24.01.2022 Ive been a little quiet on current events because firstly who wants to hear from me and secondly I wanted to think carefully about a meaningful and tangible w...ay to contribute to the fight for equality, justice and reconciliation in Australia. I think that the best way I can do this is by amplifying Indigenous voices through direct funding of creative projects. I am committing $5000 (5 x $1000 grants) directly to young Indigenous artists. If you, or an artist you know needs some extra funding to create work or bring a project to life - whether this be photography, music, a podcast, film, painting, writing get in touch and tell me about what youre working on here: https://forms.gle/ZwLMnQBe4VZZHyi2A Creativity and storytelling is how I express myself, its how I am seen and heard. Its why I even have this platform and why youre reading this now. Creative expression is empowering and the truth is, the more access to resources (time, money, contacts) the more opportunity there is for your voice to be heard. Its not a crazy amount, but I know from experience how much difference a little extra funding can make to an early career artist. I had to crowdfund my first exhibition ten years ago because I couldnt afford the printing costs on my own (and thank you if youve been around since then!) I think its more important than ever to listen and learn from First Nations voices and I hope this helps in some small way (These portraits are of some of the beautiful kids Ive met on my travels and work in remote communities over the years) -- www.instagram.com/jarradseng www.jarradseng.com
