24.01.2022 If youre looking for some inspiration for an annual report thats a bit different, take a look at these stand-out examples from Column Five Media in California. They titled their report, Well done.

23.01.2022 One of the up sides of the economy being slower than normal is you can get to the large tasks you rarely have time for, like rebranding or freshening up your artwork and image. Heres an excellent quick overview from US marketing firm, Hinge, on how to approach it: hingemarketing.com//rebranding_strategies_a_step_by_step_a Or if youd like to dive in deeper, check out the excellent Truth. Growth. Repeat. by Mike Edmonds, co-founder of Perths award-winning Meerkats ad agency. This link takes you to the free downloads of the books worksheets.

23.01.2022 Heres an interesting article on the way languages name colours. In researching their paper, Phylogenetic approach to the evolution of colour term systems, Hannie Haynie and Claire Bowern found that all languages begin describing colours as just black or white and then follow the universal pattern of adding red, followed by either yellow or green. Unlike other words we use that alter over time, once a word for a colour is introduced to a language, it doesnt change. https://www.pnas.org/content/113/48/13666

22.01.2022 We're thrilled the Waste Export Ban has been included in this year's Budget with $250 million allocated to grow Australia’s waste and recycling capability. The print industry's The Real Media Collective have been lobbying heavily for this goal and are now working on the establishment of a taskforce with government, academics and technical partners to develop an innovative solution with a global influence.

22.01.2022 Ecologic, in partnership with Seed Phytonutrients, have created the first shower-friendly paper bottle. Made from 100% post-consumer recycled paper, its recyclable and compostable material is held together through interlocking grooves. Each bottle has an inner water-resistant lining that can be squeezed so you collapse the packaging as you use it and get to that very last drop. That's a feature we've been waiting to see.... The lining is made with food-grade recycled plastic that’s 95% thinner than regular plastic bottles and is now being used across a range of their products, including moisturisers and hand wash.

Their ad agency, JWT Brazil, created this uniquely creative piece of marketing, which was an instant success. They only had to make 1,000 cards as the aim was for its image to do all the work. They were so popular with their customers they had to limit them to one per customer every three days.

20.01.2022 In an inspired piece of creative design, the UKs Karmarama created a series of posters for the British Army that plays on the old Your Country Needs You posters by calling the criticisms often levelled at Millennial as strengths. It reached out to Me, Me, Millennials for their self belief, Binge Gamers for their drive and Phone Zombies for their focus, telling them these are sought-after traits in the army and they should consider enlisting for a non-boring, fulfilling career. www.dezeen.com/2019/01/04/british-army-recruitment-design

14.01.2022 Lorem ipsum is the most widely used dummy text when creating work where the text content is yet to be written. Not only does it have no meaning in English, it doesn't mean anything in Latin either. It was first used as dummy text way back in the 1500s and has an interesting origin in common with "it's Greek to me". The term is derived from a work by Cicero written in 45BC.

14.01.2022 Graphic designers are well positioned to provide creative solutions to whatever life can bring, including helping to save lives. Were seeing wonderful examples of this during this current unusual time, but do you know that life-saving infographics have been around since Florence Nightingale used one in 1858 to explain the causes of military deaths?

13.01.2022 Weve created these three designs for posters you may need right now. We can help you create a quality product, but if you need one today youre welcome to download the artwork for free to print on your office printer.

12.01.2022 Check out this infographic from Two Sides that shows the flaws in the Going Paperless idea. Rather than saving the environment, the push to get you to go digital for everything is more about saving time and money for the company trying to get you to agree to it. Australians recover 87% and recycle 70% of their paper, and have the second highest rate of forest growth in the world. Paper is a sustainable and environmentally friendly industry with an annual turnover of $7.5b for our nation. https://www.therealmediacollective.com.au//TwoSides_GoingP

10.01.2022 Fore-edge painting is the decorative image that is sometimes painted onto the edge of a book. The technique goes way back to the 900s but only found popularity in the mid-1600s when the hidden image was created. The painting was applied to the fanned edges of the book, then gilded so you can only see the image if you twist the book slightly. Sometimes, a second image was painted that could only be seen by turning the book upside down and fanning the pages from that direction. Almost all the fore-edge artists have been lost to history because they didnt sign their work.
