24.01.2022 ANTIOXIDANTS What are they and why are they important? Free radicals damage happens throughout the body, but is most noticeable on the skin. It can come in the form of pre-mature ageing as its most harmless form. While causing a lot of damage it is important that we try to combat this by using antioxidants in our skincare and internally in our diet. ... DIET High coloured fruits and vegetables (berries & eggplants) Anthocyanins Orange coloured fruits and vegetables (carrots & pumpkins & mangos) Beta-Carotene Green fruits and vegetables (broccoli & spinach) SKINCARE Vitamins (A, C & E) Co-Enzyme Q10 Polyphenols These will balance out free radicals roaming around in the body and help fight those pre-mature ageing pathways #antioxidants #freeradicals #vitamins #prematureageing #skin #skinadvice #skinknowledge #skintherapist

24.01.2022 LASERS Lasers are a highly targeted skin treatment that are usually aimed at ONE commodity in the skin. 1 Pigment 2 Blood ... Lasers use different wavelengths to penetrate to different places in the skin to yield specific results such as Hair Reduction Pigment Reduction Vascular Reduction NOTE: I use the word reduction because the body really likes to fight back and re-produce things later (hormones control these things and we all know that we can’t control them) Lasers are quite an advanced treatment so always talk to your skin therapist to see if they are suitable for you. My all time FAVOURITE skin treatment for perfect looking skin pre-wedding style is Laser Genesis from the laser brand Cutera the benefits of this treatment are with no down time and glowing skin! #lasers #skintherapist #dermaltherapies #beautytherapist #skintreatments #skinadvice #targetedtreatments #lasergenesis #cutera #genesis #glowingskin

Understanding these rays will better help PROTECT you from 1 Skin cancers 2 Pre-Mature Ageing 3 Pigmentation Look for a BROAD SPECTRUM sunscreen to protect yourself from both rays and reapply every 2 hours #sunsafe #sunrays #protectyourskin #skintherapist #beautytherapist #dermaltherapies #uvdamage

17.01.2022 SKIN TYPES Do you know your skin type? There are 4 basic skin types 1 Normal Skin 2 Dry Skin... 3 Oily Skin 4 Combination Skin The skin industry has moved away from boxing you into specific skin typing (thank god!) but it’s still important to know what your skin type is for a basic of choosing products or talking to your skin therapist about what products might be right for you. On top of skin types there are then skin conditions which is what happens as we go through adolescence, young adult hood, pregnancy, menopause, older adult age groups and everything in between changes the type of your skin through oil changes. #skintype #skintyping #normalskin #oilyskin #dryskin #combinationskin #agerelatedskinchanges #skintherapist #dermaltherapies #beautytherapist #knowyourskintype

09.01.2022 PHYSICAL vs. CHEMICAL These two types of sun protection are the two types you will come across weather you realise it or not. PHYSICAL ... Sits within the surface layers of the skin and bounces most of the light rays off. Ingredients; Zinc Oxide Titanium Dioxide Safe for a more sensitive, sensitised or a skin going through a course of treatments with a compromised barrier. CHEMICAL Absorbs light rays and disperses them in the skin. Ingredients; Oxybenzone Avobenzone Octisalate Octocrylene Homosalate Octinoxate Safe for any normal skin type. Not suitable for sensitive skins. WARNING: due to the light rays being absorbed, the energy must do something in the skin, so it turns to heat which can cause free radicals (post coming about this). HOWEVER, most sunscreens by reputable brands have ingredients which combat the free radicals damage caused by not only the sun but by the heat. Antioxidants, Vitamin C & E are great ingredients to ensure are in your sunscreen to help boost Sun Factor as well as fight free radical damage. My favourite sunscreens PHYSICALS 1. Medik8 Physical Sunscreen 2. Mother SPF 3. Dermalogica Invisible Physical Defence CHEMCIAL 1. We are feel good inc 2. Ultra-Violet 3. Alpha-H Daly Essential Moisturiser 50+ SIDE NOTE: A lot of brands also opt to put BOTH types of protection in for maximum efficacy which is LOVE #sunscreen #spf #physicalsunscreen #chemicalsunscreen #sunportection #favourtirespf #skin #skinprotection #skinfacts #skinknowledge #choosingasunscreen

08.01.2022 SUN RAY DEPTH The sun has 3 rays it emits 1UVA 2UVB... 3UVC UVA the ageing ray it affects the deepest layers of your skin and breakdown collagen, elastin and has major long term damage to your ageing process. UVB the burning ray it affects the top layers of the skin causing sunburn that immediate sign you’ve had wayyyyy too much sun (yes burn means you’ve over done it). Changes cells in the top layers of the skin and causes cancers. UVC is the most harmful ray and can change DNA cells, but lucky for us the ozone layer keeps its out of the atmosphere so it can’t affect us. #sunrays #skindepth #dermaltherapies #skintherapist #beautytherapist #uv #uva #uvb #uvc #protectyourskin #skinadvice #skin

05.01.2022 SKIN TYPES How to figure out your skin type (without a therapist). 1 Wash your face with a gentle cleanser ... 2 Apply NOTHING 3 Return to the mirror in ONE HOUR 4 Gently feel your skin (all over) SLICK/SLIPPERY = Oily skin ROUGH/BUMPY = Dry skin SOFT = Normal skin (lucky you!) ANY COMBINATION OF THE ABOVE = Combination skin This will help you when explaining to your local skin clinic what you may be looking for in a product to do after you’ve explained your main concerns on the skin (ageing/acne/pigmentation/redness). #skintypes #whatsyourskintype #figureoutyourskintype #betterskincare #skincare #skinadvice #skintherapist #dermaltherapist #beautytherapist #skineducation
