25.01.2022 News this week -As a result of shifting our program so that we can take it to schools, we are excited to announce we have grown from having 30 year 6 students to roughly 100 participants (from 4 schools)! This means there are more young people in need of sponsorship! We are almost half way to our goal of $2000. $20 covers the cost of a student for the entire program! Please chip in whatever you can, 100% of your money goes to these kids in need (and it's tax deductible): http...s://www.mycause.com.au//2/future-fit-sponsor-a-student -Welcome Sinéad McCullough to the GVS committee. Check out her motivations for joining the team (as a volunteer above her full time teaching commitments!!!): Sinead loved learning as a young person and wants as many other young people as possible to have the same experience of school and learning. Through her Teach for Australia placement in a regional Victorian school, she observed first-hand the wide educational gap between students from different backgrounds, and the ways in which the current schooling system struggled to support and engage some students. She also saw the hard work, perseverance and grit those same students showed every day, as well as the frustration they experienced when they felt their needs were not being met. Sinead looks forward to helping shape Global Village School into the solution these students need to help them find their place in the education system and uncover skills and pathways they may not have been aware of before.

12.01.2022 This is what focused group work looks like, when students are interested in what they are doing and when there is a real life purpose to their learning. 11.01.2022 Our young people are facing a bleak job market in the coming years. According to this recent report from Vic Uni/the Mitchell Institute there are now 100,000 fewer jobs than before the Coronavirus and very concerningly, 120,000 extra young people are predicted to fall out of employment or education settings. Now, more than ever there is a need to call into question an education model that prepares kids for the jobs of yesterday. Our youth need to diversify their skills, build strong enterprising and emotional abilities and be flexible and adaptable. If you can offer a job, be a mentor, or volunteer your time, knowledge or skills to a young person than now is the time! https://www.vu.edu.au//averting-an-escalating-labour-marke

08.01.2022 As long as we see school and the classroom as a place where kids need to be 'controlled' (both physically and psychologically), they will fight back in the only way they know how. That's why, at Global Village School we believe that outdoor education is an indispensable part of the learning approach. Our students will attend a camp together every term and yes, just like this school, much of the learning will happen outside of the classroom! https://www.abc.net.au//outdoor-lessons-at-primar/12848326
