24.01.2022 Happy Vet Nurse Day to our wonderful Vet Nurses Bre, Tiffany, Peta, Kristen and Cayla as well as our trainee and student nurses Thanks for always lighting up the room with your smiles and for knowing the quirks of all of our patients Thanks for doing all the not so glamourous jobs that come with being a nurse, and for putting in 150% throughout the day ( and night when emergencies arise) ... We appreciate everything you do to try and keep our vets organised and running like well oiled machines- we would certainly be lost without you all
23.01.2022 Little Chilli the Guinea Pig came in with two of his lady friends today! After discovering they were both pregnant we decided that he had done his duty and it was best we kept him for castration- here he is all snuggled up in recovery Guinea Pigs are prone to gut stasis so Chilli got some delicious carrot and apple to nibble on as soon as he was awake
23.01.2022 these boots were made for warming patients going under anaesthesia are at risk of getting hypothermia as they are unable to regulate their temperature and particular pre medications given can affect their temp as well. To prevent this, patient temperatures are checked on pre medication, their warmed throughout the procedure, their temperature is monitored throughout the procedure and warmed post surgery/recovery. Isn’t this kitties little booties cute!

17.01.2022 This segment aired on SBS on Tuesday night, unfortunately it hit us all very close to home- I don't think any of us had a dry eye by the end of the hour... It is tough watching, but we think it is important that we acknowledge this dark aspect of life in our industry. We love living and working in a small town, we love the relationships we get the privilege to build with clients and their animals, we love watching families grow and change, we love the diversity of cases we g...et to deal with, but sometimes all of this love can take a toll. There are huge emotions attached with animal ownership- obviously huge amounts of love, concern for their welfare and distress when they are unwell or suffering- we get it, we feel these emotions also- for your animals as well as for our own...Then when you couple these stressors with everything that goes on in the background of life- be it financial hardship, prolonged drought, your own health or family issues it can all get too much- a literal pressure cooker... Please, if at any stage you are finding it all a bit too much, just come in, sit down and have a chat with us. We are humans ourselves, and we understand that things don't always go to plan... Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out to us since this aired- be it via the delivery of a pumpkin fruitcake ( did we mention we love living in a small country town ) or just by taking a few extra minutes out of your days to let us know you've been thinking about us, it honestly means so much - particularly at the end of a long, emotionally exhausting day We take a huge amount of pride in servicing you all and your animals to the best of our abilities and it means the world to us to know that our efforts don't go unnoticed #loveyourvet
16.01.2022 How beautiful is Moose! At four hours old he was already very stable on his legs, and nearly as tall as his Mumma He has been one of the biggest babes we have seen this springtime! It is normal for foals to be up and standing and suckling within an hour of birth, walking within 2 and getting their noses into mischief soon after this!! They make us humans look pretty slow at getting going, don't they?
14.01.2022 We have a little stray Ginger Kitten who is missing his owners dearly! Phone us on 6558 1504 if you might be missing your little mate
13.01.2022 This little cutie was brought in as a stray this week. She is only about 10 weeks old and very cuddly! Help us find her owners! Ph: 6558 1504

11.01.2022 Is Your Pet Overdue For Their Vaccination? Due to the recent Parvovirus outbreak in town, it's important to ensure your pets are up to date with their vaccinations! If you are unsure of the status of your pets vaccination, please call us at the clinic 6558 1504. Or send us an email with any questions you may have; [email protected] Parvovirus Infection... "What is Parvo?" Canine parvovirus is a highly contagious virus that is spread by direct or indirect contact with an infected dog's faeces. "What are the signs & symptoms?" Signs and symptoms of Parvovirus generally take the form of severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Other symptoms can include lack of appetite, depression and fever. It is important to note that many dogs may not show every clinical sign, but vomiting and diarrhoea are the most common signs. "Can it be treated successfully?" Parvo-virus is incredibly dangerous to dogs. As with most viral diseases, there are limited treatments available to directly kill the virus once it infects the dog. However, supportive therapy with fluids, antibiotics and hospitalisation will give your pet a good chance of recovery. "Can it be prevented?" The best method of protecting your dog against Parvovirus is vaccination. This includes the 3 initial puppy vaccinations and yearly booster vaccinations. It is important to note at the present time, there is no evidence to indicate that Canine Parvovirus is transmissible to cats or humans
11.01.2022 We are currently seeing a spike in Parvo cases in Gloucester and need everyone to be taking precautions to help us flatten the curve Like COVID, Parvo is very highly contagious, thus we can see it spreading rapidly through communities... Unlike COVID, thankfully, we have a very effective vaccine which is able to keep dogs safe when used properly. If your dog is- ... Unvaccinated Not up to date with vaccine (They do need yearly or three yearly vaccines depending on vaccine type) A puppy who has not finished their three shot puppy vaccination course They ARE AT RISK and need to be socially distancing at home with you. No walking the streets No puppy house parties No swims in the river or jaunts to the beach If your dog is showing signs of vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy we will ask you to wait in your car while you are awaiting a Vet... We have a special isolation area in the hospital reserved for Parvo and other nasty bugs so we can keep the rest of the hospital clean and able to function normally Please contact us if you would like to check the status of your dogs vaccination on 6558 1504.
10.01.2022 We wanted to give a HUGE shout out to Julie and Pete Laurantus, who are always on hand day or night when we need emergency blood donations. 3 critically ill dogs owe their lives to Pete and Julie this week alone! And we owe them a huge debt of gratitude!
10.01.2022 Meet Layla, the miracle dog! Layla presented to us on Sunday afternoon because she was very wobbly, especially in her back legs. She deteriorated overnight and by Monday morning was very sick and not able to raise her head. Layla had been running around her owner's property having a grand time, until she became very sick after having a little taste of a calf that had been humanely euthanized a few months ago. The calf had been put to sleep using 'Lethabarb', which is an ...overdose of anaesthetic, and the drug stays in their body even once they have passed away. Layla had ingested enough of the calf's affected tissue to put herself into a coma. We monitored her closely throughout Monday, and one of our wonderful nurses, Peta, noticed that her gums were turning a grey-blue colour. This occured because Layla was in such a deep coma that she was no longer able to breathe for herself. Our team jumped into action and placed a tube down her throat, and gave her medication to stimulate her breathing. Layla had a tube down her throat, protecting her airways for 24 hours before she was able to maintain her breathing herself. Over the next few days she slowly improved, and we are happy to say that she has been re-united with her owner this morning - we aren't sure who was happier... Layla, her wonderful owner or our staff! What a beautiful and strong girl Layla is!
09.01.2022 happy friday kids #mareemapups
09.01.2022 Please contact ASAP on 0407036660 if you see a lost looking ginger cat in your yard- Unfortunately he slipped his collar and harness en-route to visit us this afternoon. Hopefully he is still within a reasonable close proximity to Hume St. He is quite friendly and very food orientated.
09.01.2022 LIPOMAS. These are benign tumours formed by fat cells. These particular cells grow at a more rapid rate to the surrounding fat tissue which therefore forms a lump. All lumps can range is size and some patients can have a few lumps! Although most lipomas are benign, it is recommend to always get them checked by your vet. A simple FNA (fine need aspirate) is performed to remove cells from the lump and viewed under the microscope (as seen here) to check for any abnormalities

06.01.2022 R U OK DAY. The veterinary industry is fantastic dealing with animals big and small everyday as well as our great pet owners. Sadly, it is a very exhausting and emotional career for our vets and nurses. On this day, to our fellow vets, nurses, receptionists and other support staff, please check in with each other and take the time to have a chat with each other. As you can see, we have such a fun team of professionals that strongly support each other. Thank you to to each of our staff for all the hard work you all do everyday and for treating each patient like our own GIVE IT TO THE TEAM
06.01.2022 Why do our pooches hate their manicures and pedicures so much???
05.01.2022 This little guy hitched a ride into the clinic on a very wobbly working doggo this morning- he certainly wasn't up to chasing any cows! He is a very timely reminder that even though we have had a few little frosts and there is a marked nip in the air we do see pesky Paralysis ticks year round and need to keep up the preventables
05.01.2022 Community Announcement - Please be wary when walking your doggies near Billabong Park. One of our patients was recently treated for MARIJUANA TOXICITY after eating a suspicious bag on his daily walk. Dog's are particularly sensitive to Marijuana, and even a small amount can make them extremely unwell.

03.01.2022 We need a forever home Curious, inquisitive and ready for their new forever homes! We have loved fostering these adorable little squirts and watching them greet everyone as they walk into the clinic, but it is time for them to move into the big wide world and find a loving home. These little boys are of great health. They are extremely bonded to one another so adopting them as a pair would be preferred but any loving home would be amazing for them. Please call us at the clinic or pop in for cuddle time if you are interested in adopting these little cuties!

We do have a range of ear cleaners available and some deals on our bulk ear cleaners at the moment to help prevent nasty, smelly infections

01.01.2022 little babies needing new loving homes soon!
01.01.2022 We had a busy Tuesday afternoon with a poor ewe that had been attacked by wild dogs over night. She quickly needed surgery and a blood transfusion as she had lost a lot of blood. We are pleased to say that surgery went well for her and she recovered quickly, going home the next day! We would love to thank Sally & Chris Maslen for letting us come at the last minute to get blood from one of your sheep! Pictured here is Amy with the donor sheep. Life savers @ Gloucester District Vets
