun and we laugh lots, she said. He is always smiling, and happy and grateful. It makes you feel like you’ve done a great job and that you’re appreciated. Mel comes to Peter’s house two times a week and aside from house cleaning, she also takes him to the chemist and to appointments. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, while he was in self-isolation, Mel helped to support Peter with his shopping so that he didn’t have to leave his home. To find out more about our in-home care services, give our team a call on (03) 6277 8800. #homecare #agedcare #gratitude
03.01.2022 Hear from the director of the Wicking Dementia Centre, James Vickers, and Glenview CEO Lucy O'Flaherty talk about how dementia design elements and person-centred care can have a big impact on the lives of the residents who call the village home.
03.01.2022 If you ask Maisie what she thought of our virtual community centre program which we had running while the centre was closed earlier this year due to COVID-19, you’ll hear the passion in her voice. I can’t stress enough how much enjoyment I got out of it! she says. It was just nice to know that I could use the technology. That I had kept up to date with it. You can spot Maisie in the bottom right hand corner of the computer screen in the image, where she was able to stay c...onnected with other community centre participants. Our virtual program involved running live video sessions using Zoom, and our team hosted activities such as quizzes, word games, crafts and social chats. My family was very pleased that I took part in it, Maisie said. At that particular time, it was very valuable. I saw people that I hadn’t seen for a while who were regulars there. Everyone was smiling and having a laugh. It was a really good experience.
01.01.2022 We recently said good-bye to three of our amazing volunteers, who between them have dedicated an impressive 31 years of volunteering with Glenview! Glenview CEO Lucy O’Flaherty joined our volunteer coordinator and a group of volunteers for a dinner out at the York Hotel to celebrate their wonderful commitment to our community. Huge thank you goes out to Trish, Helen and Christine!!
