24.01.2022 As 2020 came to a close, I had a very special call with some alumni of the Opening Doors Social Inclusion Leadership Program here in Melbourne. Part of our reflection centred around what had changed in our world as leaders since Covid-19 arrived. As we concluded the session, one of the group asked, ‘As we gradually come out the other side of the pandemic, how do we encourage others to come back to the world of being together after having been apart (for some, very contentedly...) for so long?’ With little time left to respond, I promised would call on our Fellows and Friends across the globe (given the diversity of experiences they have had in relation to lockdowns and restrictions during the pandemic) and ask for their insights and thoughts on this question. I thought it would be good to start this year by sharing some of their responses. https://globalleadershipfoundation.com/coming-back-being-t/

16.01.2022 I recently came across a presentation I delivered to the Student Conference of AHRI (the Australian Human Resources Institute) in 1998. The topic was ‘Building a sustainable career’, with a particular focus for those who were at the beginning of their professions and not in formal leadership roles. Looking back at it now, I can’t help feeling that many of the points I made are still relevant today. Further, they’re not only appropriate to those at the start of their career, b...ut to anyone at any point in their working life even the later years. I’ll summarise what I said in the hope that it might provide you with some food for thought. My central point was that we do both ourselves and the organisations we work for a disservice when we allow ourselves to simply ‘go with the flow’, with external circumstances dictating where our career takes us. The better alternative to this is to be a ‘courageous follower’ a proactive participant in the shaping of your own path. Read more: https://globalleadershipfoundation.com/courageous-follower/

15.01.2022 For those located in Australia, we are excited to invite you to join us for another very unique Leadership Experience in the southern Flinders Ranges (Ikara) from May 21st 25th, 2021. ‘Ikara Ediacara’ is designed to not only strengthen your own levels of self-awareness and emotional health, but also challenge your thinking on leadership given the perspectives of those with whom we will connect. As part of our journey together (in a group of no more than eight leaders), ...we will visit and explore the many spectacular gorges and unique environment of Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, meet and 'walk the land' with local communities of traditional owners and pastoralists to better understand the past, present and future importance of this area for everyone, and spend time at the site of one of the oldest and most intact fossil beds in the world (Ediacara) on Nilpena Station. For more information and to register, please visit this page on our website: https://globalleadershipfoundation.com//ikara-ediacara-a-/

12.01.2022 This month on our blog, I’m revisiting a post that was originally written in 2012 ahead of council elections in Victoria, Australia. With another, slightly larger, election imminent, I thought it might be worth revisiting with some appropriate adaptation. The arrival of election day 2020 in the USA, with the whole world watching in various forms of anxiousness and fascination, has brought to mind for me some work we did some years ago with a city council. It was a lesson in t...he way some leaders see themselves in relation to the rest of their organisation, jurisdiction or nation. When it comes to electoral choice, there is an important distinction to be made between a candidate, their policies and the approach they take to the body to which they hope to be elected. 11.01.2022 The free upcoming online leadership conference 'Take me to your Leader' is nearly here, so it's your last chance to register. Even if you can't make it, registering is a good idea because it will give you access to all the recorded sessions after the event. And while you're on the page, scroll to the bottom where you'll find a number of pre-recorded videos, including one from our own Gayle Hardie. http://goodbusinessmatters.com.au/take-me-to-your-leader/

09.01.2022 Global Fellow Susie Gregory has recently produced a wonderful animated video demonstrating a very simple but powerful technique to settle and calm behaviour. We encourage you to take a look: there's something in this for all of us. http://www.healthyoutlook.com.au/happytap.html

08.01.2022 Malcolm and Gayle will be presenting virtually at the upcoming '21st Century Leadership and Education Conference' hosted by the ISNF Cyprus Foundation. 08.01.2022 We were so pleased to be able to host our annual end-of-year Fellowship Event in Melbourne last month. We felt truly blessed to have the opportunity to reconnect face-to-face with many of our Fellows, Friends, colleagues and clients, albeit following all the physical distancing and COVID procedures! We always enjoy each other's company at these events, however I think this time there was a little extra something to our celebrations. As usual, we shared a little about our work... in 2020 and presented our annual report that detailed the specific pro-bono and low-bono projects undertaken by our Global team during the year. We were also pleased to announce that we will be providing a scholarship for the 2021 Small Giants Mastery of Business and Empathy program as well as sponsoring ongoing leadership development with amazing young leaders through AIESEC. We look forward to continuing to connect with all of you in a variety of ways in 2021, particularly through Tables of Ten and the Global Ikara-Ediacara Leadership Experiences (in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia) planned for May (dates TBC). Our annual report can be accessed here: http://ow.ly/Lwgq50De2UG

04.01.2022 One of the conversations that is occurring more frequently for us at the moment revolves around people returning to the workplace as we transition towards a ‘post-pandemic’ world. In most states of Australia, various workplaces are now permitted to have 50 to 75 per cent of their workforce back on site, provided certain Covid-safe practices are adhered to. In these conversations, some of our clients have shared that a number of their team members are less than enthusiastic ab...out the idea of returning to the office. For several leaders, this is quite perplexing as they did not expect this resistance. As one of them summarised, ‘If, before Covid, I’d asked my team to work from home full time, they would have said it would never work. Now I am having trouble getting them all back!’ In supporting our clients to better understand what might be happening, we have encouraged them to look at some of the potential reasons for this reticence.
