25.01.2022 This week our team have been on the lookout for Mahogany Gliders at our property Ant Plant Reserve in Far North Queensland. Unfortunately Mahogany Gliders have ...become an endangered species due to habitat loss over time and changes to fire regimes. So far our wildlife cameras have captured a Sugar Glider and we’re hopeful to see a Mahogany Glider soon. We are in the process of creating a Nature Refuge at Ant Plant Reserve to provide these precious species with a forever home! Wish us luck. We’ll keep you posted! #HabitatProtection #QTFN
25.01.2022 Some science confirming what diligent kangaroo observers know about the extirpation of their own urban-edge Eastern Grey Kangaroos. This study [Brunton 2018] f...ound: EGK populations have declined in abundance in SE Queensland region since 2000 There is evidence some areas have suffered local #extinctions Vehicles were the major cause At one study site: From 2010 to 2016 the minimum number of kangaroos known to be alive decreased from 84 to 16 (72%) From 2014-2016 the maximum number of adults declined from 23 to 15 Vehicle collisions killing 33-38% of the total number of #kangaroos known to be alive in each year. We know this is happening around Bathurst and on Mount Panorama as edge habitats continue to be developed and traffic increases.
