21.01.2022 Shortlisted to Top Arts!! We are very excited to announce that Beth Albrecht’s acrylic painting on canvas from Unit 3/4 Studio Art has been shortlisted for Top Arts 2021!! "My final artwork, The Waiting Room, aims to explore the concept of the ‘liminal lifestyle’; living life in a way that where every moment is focused on having to move from one thing to another. By depicting a woman and her surrounding furniture suspended in a state of falling, I hope to create the impression of a lack of control as she is unable to orientate herself within the commotion."

21.01.2022 NAIDOC Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and recognises the contributions made by Indigenous Australians. 04.01.2022 Our Fundraising and Community Service Committee have made a giving tree opposite the Middle School Office. We are looking for donations of non-perishable food, gifts, toiletries etc to support people in need in our community. Please see attached a list of item ideas (anything donated of value, ie gift cards please give to Ms Jenes in the Art Dept to be safely locked away).... Our Giving tree will be taking donations until Thurs Dec 17th (last day of School) Christmas can be a wonderful time, but when a tragedy or crisis hits it can be terribly hard. Children, people struggling alone and families battling to keep food on the table are the hardest hit. This Christmas, we want to give hope to Australians battling tough times. Your donation means that the Salvation Army can offer shelter to people with nowhere to sleep, gifts for kids, who would otherwise get none, hampers for people struggling to afford basic meals, and support for those struck by disaster. Every Christmas, The Salvation Army provides around 160,000 meals and over 64,000 hampers and vouchers to individuals and families in need. As COVID-19 continues to impact individuals, families and communities across the country, your support now is more important than ever. By donating food or gifts, you can help us make sure we leave no one in need this festive season.

04.01.2022 2021 'AFL Unity Cup' Carnival - GWSC GIANTS Representative Teams The 2021 'AFL Unity Cup' was held on Saturday the 27th of March, with nineteen of our GWSC GIANTS Multicultural AFL Teams taking the field at Ransford Oval in Parkville. We had 229 students play in the AFL Unity Cup Carnival this year, alongside 31 GWSC staff members acting as coaches and support staff. We were again the largest AFL Unity Cup hub in the program, with students from many different cultural and lin...guistic backgrounds coming together to celebrate diversity whilst having a kick of the Sherrin! In addition to competing in games of AFL 9’s against fellow multicultural teams, our GWSC GIANTS also had the opportunity to engage with exciting activations and education programs run by the TAC and AFP. A highlight for many of our players and coaches were the free food vans, which provided nutritious meals to all in attendance throughout the day. Our players also received a range of AFL-themed give-aways from the AFL and their associated sponsors, with many GWSC GIANTS walking away at the end of the day with a bag full of footy freebies to share with their family and friends! There were many hard-fought matches played throughout the day, which culminated in some fantastic finals to decide the deserving winners of the AFL Unity Cup trophies. Our U14 Boys Team finished in third position, just going down by 5 points in the Semi-Finals. Our U16 Boys Team played in the most exciting AFL Unity Cup Grand Final in memory, narrowly going down by a couple of goals. Our U14 Girls team led from the front all day and played an exciting brand of AFL 9’s to take out the U14 Girls Division of the AFL Unity Cup! Our U16 Girls team then backed this up with a dominant display of rapid-fire handballs and precision kicking to take out the U16 Girls Division Premiership! Kudos to all of our Premiership winning players and to all of our GWSC GIANTS teams as well, who competed valiantly throughout the carnival. We would like to send a GIANT thank-you to the AFL and TAC for organising and running this event, greatly appreciated. Additionally, we would also like to acknowledge the time and incredible efforts of our 31 GWSC staff, who kindly volunteered to help support our program and Unity Cupper’s. #STAND-TALL-GWSC-GIANTS!!!! Yours in footy, Mr Mark Robinson
