22.01.2022 Welcome to Open Day 2020! Normally, we would launch our Open Day with the very special kids at Westmead Children Hospital Burns Unit. We were unable to do that ...this year, but we did take them on a virtual tour through our busiest fire station Fire and Rescue NSW Station 001 City of Sydney which you can watch in the video below. We'd love to share some good wishes with the kids, so leave a comment below and we will pass it on! Open Day has always been our most popular day on the calendar and for good reason. By opening our station doors every year and inviting you in, it gives us a chance to chat about who we are and what we do here at Fire and Rescue NSW. This year we’ve had to rethink the traditional and do things a little differently so while we couldn’t open the station doors to you, we are doing the next best thing and bringing the station to you! So, thanks for joining us, and we hope to see you and speak with you throughout the next week! #FRNSWOpenDay2020 #PreparedForAnything #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire

15.01.2022 At last week's station drill, 3 of our firefighters were acknowledged and recognised for their long and diligent service to the community. Station Commander Ear...l Sharman was awarded with the third clasp to the #National Medal, recognising 45 years of diligent service. Deputy Captain Vince Davy was awarded with the second clasp of the #FRNSW Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, recognising 30 years service to the community. Firefighter Troy Adams (Troggsy) was awarded with the #FRNSW Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, 10 years service. It is fitting to be able to recognise the commitment and dedication for their long service that's shown by all our firefighters to the community and surroundings of Glen Innes. #longservice #goodconduct #medals #firefighters #FRNSW #thankyou

15.01.2022 There has been a lot of interest in the strange red box that appeared at the fire in #Camden last night. Fire fighters are exposed to lots of toxins during fire... fighting operations. These are linked to the increase risk of cancer. Fire and Rescue works hard to provide a safe working environment for its staff. The Fire Duty Module is a portable wash facility to allow fire fighters to wash their hands and faces as the first step to reduce their exposure. The module incorporates a small air conditioned mess room where fire fighters can rehabilitate and rehydrate before re entering the fire ground. This module is transported by a hook truck driven by out team of Fleet Transport Drivers.

14.01.2022 **A message from Commissioner Paul Baxter** It is with great sadness that I announce the death of Fire and Rescue NSW’s first commissioner, Commissioner Ian Mac...Dougall, AFSM, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82. Ian joined Fire and Rescue NSW in 1994 after a long career with the Royal Australian Navy. Ian rose through the ranks of the Navy achieving rank of Vice Admiral before stepping into the Commissioner’s role. He spent almost 10 years with FRNSW and was able to modernise the department by upgrading our communications and technology to ensure we were equipped for the future. During his time at FRNSW, Ian was appointed President of the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council. Ian will be dearly missed by everyone at FRNSW and we extend our condolences to all his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

13.01.2022 Last week marked the beginning of a roll out of new and improved uniforms for Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters across the state. The new personal protect...ive clothing has been specially designed to offer maximum comfort and protection for firefighters working to protect the irreplaceable. While heavy-duty, the uniforms are light weight and will allow for enhanced maneuverability and coverage. They will also be supplied in a wider range of male and female sizes to ensure all firefighters have better fitting garments. This is the first stage of the roll out which will eventually see the replacement of all personal protective clothing for all firefighters across the state. Watch the video below for more information from Commissioner Paul Baxter. #FRNSW #ProtectTheIrreplaceable #MoreThanFire #PreparedForAnything

08.01.2022 #FLASHBACKFRIDAY Earlier in the week we received an email from a family searching for information to identify the man in this photo. The family had passed down ...the photo through generations but were never sure who was in it. A few emails and some deep diving into historical records revealed it was a photo of a retired firefighter William Long. It is believed this photo was taken in either 1916 or 1917 where Firefighter Long worked in Fire and Rescue NSW Station 001 City of Sydney before transferring to Stanmore Fire Station. A mystery of almost 100 years finally solved! #MoreThanFire #PreparedForAnything

04.01.2022 Today at 11:45 hrs Firies from 375 Manilla were called to a man collapsed at the Iocal IGA supermarket. NSW Ambulance was dispatched from Tamworth (35kms away).... Quick thinking by Firefighter Jodie Sing who works st IGA resulted in a great outcome for the patient. Jodie sent a bystander to fetch a defibrillator from the nearby chemist and commenced CPR immediately. Jodie then activated the defibrillator and brought the man back to life. When her crew arrived Captain Ted Taylor said the man was conscious and breathing and able to talk. Firies administered oxygen until the AMBO’s arrived and transported the man to hospital. Well done Jodie and 375 crew. The community are rightly proud of your actions. #preparedforanything

02.01.2022 Campbelltown Firefighter Peter Jensen had never seen an Aboriginal firefighter until he became one. We’ve started to lay the platform for Aboriginal people seeing firefighting as a career option. #MoreThanFire #OurPeople #CultureAndInclusion #NRW2020
