24.01.2022 Are you swimming in lids that can't go into your recycling bin? Well, here's a solution for you! Lids for Kids is collecting plastic lids to turn into products to assist local children, particularly those with disabilities. Examples of lids are those from milk, juice, water and cool drink bottles, as per the picture below. Please ensure the lids are clean, colour sorted and the plastic inserts are removed. Have a Go News (137 Edward St, Perth) is a drop off point for lids, Mon-Friday, 9am - 5pm.
24.01.2022 As there's currently no community transmission in WA, the Fremantle Chamber Orchestra has scheduled some events at 1) The Basilica of St Patricks, which is large and can accommodate social distancing very easily, and 2) the somewhat smaller Redemptorist Monastery, which has kindly offered to extend the area for listeners so the audience can observe social distancing there too. In event of a COVID-19 outbreak, the orchestra may have to cancel the concerts. So please check in on 11th October. Please note that tickets purchased via Ticketek do incur a $5 cancellation fee.
23.01.2022 Glyde-In has been supporting the Freo Amnesty/CARAD Pantry Project for quite sometime and have been thrilled with the generous response from our members. As Christmas approaches, CARAD will make two more collections from Glyde-In (on 4 and 11 December), so do please keep the goodies rolling in. Thanks
23.01.2022 Our fabulous Glyde-In groups are back and having great fun this term: Book Club, MahJong, Scrabble, Cycling, Walkers and, of course, our Glyde-In Singers with Digby Hill (even though they're currently meeting off-site). The Thursday MahJong group enjoyed some fun (and games) for Halloween last week. Love those quilts, Maureen! #glydein #funineastfreo #community
21.01.2022 From 1 October we can recycle your empty drink containers and collect cash as part of the new state-wide container deposit scheme that aims to reduce litter & landfill, increase recycling, create jobs and provide benefits for community organisations. For more information on the process and ways to access the scheme, visit Containers for Change at https://www.containersforchange.com.au/wa/
20.01.2022 A most successful AGM on Tuesday afternoon. The East Fremantle Bowling Club is a delightful venue and our members had a very enjoyable afternoon getting reacquainted with one another, meeting our new Coordinator and welcoming the 2020/21 Management Committee on board. Many thanks to Mihaela from Linkwest for coming along to act as Returning Officer and to add her special sparkle to the event :)

18.01.2022 Feeling sad, troubled, out of sorts? Like someone to talk to? Sometimes getting things off your chest can help you feel lighter. She is impartial, respects your confidentiality and helps you develop insights on how to overcome a difficult situation. Sessions are individual and FREE. One of four Saturdays, 10.30 - 11.15am. To book, please ring the office on 93393964.
18.01.2022 Please note that, in the best interest of all users, Glyde-In will be closed for ALL activities 8 14 Feb. This includes programmed events, room hire and other activities. Where possible we will try to reschedule events and/or will issue credits/refunds where this is not possible. NOTE 1: The office will be open all week, but only via the phone and email. NOTE 2: Pending lifting of restrictions on 14 Feb, we aim to operate as per our published Term 1 Programme from Monday, 15 Feb. We look forward to seeing you back soon and to admiring your masks when you come in (if they are still required).
17.01.2022 Can you help? Sandra needs jars...

16.01.2022 October is Bike Month, WA’s annual celebration of bike riding, which aims to promote and encourage people of all ages and abilities to ride bikes for transport, fun and/or for a healthier lifestyle. It's great to know that Glyde-In members will be out there (as always) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, using pedal power to keep fit and enjoy the outdoors. For more info on Bike Month - and on the photo competitions - see https://westcycle.org.au/wabikemonth/

14.01.2022 Last week we put a call out to the Glyde-In community for some essential supplies for people in need. The response was immediate and generous, as always. Here's what the CARAD representative will be collecting this morning. A huge thank you to everyone who dropped things off during the week and for all the supportive messages Glyde-In will continue to collect non-perishable essentials for CARAD over the coming weeks. Although office hours are variable until the end of September, there is usually someone on-site Mon - Wed, 8am - 1pm.
14.01.2022 Schools are reopening today, folks, so please remember the 40km zones are back in place and keep an eye out.
14.01.2022 A shout out to Spring Hill Orchard in Roleystone for their kind donation of 5kg of beautiful nectarines for our jam-making group. Chief 'jam tart' Liz picked the fruit up from Glyde-In Community Centre this morning and the jam will be available early next week. So do give us a ring if you'd like to pre-order, or pop in next week to pick up a jar (or two!).
12.01.2022 Mindfulness and positive psychology are hugely powerful, not only to cope but to feel more in control, calm and content. Explore a little of the theory in a light-hearted and sharing way, then move on to some practices that will help us feel more accepting and comfortable in our own skin. All you need is a cushion and an open, curious mind! 2 Saturdays, 28 November and 5 December, 12.30 - 3pm with Jane Morton-Zumbuhl. Bookings open on 93393964 or online at https://glydein.org.au/programme
12.01.2022 Masks on this week, folks. Some useful info here: https://tinyurl.com/yv8joaax
11.01.2022 Have you ever tried making (and using) beeswax wraps? Great fun, if somewhat messy. You can revive ones you've made in the past very simply too - and continue to use them instead of plastic wrap.

06.01.2022 Today we said a sad goodbye to the beautiful grevillea in our front garden. The wild winds over the weekend broke the tree off at its base, so we had no alternative. Gordon and Jono - thank you for stepping in to resolve the problem so smoothly; and Jan, thanks for keeping an eye on things as they unfolded. We look forward to seeing what the garden group decides to plant in the gap that's been created.
05.01.2022 Great to have the Glyde-In Community Quilters back at the Centre this week. They had a very productive morning, with lots of laughter, chatting, sewing and scones! Next meeting is on Monday 26 October.

02.01.2022 Many people reject any form of religion, for a variety of reasons. However, there is another form of religious experience which is unmediated by churches and religious texts or authorities often referred to simply as spirituality. Join Ruperto Nunez to explore this elusive concept and try to make sense of our own spiritual experiences. 5 Fridays, starting 13 November, 3.30 - 5.30pm. Ring 93393964 to book or go online at https://glydein.org.au/programme #philosphy #glydein #spirituality
