25.01.2022 The Northern Territory's most valuable tree crop is only weeks away from ruin. The NT Government has been warned the annual mango harvest, with most of the nation's mango trees located in the Katherine region, is facing a $50 million disaster due to COVID restrictions and the shortage of seasonal workers. Annually, between 2000-2500 mango pickers from regions that include Timor-Leste, Fiji, Vanuatu and other Asian/Pacific nations, come to the NT to work. But this tradition...al workforce has been blocked by restricted movement across Australian and international borders because of the pandemic. Producing approximately 40,000 tonnes of mangoes each year, NT farmers contribute more than 52 per cent of the combined national crop, but this season $50 million of mangoes could end up rotting on the ground. We need urgent action to address the labour shortfall in farms across Australia. #thankful4farmers #Farmers #Australianfarmers #Farming #Organic #Farm #Farmtoplate #australia #foodsecurity #product #quality #community #sustainableagriculture #thankful4mango #mango @thankful4farmers @chefmattmoran @mike_chuter @Kim.thankful See more

16.01.2022 A team at UNSW UNSW Science is working on new technology to extract valuable materials and elements from waste products and turn them into strengthening layers for steel and other applications. Because of the targeted way these elements are extracted, they've dubbed the method 'material microsurgery'. It's an exciting development for Australia’s recycling space, as we draw closer to having to process all of our waste onshore. The researchers hope that instead of seeing wa...ste, we see renewable resources in these materials https://fal.cn/39ODW
