Dr. Graham Oppy was voted into the exclusive club at our 61st Annual General Meeting for season 2020/21. Graham’s stats are below: - Club number: 1079 - Junior number: - Senior number: 570 - Junior Debut: - Senior Debut: 09/10 SENIOR STATS - 132 Senior Games & 9 Veteran Games - 2549 Senior Runs & 14 Veteran Runs - Highest score of 95 with an Average of 23.34 - 93 Senior Wickets & 5 Veteran Wickets - Best Bowling of 5/42 with an Average of 24.48 - 33 catches GENERAL STATS - Secretary 2009/10-Current - 4th XI Captain 2010/11 (co-captain), 2011/12-2013/2014 - 3rd XI Captain 2014/15-2016/17 - 3rd XI VC 2017/18 - U13’s Coach, Scorer, Umpire, Premiership Coach 2005/06 - 4th XI Batting Average & Bowling Average winner 2012/13 Graham came to the club in 2005/06. Normally if you play for the club you bring your kids to the club and play cricket with them, it was Gilbert Oppy his son, who brought Graham to the club. The following year his 2 other boys, Alfie and Cal came to the club. It wasn’t until 2009/10 that he played his 1st senior game, and in the same year played alongside Cal and Alfie! Graham never complained when he was 3rd and 4th XI captain, always drawing the short stick where he would be looking all Friday Night and Saturday morning to find players to play in the team and sometimes only playing with 10. It is great to have someone like Graham on the committee with his eagerness to try and improve, develop and make the Cougars strong in all areas, and a club to be at whilst being successful! There are 2 things Graham needs to check off his cricket bucket list, 1 a Premiership, the closest he has gotten is a defeat in the veterans GF last season, and being involved in Gilberts U13 Premiership, and a ton, his highest score being 95! On behalf of the committee, life members, current and former players as well as the wider Glen Waverley Cougars community we congratulate Graham on this amazing achievement and joining 21 other Cougars legends in this illustrious club.

08.01.2022 This week in game milestones we have 3 players playing great achievements, but not as good as the Life Member who is going to play club game 350 this week, being named in the 2’s to take on NHBP at Columbia Park! Warren Pagey Page, or better known as PPPAAGGGEEEEEYYYYYY, Which he still didn’t hear! Warren Page stats:... Junior Playing Number: 132 Debut 1976/77 u12s Senior Playing Number: 195 Senior Debut 1983/84 Club Number 229 267 Senior Games 79 Junior Games 3 Veteran Games Junior Runs 1047 Senior Runs - 6917 Veteran Runs - 74 Combined Runs - 8037 Junior Wickets - 50 Senior Wickets - 129 Veteran Wickets - 1 Combined Wickets 180 Warren is the clubs leading run scorer with 8037, he over took the great Don Bienvenu last season as most runs scored for the club, but still trails Don but about 800 runs for Senior Runs scored, and if he has a decent season for the rest of this season he may knock them off after Christmas! He has gone out for 96 this season and out in the 90s 3 times in one year a few years ago, would be chasing his good friend Wayne Jewell for most 100s for the club if he could have gone on with them! Until last year Warren and Wayne held the record for highest 1st Wicket Partnership which was held for nearly 20 years! Warren was inducted into the Life Member Fraternity in 2014 as our 17th Immortal at the club! To add to his playing stats, he has been: Captain in all grades throughout his junior career, Junior Coach (Who coached Andrew Wright), he has won batting averages and a club championship in 2006/07 season, and even has best bowling figures of 7/46, he has also won a few premierships to go along with that! A big congratulations goes out to Pagey, one of the nicest blokes you will meet at any club, always has time to talk to you and introduces himself to make everyone feel welcome, this also the same for his wife and kids when they are at the club regularly! Congratulations Warren, here is to another 350!

03.01.2022 With Life Member and Club Legend David Smith bringing up his 300th game for the Cougars on the weekend in our Veterans XI, he received this very special message all the way from Japan... For those playing along at home, Smitty starred on Sunday with 43* and 3/13 in the 6 wicket win over Ivanhoe. We’ll leave Bruce to talk about Smitty’s illustrious career in the green and gold! ... A huge thanks to Haydn Thompson who tee’d up the shoutout from Bruce! We love your work H!

03.01.2022 Today marks the day David Smith makes his 300th appearance in the green and gold at the home of cricket, in the Veterans Game vs Ivanhoe which starts at 1pm! For those who don’t know who David Smitty Smith is, below is a quick rundown of his cougar stats: David Smith Stats: ... Club Number: 259, Senior playing number 214, Junior Playing number 154 Junior Debut: 1977/78 Under 12s Senior Debut: 1984/85 65 Junior Games, 226 Senior Games, 8 Veteran Games = 299 Combined Games 411 Junior Runs, 3311 Senior Runs, 146 Veteran runs = 3868 Combined Runs 15 Junior Wickets, 241 Senior Wickets, 2 Veteran Wickets = 258 Combined Wickets Bowling Avg Winner Batting Avg Winner 2nd XI and 3rd XI Captain and VC David was the mastermind behind our social events, he was the first social co-ordinator of the club after getting the idea from his local footy club he played for! Christmas Parties and end of season trips was his forte. A few good Melbourne Cup events and presentation nights worked well for him too. David was inducted into The Cougar Life Membership fraternity in 1995, becoming the 8th immortal in now the current 21 man group! Today at The Den he celebrates his 300th Game with about 9 of his mates he played junior and early senior cricket with, with a possibility of a 10th, with Shane MacGregor naming a Special Guest Player for today, here is thinking it is another of his close mates! He also celebrates his 300th Game the same way he celebrated his 200th game, being named Captain for the day! If you don’t have much to do today please come down and celebrate the day with Smitty, and come watch some cricket, Veterans games are always a good day out!
