25.01.2022 LADIES BOWLS The final of the Bonnie Hazelwood Triples took place on Wednesday, 2 December, between Joan Ridgeway, Paula Standen and Jan Jones and Kerrie Green, Cheryl West and Di Pritchard (sub for Jenny Burley). It was a very nerve-wracking match to watch, with Joan’s team leading 17-3 around halfway, however, Kerrie’s team began to catch up, getting a 7 and a 5 in two ends. By the final end the score was at 19-all. With some nail-biting bowling taking place, Kerrie’s te...am managed to pull off a win - 20-19. Well done to all for an entertaining end to the season. Three social games were also played with the following results: Jean Holstein and Julie Kriss defeated Val Pritchard and Colleen Atkins (18-11), Bev Germon and Lorraine Ratcliffe and Del Buckton and Judy Sheely drew 19-all and Jill Everett, Vera Whatmore and Jenny Stevens had a win over Bev Murray, Joy Hurworth and Helen Banks. Next week is the last Wednesday of the season when the ladies are holding their Christmas lunch, following a fun morning on the green. The new season starts on Wednesday, 20 January 2021 we hope everyone enjoys their Christmas and has a happy New Year.



25.01.2022 Minor Singles Today was the start of the ladies Minor Singles, with two games taking place (everyone else had a bye and will play next week). Jenny Burley defeated Pattie West (25-10) and June Carter defeated Ruth Redman, who forfeited, not feeling well part way through.... Next week the following matches will take place: Jenny Burley v June Carter, Joy Hurworth v Colleen Atkins, Julie Kriss v Di Lockwood and Katharine Stuckings v Lorraine Ratcliffe. Also, today, there were three social games resulting in the following wins: Jill Everett, Joy Hurworth and Jan Jones defeated Bev Germon, Del Buckton and Colleen Atkins (25-8), Jean Holstein, Judy Sheely and Helen Banks defeated Bev Murray, Di Lockwood and Julie Kriss (28-8) and Di Pritchard, Lorraine Ratcliffe and Sandy Misch (visitor) defeated Kerrie Green, Norma Relf and Jenny Stevens (17-11).

22.01.2022 Ladies’ Minor Singles Today was the quarter finals of the Minor Singles with the results as follows: Jenny Burley defeated June Carter, 26-17... Di Lockwood defeated Julie Kriss, 25-11 Lorraine Ratcliffe defeated Katharine Stuckings, 25-11 Joy Hurworth won on a forfeit from Colleen Atkins Next week (7 October) will see the semi-finals played between Jenny Burley and Joy Hurworth and Di Lockwood and Lorraine Ratcliffe. There were also three games of social bowls resulting in a win for Del Buckton, Judy Sheely and Jan Jones over Bev Germon, Val Pritchard and Jenny Stevens (14-11), Pat Cox and Denise Redman over Joan Ridgeway and Helen Banks (20-10) and Jill Everett and Norma Relf over Bev Murray and Joy Hurworth (19-13). The Consistency Singles will be drawn next week and commence on 14 October. Also, if you want to play mixed bowls on Saturday, from 9.30 am, please sign on the noticeboard in the clubhouse.

22.01.2022 MEN’S BOWLS Thursday bowls winners were two visitors Adam Wallace and Michael Smith who showed the locals Gary Moss and Robbie Bowden what bowls is all about having a comfortable victory 28-14 and in the remaining games Lu Urby, George Wisemantel and the new recruit Phil Drew, who showed promise in his first game, wicked their way to victory over the frustrated Steve Brown, Neville Atkins, Norm McLeod 25-11, Gordon Pritchard, Alex Laurie, Charlie Faulkner playing a swinging l...ead defeated Vic Hebblewhite and Col Beattie 22-15 and in a close struggle Terry Higgins, Mike Sheely, Chris Pritchard defeated Kevin Everett, Don Meheiloff, Ken Bryant 19-16. MEN’S MINOR SINGLES Sunday morning saw the culmination of the year’s championships completed, with Mike Sheely taking on Gary Moss in the final of the Minor Singles with Mike handling the early start winning the first three ends, but then lost five consecutive ends to give Gary a sniff but once the big match nerves settled the issue was never in doubt, with Mike running out a comfortable winner 31-22 to become the 2020 Minor Singles champion and thanks must go to our bowls secretary, Terry Davies, for the difficult task of organising all the championship games during the covid issues.



22.01.2022 LADIES BOWLS On 18 November, the Bonnie Hazelwood Triples were played with the following results: Julie Kriss, Judy Sheely and Bev Murray defeated Di Lockwood, Lorraine Ratcliffe and Jean Holstein (23-17) and Jan Jones, Paula Standen and Joan Ridgeway defeated Joy Hurworth, Pattie West and Vera Whatmore (26-10).... There were also two social games played on that day with Jenny Burley and Kerrie Green defeating Val Pritchard and Bev Germon (29-8) and Colleen Atkins, Norma Relf and Del Buckton, drawing 15-all, with Colleen Atkins, Helen Banks and Jill Everett. On 20 November, the final of the Thelma Bolton Pairs was played with Colleen Atkins and Jean Holstein defeating Lorraine Ratcliffe and Kerrie Green (16-14). On Wednesday, 25 November, the semi-final of the Bonnie Hazelwood Triples will take place between Jenny Burley, Cheryl West and Kerrie Green and Julie Kriss, Judy Sheely and Bev Murray. The first round of the Bonnie Hazelwood Fours is due to take place on Friday, 27 November, but that may change.

21.01.2022 MEN’S BOWLS Thursday bowls took on a new format playing versatile with players swapping positions after every seven ends which produced some interesting scores. Neville Atkins, Rob Gibson, Nico Duynhoven won the day defeating Terry Davies, Peter Sansom, Robert Hayes 26-13, Jim McIntosh, Don Meheiloff, Kevin Burley defeated Paul Sheridan, Vic Hebblewhite, Mathew Higgins 27-16, Robbie Bowden, Stacey Groves, John Andrews defeated James Davison, George Wisemantel, Steven Higgins ...23-17, Col Beattie, Kevin Everett defeated Terry Higgins, Tony Tersteeg 27-22 and Alex Laurie, Peter Jones, Lu Urby defeated Chris Pritchard, Wayne Groves, Gary Spokes 15-14. MIXED PAIRS The first round of the mixed pairs was played on Saturday in tricky conditions and, although Allen Rose and Bev Murray collected a maximum eight shots on the eighteenth end, still could not get over Don Meheiloff and Del Buckton who won 21-18, George Wisemantel and Di Lockwood were down thirteen one after eight ends, but scrambled back to defeat Paula Standen and Chris Pritchard "who must be a contender for the most improved trophy" 22-15, John Andrews and Jenny Burley picked up some high scoring ends to defeat Bob and Jan Jones 38-11, Kevin and Jill Everett had a close tussle with Lu Urby and Di Pritchard, but came home strong winning 25-20, but the 2019 champions, Mike and Judy Sheely, stumbled at the first hurdle and were defeated by Aaron Kelly and Kerrie Green 27-14, Bruce Wilson and Katherine Stuckings combined to defeat Peter Jones and Aunty Bev Germon 21-14. Sunday morning in glorious sunshine the second round was contested with John Andrews and Jenny Burley continuing on their winning form defeating Aaron Kelly and Kerrie Green 26-11, Kevin Burley and Joan Ridgeway had a nail biter, scoring five shots on the last two ends, to defeat Bruce Wilson and Katherine Stuckings 27-23, Terry Davies, Patty West came from behind to defeat Pat Cox, Graham Turnbull 21-17, Nico Duynhoven and Jean Holstein proved too strong for Hoppy Heininger and June Carter winning 28-14, George Wisemantel was propped up by Di Lockwood to defeat Don Meheiloff, who was also propped up by Del Buckton, 26-17 and super coach Brian Holstein combined with the slow and steady Lorraine Ratcliffe to narrowly defeat Alex Laurie and Ruth Redman 17-14. The quarter finals will be contested Saturday, 17th, at 1.00 pm followed by the semi finals on Sunday, 18th, at 9.30 am. Our local legend Jason Casidy contested the zone single championships, which is a preview to the State singles championships, and won his first two matches but unfortunately lost to Martin Gosper in the third round - well done Jason against some hot competitors.

16.01.2022 Minor Singles Championship Final Today was the final of the Ladies Minor Singles between Lorraine Ratcliffe and Jenny Burley. It was a very close fought game with either player looking as though they were going to win but, with the score at 24-23 to Lorraine, she just managed to edge out Jenny and win 25-23. Well done to both players in getting to the final.

16.01.2022 Mixed Fours Championships On Saturday the semi finals of the mixed fours championship resulted in a nail biting finish for the John Andrews, Joan Ridgeway, Mike and Judy Sheely team with John gaining two shots on the last end to sneak home 25-24 over Lu Urby, Del Buckton, Di and Chris Pritchard and in the other semi, Jason Cassidy, George Wisemantel, Di Lockwood, Pauline Hall jumped out of the gates early and led 14-5 at the halfway mark to run out winners 27-13 over Steve Br...own, Nico Duynhoven, Cheryl West, Jenny Burley. This set up a final clash on Sunday between Jason Cassidy, George Wisemantel, Di Lockwood and Pauline Hall and John Andrews, Joan Ridgeway, Mike and Judy Sheely, with the Andrews side winning the first six ends to take a 7-0 lead before the big match nerves settled and the Cassidy team started to become competitive to be only one shot down at the halfway mark. From here they only conceded four shots in the last ten ends to run out comfortable winners 21-14. Pauline Hall may have created a new club record winning a championship after only playing three games of bowls and more than held her own throughout the tournament against her much experienced opponents. The Mixed Pairs entries close on 1 October with the first round being played on 10 October and Hebby's Day is set down for 24 October which will be a fours tournament again.

16.01.2022 MEN'S BOWLS Thursday bowls saw the upset of the season when Steven Higgins and Vic Hebblewhite took on the legend Jason Cassidy and the Shire import Ken Bryant, with the latter winning the first two ends but it was all downhill from there, with Steven and Vic taking the match 24-11, Kevin Everett, Andrew Henderson and Robbie Bowden had a big win over Kevin Burley, Mike Sheely and Steve Kriss 23-12, Bob Jones, Don Meheiloff and Jim McIntosh narrowly defeated Brian Holstein, Ro...b Gibson and Alex Laurie 19-17, John Andrews, George Wisemantel and Graham Holstein defeated Lu Urby, Stephen Hurworth and Terry Davies 18-15 and Robert Hayes and Terry Higgins collected a seven and a six on their way to a 25-23 win over Neville Atkins and Col Beattie. In round two of the Minor Singles, Andrew Henderson was on fire defeating Alex Laurie 32-8, Mike Sheely proved too consistent for Col Beattie winning 31-21, Terry Higgins won the last four ends to defeat Luke Doyle 31-24 and Gary Moss proved too strong for Bob Jones taking the game 31-18. In the semi finals, Gary Moss and Terry Higgins had a nail biter finish after Terry led 30-29 on the last end, but Gary sneaked two shots to take the game 31-30 and in the remaining match Mike Sheely edged out Andrew Henderson 30-27 to set up an interesting final between Mike Sheely and Gary Moss next Sunday, when the sparrows wake to decide the Minor Singles champion for 2020.

The first round of the Mixed Fours were contested over the weekend with Saturday's fixtures providing easy victories for the two winning teams. The remaining games were played on Sunday morning in showery conditions with the two previous singles champions John Andrews, Joan Ridgeway combining with Mike and Judy Sheely to grind out a 25-23 victory over Bruce Wilson, Brian (super coach) Holstein, Lorraine Ratcliffe and Catherine Stuckings, Lu Urby's pep talk during the week worked wonders for his team of Del Buckton, Di and Chris Pritchard who led at the halfway mark and never looked like surrendering to run out comfortable winners over Neville Atkins, Don Meheiloff, Ruth Redman, Colleen Atkins 28-19 and the two winners from Saturday's games clashed with Steve Brown, Nico Duynhoven, Cheryl West, Jenny Burley jumping to a big lead early over Kevin Everett, Kevin Burley, Jill Everett, Bev Germon and never lifted the pedal to run out winners 27-14 and in the remaining game "love was in the air" with the all round family affair of Steve and Joy Hurworth and Steve and Julie Kriss taking on Di Lockwood and Pauline Hall (playing her first ever competition game) combining with their toy boys George and Jason and the match was in the balance at end eighteen with Steve Hurworth playing great draw bowls to keep his side in touch but the Cassidy experience showed when it mattered steering his side to a 21-12 victory. The semi finals will be played Saturday at 1 pm with Lu Urby's team taking on the John Andrews skipped side and sledging will be on the cards in the other match with Steve Brown and Jason Cassidy hassling each other for a spot in the final which will be played at 9.30 Sunday. The Mixed Pairs entry form is on the board with the first round scheduled for 10th and 11th October and, if you don't have a partner, single entries are accepted.

12.01.2022 Men’s Thursday Bowls Thursday bowls had a field of thirty four players with five triples and one pairs game and the pairing of Graham Turnbull returning to top form with Rob Gibson taking the Jack High restaurant vouchers smashing Kevin Burley and Brian Holstein 28-8, Gordon Pritchard, Robert Hayes, Chris Pritchard def Terry Higgins, Wayne Groves, Luke Doyle 20-13, Vic Hebblewhite (the underrated skip) teamed with Steven Higgins, John West to def Kevin Everett, Tony Tersteeg,... Col Beattie 21-15, John Andrews, playing mat tactics, combined with Mark Tull, James Davison to def Peter Jones, Nico Duynhoven, Steve Kriss 21-14, Mathew Higgins, Rob Heininger, Peter Bignall def Steve Hurworth, Mike Sheely, Don Meheiloff 19-15 and in a low scoring encounter Gary Spokes played a great draw shot on the last bowl of the day for his team of Neville Atkins, Alex Laurie to def Lu Urby, George Wisemantel, Paul Sheridan 21-20. Saturday’s Mixed Fours semi final will commence at 1 pm and the winners will advance to the final on Sunday at 9.30 am. Entries close for the Mixed Pairs on 1 October, but entry fees must be paid prior to the draw being completed.

07.01.2022 Thursday bowls was a return to form for Lu Urby and Peter Sansom who never let their opponents Steve Brown and James Davison get into the game, winning the Jack High restaurant voucher by 27-8, welcome back to Clive Redman who played great bowls following his rebore to combine with Vic Hebblewhite to defeat George Wisemantel and Rob Gibson 25-13, Steven Hurworth, Don Mehieloff and Chris Pritchard defeated Gary Spokes, Terry Higgins and Alex Laurie 25-18, Kevin Burley, Graham ...Turnbull and Jim McIntosh defeated Brian Holstein, John West and Gary Moss 23-12 and Tony Tersteeg, Gordon Pritchard and Steve Kriss defeated Robert Hayes, Col Beattie and Robbie Bowden 20-16. Saturday mixed bowls consisted of two pairs and one triples match with John Andrews, Bev Murray and Bev Germon proving too strong for Lu Urby, Graham Turnbull "celebrating one of his multiple birth anniversaries" and Pattie West winning 21-14, Don Mehieloff and Neville Atkins had a close tussle with Kevin and Jill Everett with THE DON getting the upper hand to win 23-20 and George Wisemantel and Di Pritchard defeating Chris Pritchard and Di Lockwood 24-10. The first round of the mixed pairs championship will be played at 1.00 pm Saturday 10th October with five matches drawn and the remainder will be played Sunday at 9.30 am. The entry form is on the board for the 43rd Hebby's Day on 24th October, with entries closing on the 20th and this will be a men's fours tournament again.

04.01.2022 Ladies Minor Singles The weather is starting to warm up and we are finally getting towards the end of all our championships. On Wednesday, the semi-finals of the Minor Singles was played with Jenny Burley having a win over Joy Hurworth 25-10 and Lorraine Ratcliffe defeating Di Lockwood 25-11. On Wednesday, 14 October, the final of the Minor Singles will be played between Jenny Burley and Lorraine Ratcliffe good luck to you both.... Yesterday there were also three social games with the following results: Del Buckton and Judy Sheely defeated Di Pritchard and Norma Relf (17-16) it was a very close game all the way through where either side could have won. Joan Ridgeway, Colleen Atkins and Jenny Stevens (swinger) defeated Bev Murray, Pattie West and Jenny Stevens (21-8) and Jill Everett, Vera Whatmore and Denise Redman defeated Bev Germon, Kerrie Green and Jan Jones (26-13). The monthly spider was won by Colleen Atkins. Next week will see the start of the Consistency Singles with three matches taking place between Jean Holstein and Val Pritchard, Bev Murray and Ruth Redman and Pattie West and Jan Jones. The Mixed Pairs start this weekend, so if you have a chance do come down and watch what should be some exciting games Saturday, 1.30 pm and Sunday, 9.30 pm.
