Chinese Companies in Australia: Cultural Challenges and the Role of HRM Date and Time Monday 19 October 2015 12.00pm - 2:00pm Venue Green Brain Conference Rooms RMIT Storey Hall Building 16, Level 07 336 348 Swanston Street, Melbourne Price: Free of charge but please RSVP Registration details and enquiries Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) Email: [email protected] Phone: 03 9918 9243 Registration closes Friday 16 October 2015 The last 10 years have seen an increasing number of Chinese companies expand their business into the Australian economy in a range of industries. These companies are faced with a number of challenges in regard to their understanding of the Australian institutional and regulatory environment. They also encounter enormous cross cultural differences in their management of Australian workers and in their relationships with the local community. In this lunchtime seminar we examine how these challenges impact not only on Chinese businesses but also on HRM professionals. We hear from Professor Ying Zhu Director of the Australian Centre for Asian Business at the University of South Australia a leading academic in researching Chinese companies. We also hear from Sean Jansz HR Manager at TCL Electonics about the people management challenges that he has faced managing this Chinese business in Australia. We ask what are the some of the challenges facing HRM practitioners in this context and what are the implications for practitioners and academics? The seminar is aimed at HRM and IR practitioners and also academics in the international business and international HRM disciplines. Chair: Professor Pauline Stanton, Head of The School of Management, RMIT University. Speakers Professor Ying Zhu, Director, Australian Centre for Asian Business at The University of South Australia. Sean Jansz, Human Resource Manager, TCL Australia Electronics.
