25.01.2022 | COVID-19 | Revised Restrictions: Metropolitan Melbourne (Step 3) & Regional Victoria (Step 3A) ... UPDATE: Revised 30th October, 2020. Update from Bowls Victoria This advice is current as of, 30th October 2020, and affects clubs in both Metro Melbourne and Regional Victoria. There are 3 key areas of change: MASKS Masks are now mandatory, and all conflicting information has been corrected. Further detail can be found in the Return to Play Guidelines. ACCESS TO CLUBHOUSES We have received clarification that access to clubhouses is permitted where there is a bar, café or restaurant. Clubs which only have a clubhouse, with no hospitality offering, are only permitted to open toilets and changerooms. PLAYER NUMBERS & GREENS Groups of up to 10 people are permitted outdoors on greens, but groups must now be 10m apart. This rule does not apply to pennant, pennant practice or other state events. Information on this change can be found in the sections titled Number of Players and Types of Competitions. We understand that the ongoing changes will be causing frustration, however clubs should be prepared that there will be more to come, and quite likely prior to the next round of major changes due to be announced on the 8th of November. Glen Waverley Bowls Club is committed to providing a COVID safe environment.

On the greens a mask is optional but I recommend you wear one to keep your fellow bowlers safe. This afternoon will be first come first to play but make sure the limit to 10 players is not exceeded. Combined booking/tracing sheets will be available later today. Enjoy your bowling get into the groove pennant will commence soon I hope. Stay safe.
23.01.2022 Glen Waverley Bowls Club is open for members to engage in social bowls on Tuesday and Saturday. You must bring your own bowls, record your name on the attendance sheet, use the hand sanitiser available at each rink and at the entrances, ensure minimal handling of the jack and mat, disinfect both following the game. The club rooms are not open for use, only bathroom facilities. Rinks are socially distanced at a minimum or 1.5 metres. Ensure that you follow the rules to keep yourself and your fellow bowlers safe.
23.01.2022 Bowls Victoria is pleased to advise that clubs can re-open your outdoor greens for up to 10 people (with an additional 10 allowed where 100m distance can be provided between groups of 10), for a maximum of 20 patrons in total (outdoor venues only). Clubhouses are still to remain closed. The 1.5m social distancing restriction must be adhered to between all patrons at all times. Although masks are not mandatory when playing Community Sport, Bowls Victoria still recommends that ...masks be worn where you can, and they should be worn between play, when not on the green, and when using toilet facilities, etc. In summary, Mondays’s easing of restrictions means the following for clubs in Metropolitan Melbourne: Bowls can commence with 10 persons per club. Clubhouses are not open, except for toilet facilities. Greens & surrounds maintenance can occur by paid greenkeepers and volunteers. Although this first small step towards re-opening Metro clubs may not be what everyone was hoping for, we do anticipate gaining approval for the 10-person limit set for Metropolitan clubs to be increased on or before November 1st 2020, to what currently applies for Regional clubs. Please take this news as positive, and use common sense to protect yourself and those around you. Glen Waverley will announce our COVID safe plan for return to bowls after consulting Monash Council. Details on attendance, sign in and which greens are operational will be circulated soon.
22.01.2022 Following yesterday’s announcement from Daniel Andrews, stage three restrictions will be reintroduced from 11:59pm today, Wednesday 8th July and continue for six weeks to 11:59pm Wednesday, 19 August to help reduce the risk of further transmissions. Under the restrictions imposed by State Government pavilions are to be temporarily closed to members and external users by 11:59pm tonight and by the end of the week (no access to them as of this Friday, 10th July) to club committ...ee members/ personal. This means pavilions cannot be used for meetings, gatherings or any other use during this closure. Glen Waverley Bowls Club rooms will not be accessible to members or non members for this period. At this time we are waiting on further advice from Bowls Victoria as to whether the restrictions imposed by the State Government allow for limited activities on the greens to still be conducted during this time. The general advice given so far would likely preclude this as "exercise outside is limited to yourself and 1 other person", with appropriate social distancing this could still allow for social bowls, but don't get your hopes up. As soon as advice is received from Monash Council or Bowls Victoria, I will update. In the mean time, stay safe, wash your hands, social distance, don't go out if you are unwell except to get tested if you have any symptoms. The bowls community is vulnerable protect yourself and your mates.

15.01.2022 Dear Member Clubs, We have received many enquiries around the use of masks when bowling. The advice from Sport & Recreation Victoria and Vicsport supports the current State Government guidelines, as follows: Clubs located in Metropolitan Melbourne, Mitchell Shire Council & City of Greater Geelong areas (or the Shires of Colac Otway, Golden Plains, Moorabool, Surf Coast and the Borough of Queenscliffe):... When leaving home for one of the four reasons, people 12 years and older must wear a face covering, unless an exemption applies. If you are doing strenuous physical exercise you do not need to wear a face covering but you must carry one with you. Strenuous exercise includes activities like jogging, running or cycling but not walking. Bowling is not considered to be 'strenuous physical exercise' and therefore a face covering is required. There are exemptions, the only ones that would apply to bowls are: A person who is affected by a relevant medical condition - including problems with their breathing, a serious skin condition on the face, a disability or a mental health condition. This also includes persons who are communicating with a person who is hearing impaired, where the ability to see the mouth is essential for communication. During emergencies When consuming food, drink, medication or when smoking/vaping. (although we would ask you not to unneccesarily eat and drink at the club)

10.01.2022 Bowls Victoria advises that Corporate and Barefoot Bowls is permitted for up to 32 people per green, but clubs must keep a record of each visitors’ phone number and what day/time they arrived and departed at the club to assist with contact tracing if required. Bowls Victoria recommends that these types of programs are held off until the middle of July when the next lifting of restrictions are predicted. Glen Waverley Bowls Club Looks forward to welcoming our community back to the club as soon as we have appropriate access to our facilities and are well prepared to meet the social distancing requirements. keep checking our page for updates

09.01.2022 COVID-19 Update Events Postponed Thursday June 25th 2020.... Bowls Victoria has made the tough decision to postpone all Metropolitan Pennant Divisional Finals scheduled for this weekend, next week and next month’s State Championships. We understand some will be disappointed and some will be relieved by this decision. Earlier in June, we surveyed participating clubs and as a result the decision was made to proceed with Divisional matches, however, given the rapidly changing situation, circumstances have now changed. We have also received concerns from Clubs, Members and their families regarding playing in hotspot areas and players from hotspot areas visiting other clubs. With increased cases of COVID-19 in hotspot areas across the last 48 hours, Bowls Victoria must consider player welfare and our duty of care for members playing in BV events. As a result, Midweek & Weekend Metropolitan Pennant Divisional Finals are postponed indefinitely. State Championships matches scheduled for July will also be postponed including State Championships (Singles, Pairs, Mixed Pairs, Triples and Fours), Over 60s Championships, Champions of Champions and Novice Singles. In the next fortnight, following the Bowls Victoria Board Meeting, we will advise on Division One and Premier Grand Finals (scheduled for the end of August). Clubs are still open, with Social Bowls and Practice/Roll Ups able to take place under our current State Government approved guidelines. refer to STAGE 3 > Club Guidelines We encourage you to visit your local club to keep connected and active. Kind Regards, The team at Bowls Victoria.
07.01.2022 BOWLS VICTORIA UPDATE 2020/21 Metropolitan Pennant Season Expected: November 2020 Alternative Option: January 2021... After originally stating an 18-round season will take place for this season’s Metropolitan Pennant Competition from September 26th, we wish to advise that due to the 2nd outbreak of COVID-19 in Victoria, the starting date will be postponed to later in 2020. The Metropolitan Pennant Season will now be scheduled to commence on Saturday November 7th (Weekend Pennant) and Tuesday November 10th (Midweek Pennant). Aside from Premier Division, the competition structures for the Midweek & Weekend Pennant seasons will now be 14 rounds across the home and away season, followed by a regular finals season, concluding in late March. Divisions will be comprised of 10 sections of 8 teams (5 sections of 8 teams for Division 1), minimising travel requirements for clubs. The Premier Division competition structure will be confirmed in late August. Promotion and relegation information will be released in our late September update. New Competitions (6-a-side & 7-a-side): After a positive response from the Metropolitan Pennant entries gathered in July, both the 6-a-side Spring Saturday Morning Competition and the Spring Thursday 7-a-side Competition will run this season. More information will be sent to clubs on the 7-a-side Competition soon. This competition will have no entry fee for the first two seasons (Spring & Summer). Future Pennant Information: We ask Clubs and players to be flexible for Season 20/21 as Bowls Victoria evaluates scenarios around returning to play Metropolitan Pennant. Bowls Victoria will need to be given permission from the Victorian State Government for the number of players to return to 32 per green due to COVID-19 restrictions. Alternative timeslots for play may be required for clubs that have more sides entered than green space available, given the level of COVID-19 restrictions that may continue to be in place. For planning purposes, Bowls Victoria will assess the likelihood of continuing with the schedule, and by the end of September will make a decision as to whether starting at a later date will be in the best interests of the health and safety of our Pennant playing members. At the end of September, if Bowls Victoria proceeds with the proposed dates, a provisional draw will be sent to clubs following the announcement. If health and safety is a concern for commencing Pennant in November, a later commencement date would involve a compacted season commencing on Saturday January 16th (Weekend Pennant) and Tuesday 19th January (Midweek Pennant), for as many weeks as possible, noting we have several plans in place should this occur.
05.01.2022 Bowls Victoria Proposed Pennant Dates: UPDATED: 2020/21 STATE EVENT & COMPETITION DATES BY SEAN O'KANE... Updated: Monday October 19th 2020. The following are proposed dates for returning to play, and are subject to further advice from the Victorian Government (Sport and Recreation Victoria) and Vicsport, as Bowls Victoria navigates through the recent lockdowns and outbreaks of COVID-19. These updates aim to ensure as much notice is given to clubs before re-commencing Bowls Competitions in Victoria, when it is safe to do so. Following the Premier’s recent announcements and the advice given to Bowls Victoria Clubs on August 14, Bowls Victoria provides the following update in relation to Events and Competitions for the 2020/2021 Bowls Season. Please keep up to date with further announcements on the Bowls Victoria Website. 2020/21 Metropolitan Pennant Season (revised dates) Commencement Dates: Thursday 26th November 2020 (Thursday 7-a-side) Saturday 28th November 2020 (Weekend Pennant) Tuesday 1st December 2020 (Midweek Pennant) After receiving up to date advice from the Victorian Government on Sunday and Monday, a decision has been made to delay the Pennant season by 3 weeks, aiming to commence the new Thursday 7-a-side Competition on Thursday November 26th, Metropolitan Weekend Pennant on Saturday November 28th and Metropolitan Midweek Pennant on Tuesday December 1st. In addition to health and safety, the delay in the commencement of the season provides clubs the opportunity to plan and assess their member’s willingness to return to their bowling clubs as restrictions in Metropolitan Melbourne begin to ease over the coming weeks. COVID protocols must be adhered to by all clubs, which will continue to be updated by Bowls Victoria as part of the Return to Play Guidelines.
05.01.2022 Glen Waverley Bowls Club is looking magnificent at the moment, thanks to our hard working grounds staff and volunteer gardeners. Unfortunately we are unable to share our facilities with the general public at this time due to the COVID 19 restrictions. The club room is currently unavailable and access to shared equipment is limited to jacks and mats, bowlers must provide their own bowls. In preparation for reopening, the facilities have undergone a thorough clean, we have inst...alled Sanitiser Stations, disinfection baths for mats and jacks, and observe appropriate social distancing. Bowls Victoria has advised that Social or Barefoot bowls is not expected to return until mid July. I note the Premiers message today on the reduction in the numbers of people allowed at both indoor and outdoor social gatherings due to the spike in COVID cases and expect that this will prompt another advise from our governing body. We look forward to welcoming the community back to the club as soon as possible and will keep you updated on a return date. See more

04.01.2022 A beautiful day to welcome our Pennant bowlers back to GWBC. Please check in when you arrive, sanitise your hands, follow the COVID safe rules and observe the directions of the COVID Marshal. Remember to social distance yourselves, not your bowls, they should be as close to the jack as possible, some of us clearly in need of practice, March was a long time ago.
04.01.2022 UPDATE FROM BOWLS VICTORIA Clubs located in Metropolitan Melbourne > STEP 3 ... Bowls Victoria is pleased to advise that from 11.59pm on 27th October restrictions have eased to allow outdoor non-contact sport to resume, limited to the minimum number of people required for the activity (e.g. players, necessary coaches and umpires). People must keep 1.5m apart at all times. This applies to outdoor greens only (covered greens with less than 50% walls are considered outdoor). For example: This means that if your club has 2 x pennant teams of 16 players, then you can conduct bowls with 64 players at the venue (2 x 16 = 32 players from the Home team, and 32 from the Away team). Clubs should consider how breaks will be managed given restrictions to clubhouse entry and may elect not to have a break. Additionally, staggered starting times should be considered to ease congestion of foot traffic. There are no requirements on minimum space between rinks but clubs must set up their venue to ensure players can keep 1.5m apart at all times, the bank and surrounds can be used to assist this. The 1.5m social distancing restriction must be adhered to between all patrons at all times. Glen Waverley Bowls Club will advise our members of our COVID safe plan for play and conditions of use of greens and clubhouse via email newsletter and the facebook page. Restrictions on use of the clubhouse will see us utilising our outside seating and dining spaces as we accommodate the COVID space rules. Hope to see you all back at bowls soon.
