Chemical farming and oversaturation of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) are the culprits, where we now use genetic engineering and gene editing technologies to improve the delivery of harmful chemicals into our food production systems. The most widely used commercial pesticide is an herbicide called Roundup. It’s active ingredient, glyphosate, inhibits soil, plants, bacteria, and fungi from producing several essential amino acids, while simultaneously deleting the production of alkaloids the natural medicinal features in our food produced by plants. Globally, we use 4.5 billion pounds of Roundup each year, yet statistics show less than 0.1% of it actually hits a weed. Since glyphosate is a water-soluble toxin, the other 99.99% infiltrates nearly everywhere across the Earth’s ecosystem, including our soil and running water. Essentially, we’ve been drinking Roundup since the 1990s. Within the US, the Mississippi River alone collects more than 80% of the entire country’s Roundup. It’s no surprise that the last 90 miles of the river are called Cancer Alley, seeing the highest rates of cancer in the entire developed world. For the sake of our loved ones, our children, and our grandchildren, we must put an end to this.
