25.01.2022 Hi All, It's that time of year again, 4 years has flown by, it's time for new and improved Council elections ! - to save you some time, and having to ask each Mayoral and Division 11 candidate what they can do for you to earn your vote, I have asked each candidate the same question below -(Cherie Porter and Eric Shields were unable to be tagged) I have sent the question by text to all 5 Candidates. I will post replies. Councillor Peter Flannery for Mayor Dean For Mayor Moret...on Bay Regional Council Chris Thompson 2020 Darren Grimwade What policies or ideas do you have to better the lives of the residents who live in the mountain communities and are at the edge of the region? Our communities are going through demographic change, we have an aging population, and an emerging population of children. Our communities are sorely lacking infrastructure and services. Will you commit to give equitable spending on projects to Mt Glorious and Mt Nebo ? Mount Glorious Community Association does not endorse any Candidate and is asking this question on behalf of residents to assist you in making an informed decision on election day.

24.01.2022 Are you feeling a bit kinky? Just a reminder that there is a regular Saturday yoga class at the hall to work those kinks out. Yes, red wine drinkers are encouraged to attend and are made most welcome. 1030 am on Saturday Mornings or 1030 am Monday Mornings if you are too hung over to wake up before lunchtime on the weekend - that covers all excuses. All jokes aside, Do your body a favour it will thank you for it.

23.01.2022 Huge thanks to those who came out to the working bee to spruce up the Mount Glorious Community Hall, & update the signs for Art With Altitude- many hands made light work, & it was done in record time! Thanks also to Wendy for the fabulous cake for afternoon tea!! :-) A few quick phone snaps!

23.01.2022 It was great to catch up yesterday with Peter and Helen Hempsall (formerly of Cloverlea Cottage restaurant - now at Heritage Hotel and Function Centre Petrie) and to give them a gift from the Mount Glorious Community Association - a beautiful rainforest photo by Karen Hutt. They asked to be remembered to all their friends in the Mt Glorious Community, and hope to visit at future Mt Glorious events

23.01.2022 Picnic Shelter and Maiala NP day use area upgrade update. Hi All, I have news from Nikki Boyd MP and Queensland National Parks along with a few photos of some of the works to date, an engineers report re the picnic shelter and photos of flash new signs that will be in the new interpretive nodes. Also there are three plans showing the full scope of works to be performed, ... TLDR - The Picnic Shelter is repairable and is staying. It will be brought up to code and be compliant and have disability (PWD) access. There are new pathways that give PWD access and also another PWD carpark with access to a new picnic shelter in the lower part of the day use area. The lawn area is being preserved. There are electric BBQs and new timber picnic tables, new signage and interpretive nodes along with a new entrance sign. This is really exciting to see and so good for all people to finally get equitable access to such a great place. The expected end date to construction is Easter 2020. More updates will follow as the build continues but so far it looks bloody amazing !! See more

20.01.2022 Calling all artists and craftspeople! With not Art with Altitude scheduled this year (owing to the rebuild of the hall) we are looking at a limited involvement in the Samford Arts Trail in June. While this is expensive to do as an individual, we can have a very affordable arrangement as a group of at least 10 artists. ... We can also opt to only open only one or two weekends out of the four, thereby reducing weekend involvement, as well as the cost of hall hire. Participants of the group can either open their own studio space or display their work in the Mt Glorious hall. The total cost per artist would be a maximum of $50-$70 (1-2 weekends). Non-members of Creative Samford would also have to pay the $25 yearly membership. If we decide to open the weekend of 6th/7th June, we would be included in a regional food & wine tour which would add the Mt Glorious studios to its itinerary. I need to respond to Creative Samford as soon as possible, so please let me know by the end of this week if: 1) You are interested in participating 2) How many weekends you would be prepared to do (given you are expected to be on site to talk to visitors) 3) If you would be available the weekend of 7th/8th June Rose

19.01.2022 Maiala NP picnic shelter will live on for future generations of Queenslanders to enjoy. Thank you Nikki Boyd MP for advocating on behalf of our community to save this wonderful piece of National Park Architecture https://nikkiboyd.com.au//iconic-maiala-picnic-shelter-sa/

18.01.2022 Queensland National Parks is currently developing a sign, to be erected at the new shelter at Maiala, celebrating some of the history of the old shelter. As a result they are looking for people with stories to tell about their connection to the old shelter, or other interesting details or events connected to it. If you can help please forward your name and contacts to Bill at [email protected] and he will forward them on to QPWS

15.01.2022 +UPDATED* Hi Everybody, Please be advised that yesterday the Queensland Government has issued a Home Confinement Direction Order for all residents of Queensland. This means that you are unable to have any more than two people apart from your family inside your house.... According the Chief Medical Officer, The Health Minister and The Premier ,you can only leave your house to get food and medicine, go to work, exercise, visit the doctor or to provide care to someone you are responsible for. If you leave your residence for any other reason you are considered to be failing to adhere to the order and the result is a possible $1334 fine. https://www.facebook.com/nikkiforpinerivers/videos/2853292038097146/ QLD National Parks day use areas and camping areas and SOME walking tracks have been closed, as well as parks with exercise equipment, playgrounds, gyms, skate parks, bike tracks and barbecues. Check the parks website for individual restrictions pertaining to the different parks and regions. Some residents have already had a visit or phone call from the Qld Police Service (including myself) and some are letting their children out to go and socialise at other peoples houses and not observing social isolation protocols. Please remember that authorities are serious about enforcing this Public Heatlh Order and people are reporting their neightbours. If Mt Glorious residents require assistance with the challenges of being isolated, e.g having access issues to groceries, medication, or need urgent home maintenance (loss of power etc - no water etc) Please call 0491 110 778 or email us and we will endeavour to do our best to help you or facilitate a solution for you. https://www.health.qld.gov.au///home-confinement-direction

13.01.2022 To all fishers, remember there is an awesome fishery on our back door that is supported by an amazing team of people. There are trophy size Bass, Saratoga, Golden Perch and also Mary River Cod right in our own backyard.

13.01.2022 Not only is this a fabulous video, filmed in Maiala, but it includes information regarding a newly identified species endemic to Mount Glorious needing a name! As a community, we should surely be able to suggest a name (or 2 or 3!) to go into the hat to name this newly identified spider- it would be a shame if the name eventually chosen by the Qld museum was not of a local, past or present, who is part of the history of the region, or someone who deserves recognition for some...thing that they have done for the area. Any thoughts? Competition is open for suggestions until May next year... NB, if you do go to look for them, please be respectful- they dont like very bright torches, they shrink back, both from an overly bright light, and possibly also dislike the heat from the higher lumen output torches, but if you use a less-powerful torch, you may be rewarded with a fascinating view, without upsetting them! Please observe them briefly at home, without unduly harrassing or teasing them! https://www.brisbanetimes.com.au//queensland-museum-wants-
