20.01.2022 We now live in a world where sedentary, desk based jobs form the highest percentage of work environments Here are a few tips to try and get you moving more 1) Reminders:Set an alarm on your phone or watch to trigger you to move after 20-30 minutes This does not need to be a long walk. Getting up to move around the office or simply standing to do a few stretches will help.2) Incidental moving - Put things deliberately out of reach - Move printers, copiers, wa...ter bottles etc out of reach so you have to physically move to get to them. 3) Use a small water bottle: This will encourage you to get up to fill it more often. 4) Get UP and MOVE during your lunch break: Get a change of scenery, this is good both physically and mentally. It is important to have a separate area for downtime and relaxing.5) Stretch regularly: Try to get into a habit of stretching every 20-30 minutes in sitting/standing , even if you do not feel you have to. Prevention is better than a cure. 6) Engage in exercise: Exercise has been shown time and time again to reduce risk of injury, improve mood and productivity, help to maintain weight and improve our strength and cardiovascular fitness 7) Good desk set-up: I agree that we should all have an ergonomically sound desk set up. However, this does not mean that you can extend the time you spend sitting. Even the worlds best and most expensive chair will not prevent back pain in someone who sits in it 6 hours straight every day! Even if your posture is perfect but unchanging, it will create minor repetitive strain to the muscles, joints, discs and nerves that are doing all the work to hold you upright. For this same reason, sit-stand desks are only as good as how you use them. You could argue that your best posture is always the one that is coming next. Changing your position regularly is one of the best strategies to limit repetitive strain of the body and the chronicmusculoskeletal problems that come with the#desklife. Yes, it is important to find your perfect posture during times of intense work but it is just as important to give those same postural muscles a break from time to time.

17.01.2022 At Glow we have special pregnancy pillows which allow pregnant women to lay on their stomach so we can treat them safely and comfortably! Did you know that 50% of women experience significant levels of back or pelvic pain during pregnancy. Research has shown that chiropractic care may help relieve these symptoms in up to 85% of pregnant woman. The research also showed that on average, pregnant woman who are under chiropractic care, had a24% reductionin length of labour tim...e in first births and up to 33% for subsequent births The hormone ‘Relaxin’ peaks at 14 weeks gestation which means your pelvic ligaments will start to relax and change the shape of your pelvis in order for your baby to grow and develop. Your pelvis starts to shift in preparation for delivery and you may start leaning backward to a certain extent when walking or standing. This places additional pressure on your pelvis, joints and ligaments causing the pain and discomfort. If your pelvic joints are rotated or one side is a bit restricted this can cause increased levels of discomfort throughout your pregnancy. When the joint is restricted, it indicates that the other surrounding joints and soft tissue need to work a lot harder, creating problems in other parts of your body. This creates imbalances within the pelvis and an unbalanced pelvis can change the shape of the pelvic outlet. The Pelvic outlet is where yourbaby sits when it’s time to push, so if it is unbalanced it can affect the child’s fetal position. This is because, when the mother’s sacrum is restricted or displaced, the diameter of the pelvis is reduced, which prevents the baby from comfortably getting into the best position for delivery. This is why it is so important to try and maintain good spinal function and a balanced pelvis before and during your pregnancy If the mother’s body has imbalances this can lead to constraints that can interfere with the baby’s presentation and natural delivery. Likewise, if these joints are moving correctly, it can help the baby get into the optimal birth position #pregnancy #chiropractor #optimalbirthpositioning #health #bellypillow #wellbeing

16.01.2022 Don’t Chiro’s just treat the spine? This is a question I get all the time in practice, at sporting events, seminars and even friends/families. As chiropractors we get trained to treat the whole body including nutrition, lifestyle modification, performance based therapies, soft tissue work, strapping, rehabilitation, extremity injuries such as wrist, ankle, shoulder etc. ... We refer to the spine as the foundation, for it houses the nervous system which controls everything in your body. However, if you have a specific shoulder problem, it might have been in a state of compensation for a long time and therefore the muscles , joint patterns and communication to the might have changed/adapted. Because of this we have to treat the local tissue as well. Here I am using KT tape to assist the proprioceptors in telling the where the shoulder is so it can create new and improved movement patterns. At Glow we specifically look at treating the underlying issue not just managing your symptoms. So even if it is a sprained ankle, wrist, shoulder, hip etc issue we can have a look at it. 08.01.2022 Here are 5 of the most common myths about pain: You should rest or stop activity if you are experiencing pain for long periods of time (3 months or more) The spine is delicate and easily injured... Pain always means something is injured The absence of pain means there is no dysfunction Pain killers are fixing the cause of the pain #chiropractic #myths #health #healthylifestyle #pain #chronicpain #musculoskeletal #chiropractor #glowhealthco #ascot #brisbane #sport #function #stability #wellness #painmanagement

03.01.2022 Okay, now that little Miss M has captured your attention with her cuteness, lets talk about the importance of a symmetrical head shape ....and no it is not just about the aesthetic appearance. Think about the skull .....now think about what is housed in the skull - brain , eye sockets , sinus’ , ear canals , jaw and it also creates the spaces to allow for nerves to travel through to other areas of our body and back to the brain Plagiocephaly is a non-specific t...erm often used to denote an asymmetric and oblique deformity of the head. This generally comes as a decrease in head rotation to one side causing increased external force being consistently applied to a specific region of a baby’s head over an extended period of time. An infant should be able to rotate their head so that their cheek is touching the table/floor WITHOUT the opposite shoulder raising off the floor or the pelvis twisting. More and more research is showing an increase in the incidence of developmental delays in children with Plagiocephaly . Early intervention has been associated with reduced treatment duration and improved cosmetic and neurodevelopmental outcomes. The best changes are made within the first 4 months of life but can still be addressed after this time. What can you look out for? Head favouring to one side Feeding better off one breast Flattening at the back or side of the skull Forehead prominence on the same side as the flattening. Ears are a different height or one sitting further forward than the other. If you have noticed any of the above, a Chiropractic evaluation may be warranted. Chiropractic care for infants is gentle, precise and helps to restore balance. #chiropractor #chiropractic #baby #paediatrics #plagiocephaly #headshape #milestones #neurodevelopment #brisbane #glowhealthco
