The demand is so high for space on vessels and shipping line refusing to put on any additional services So they can control the market price.... - Sydney ports are still a mess with massive port congestion and industrial action still continuing. There is always heavy port congestion in China base ports with most vessels experiencing a delay of 7-10 days before actual departure - The delays in Sydney port is having a flow on affect with unexpected delays to Brisbane and Melbourne ports as well. - At the moment, most of the shipping lines are not accepting any new bookings to Sydney port if shipments are urgent we will need you to consider moving Freight VIA Melbourne or Brisbane ports. - We are monitoring the situation daily, hoping it passes soon so we can return to some form of normality. 15.01.2022 Sydney Port Update // Shipping Line Congestion Surcharge Due to a combination of factors including industrial action which caused heavy congestion at Sydney terminals. This congestion has led to significant delays to vessel schedules causing an increase in overall operational costs. Please note delays in ETA are now having an effect on Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth ports.... As a result of these circumstances, carriers have following action: - 1) Carriers have/will impose Port Congestion Surcharge for all shipments to Sydney until further notice. Below are the surcharges announced by carriers up to now for your reference. It is not limited to below listed carriers, all are subject to any additional charge as per carrier if any. 09.01.2022 Hanjin Shipping Co., Ltd. file for court receivership. Hanjin Shipping has today broadcasted confirmation that they filed for court receivership on the 31/08. Since initial reports yesterday citing creditors had withdrawn their support of Hanjin Shipping, the situation has quickly developed with many reports stating Hanjin owned and operated vessels are being held at ports around the world and being refused berthing at others.... For customers of Global Trade Logistics Pty Ltd we must stress that there are very few bookings directly affected by this situation and we will advise the individual circumstances as known.The wider reaching ramifications are yet un-known, but Hanjin like all shipping lines belong to vessel sharing alliances and individually operate vessels within many port rotations. Most carriers also slot charter space on these same vessels. The reduction of tonnage and abrupt removal of vessels operating in these alliances will no doubt cause delays, although its difficult to pre-empt the net effect, it would be prudent to expect impacts through port congestion, transhipment delays and no doubt increased pressure on remaining services. 09.01.2022 Hapag-Lloyd is to unite with UASC. The news follows the Dubai-headquartered carrier being excluded from the new Ocean Alliance announced yesterday. Hapag-Lloyd has a fleet capacity of around 920,000 TEU, making them the sixth-largest international carrier, while UASC operates approximately 550,000 TEU, ranking it tenth. Their joint fleet will push the new entity to fifth in the rankings, just behind COSCO. UASC does not report its financials, but it is understood that the carrier suffered a serious loss last year, rumoured to be approximately $500m, as the Asia-Europe market collapsed. Hapag-Lloyd also completed 2015 trading in the red, but due to a $176m surplus achieved in the first half, posted a full-year net profit of $126m its first since 2010.
