25.01.2022 This morning 3 three of our members, along with members of neighbouring Blaxland and Mt Riverview brigades assisted Blue Mountains Police Rescue and Paramedics. Yesterday afternoon a local bushwalker was unfortunately injured near the Florabella Pass walk in Blaxland. By the time paramedics were on scene yesterday, it was too late for helicopter extraction. Paramedics stayed with the man overnight until he could be winched out by the Toll Ambulance Rescue helicopter this mor...ning. Local RFS volunteers and Police rescue carried the man to the helicopter winch point early this morning. *The patient has been removed from the winch photo for their privacy and we all hope for a speedy recovery.
25.01.2022 Please help us to welcome the most recent addition to our brigade. Our COVID crew completed their final assessment over the last weekend, their training has taken slightly longer than usual due to the current restrictions. We are very glad to have them join our dedicated and resilient team adapting to a very modified training method. Pictured below are our newest members: Stuart, Paul, Michael, Albany, Lachlan, Benjamin and Ossie. ... Congratulations everyone.
24.01.2022 Please remember that Leaving Early and being well prepared is the safest option on days of Severe fire danger. Head to https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au//fdr-and-t/total-fire-ban-rules for Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) rules tomorrow.
24.01.2022 Please be advised that NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) with the assistance of NSW Rural Fire Service(RFS) will be conducting a number of planned Hazard Reduction (HR) burns that will impact our area. Weather permitting these burns will be taking place over the coming days and into the weekend. The most notable are the Kanuka Brook and Nepean Narrows North burns. For more information see the NSW RFS ‘Hazard Reduction’ page (link below). These planned burns wil...l produce smoke that may be smelt and seen from a distance, please call Triple 0 if you see an unattended fire. As this smoke will be in the area for a number of days those suffering from respiratory issues are recommended to: - reduce outdoor activity, - spend time in air conditioned venues, - close windows and doors, - Follow your Asthma Management Plan. For more information see: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//Pa/bushfire-protection.aspx Members of the public are asked to avoid the area where burning will be taking place and there are various NPWS park closures. The Woodford-Oaks, Red Hands Cave, Nepean Lookout and Pisgah ridge trails will be closed until at least Saturday. For more information see: https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au//blue-mo/local-alerts Hazard Reductions are conducted by land managers and fire agencies to reduce the risk of bushfires by limiting the fuel loads available. By planning burns and having burn cycles the ecosystem is less likely to be decimated by wildfire. Planning also creates a space unaffected by fire used as a refuge for animals additionally many native plant species need a consistent fire regime to germinate. Please direct all enquiries to Blue Mountains District office on (02) 4784 7444. For more information on HR’s see: https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-informati/hazard-reductions

20.01.2022 Yesterday our brigade was honoured to be presented with a $10,000 cheque from the Glenbrook Panthers. Funds were raised during the fire season by the Panthers Group and football players. We would again like to thank our community for being so generous.
15.01.2022 PREPARING YOUR HOME Getting ready for a bush fire may be easier than you think. The top five things to do: 1. TRIM overhanging branches. 2. MOW your grass and have a cleared area around your home.... 3. REMOVE materials that can burn around your home. 4. CLEAR and remove leaves and debris from your gutters and around your home. 5. PREPARE a sturdy hose that reaches all around your home. Get more top tips at www.myfireplan.com.au
15.01.2022 Whilst we hope that the weather remains this moist, we are still getting ready and honing our skills for the fire season. Recently we have been able to conduct a broad range of brigade training from AED/CPR training to local area familiarisation. Two weeks ago, one of our members taught us how to use the AED’s fitted on all of our trucks. This is his day job and we are very thankful to have a diverse range of expertise in our brigade. ... We were training our newer members in navigation and our local area. Yesterday, you may have seen a few fire trucks driving around town for a radio and navigation exercise.
14.01.2022 We would like to congratulate the 12 members who passed their Basic Firefighter assessment this morning from Blaxland, Mt Riverview and Glenbrook/ Lapstone. All were deemed competent and ready to serve and protect our communities as firefighters. As the 2020-21 fire season is only weeks away, this is a great addition to our team. You may recognise our two newly qualified members, Brendan and Gina. ... Brendan and Gina have been our local pharmacists for over 20 years. Brendan has ridden hundreds of kilometres for charity, serviced our community for over 25years professionally, Gina has supported him the entire way and now they have found the time to volunteer with us. Brendan has told us that he found the training and assessment quite professional. He is also looking forward to the community service. Congratulations and we look forward to working with you all!
13.01.2022 This year Fire and Rescue NSW Glenbrook 301 will be escorting Santa through Glenbrook on Sunday 20th December. They have been liaising with the elves and have devised a map of where Santa will be traveling. At this stage we are unsure of what time the Santa run will be starting. For more up to date information on when Santa will be arriving in Glenbrook check out their Facebook page at Fire & Rescue NSW Station 301 Glenbrook.
13.01.2022 Being a volunteer firefighter it is important to retrain and refresh our skills. Tonight we are conducting the theory component for our hydraulics training tomorrow morning. Mentorship is an important aspect of our training regime. We often utilise the resident knowledge to give context to our newer members. This can include fire history, tips and tricks, four wheel driving, navigation, hydraulic systems and more.
