Unlike sugary gum which breaks down and creates an acidic, cavity-causing pH in the mouth xylitol maintains a consistent PH and chewing it helps promote saliva production. 11.01.2022 There are a few things you can do to get some temporary relief for a toothache. 1) Try rinsing with warm salt water. If this makes it worse, try rinsing with cold water. Depending on the problem, cold water might feel better than warm water. 2) Floss around the problem tooth, as there may be food stuck. Remember to be gentle and not to force the floss between the teeth. 3) Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, as directed. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum or too...th. 4) Rub an over-the-counter antiseptic containing benzocaine or clove oil onto the affected tooth and gum to numb the pain. 5) Place a cold compress on the outside of your cheek. Most importantly, give us a call at your earliest convenience. We’ll take a look at that tooth and let you know what’s wrong.
