21.01.2022 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL KINDERGARTEN DAY! Today is international Kindergarten Day, which celebrates the birthday of Friedrich Froebe who was born in 1782 and started the first kindergarten in 1837, in Germany. Despite being popular in Germany, the Prussian government outlawed the schools in 1851. Froebe died a year later and it wasnt until 1860 that the Prussians relented and allowed the schools to continue. 1873 saw the first public kindergarten opened in the United States, in ...St Louis. The Kindergarten industry in Australia has flourished in recent years as a result of the incredibly generous childcare rebates offered by both the Labor and Liberal governments. Initially the childcare rebates was introduced as a measure to increase the Australian labour force participation rates in booming economic times. However its now become a staple of our middle class welfare system, which successive Australian governments may find it virtually impossible to wean the Australian public off the substantial concession in waning economic conditions.
20.01.2022 Joe Hockey is forcing the sale of a $39 million trophy residence within 90 days because the Chinese purchaser failed to gain approval from the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB). This could be the start of thousands of properties being forced back on the market in fire-sales if Joe Hockey wins out and forces the sale of this property. http://www.propertyobserver.com.au//40744-villa-del-mare.h

17.01.2022 Payday Lenders booming in Australia - With the almost inexplicable month-on-month increase in Australian Consumer spending culminating to historic record highs in the last qtr 2014, it is no wonder that Payday Lenders are having a field day with the industry experiencing a lending boom in Australia. Australians are feeling wealthier with property prices entering the 'mania phase' predicted in the ever-reliable bubble asset chart created by Dr Rodrigue. As a result of feeli...ng wealthier (but not necessarily healthier or wiser), we're allowing ourselves to spend record amounts on household goods and motor vehicles. Coupled with the increased cost of living that far outpaces CPI increases, households are spending a higher proportion of their income on life necessities leaving little to no savings to deal with unexpected expenses. The ABS found around 13% of households could not raise A$2,000 in a week for something important and 17.9% had at least one cash flow problem in the last 12 months. By all measures, this is a modest figure considering the state of the Australian economy at the moment with high unemployment (underemployment at 8.6% and unemployment at 6.3% - seasonally adjusted downwards of course to account for political sensitivities), wages growth is low, the mining boom is now a distant memory, the slowing growth in the construction sector (that is investment in residential dwellings) slowing from 7.9% annual growth 6 months ago to 5.6% annual growth today. Throw into the bubbling mix of the Australian domestic economy international factors such as the slowing chinese economy and a furthering of restrictions on the outflow of money from China to Australia, and you can see that Australia could be at the frothy cusp of change. Back to the topic of today's article, a great recommended read in today's 'The Conversation' looks at the payday lending traps. https://theconversation.com/payday-lending-trap-requires-a-

The proposed changes will mean that discounted options are generally taxed when they are converted to shares, rather than when the employee receives the options. The government will extend the maximum time for tax deferral from seven to 15 years. The scheme is designed to assist small start up companies with their employee incentive schemes. ... http://m.afr.com//tech_startups_welcome_expected_share_QH6

13.01.2022 PHARMACY OWNERS - IT'S THE BEGINNING OF THE END Community pharmacy owners can mark down today's date as the beginning of the end for their industry. Already faced with tough competition from major pharmacy discount chains, and the constant waves of PBS reforms, they now have to contend with todays Competition Review recommending that the location rules for pharmacy's be abolished, along with the location rule that a pharmacy must also not be located within, or directly acce...ssible from, a supermarket. The Competition Review panel considered the outcomes of the deregulation of the Pharmacy location rules in overseas jurisdictions, and quoted Chemist Warehouse's submissions to the Competition Review which cited an Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) review that assessed the impacts on competition of pharmacy sector deregulation in several European countries and found that (1) Accessibility of medicines to consumers increased due to the establishment of new pharmacies and the extension of opening hours, and (2) Price decreases were observed in many countries including a dramatic 42 per cent decrease in retail pharmacy prices in Denmark. The Consumers Health Forum, National Seniors Australia, Chemist Warehouse, and Professional Pharmacists Australia call for changes to the ownership and location rules stating that the end result of limiting competition and guaranteeing income has been to (1) Create a significant problem in community pharmacy that is leading to poor health outcomes, (2) stifling of innovation and (3) the taxpayer not receiving value for money. FINAL RECOMMENDATION: In the report released today, the Competition Review recommended that: "The Panel considers that current restrictions on ownership and location of pharmacies are not needed to ensure the quality of advice and care provided to patients. Such restrictions limit the ability of consumers to choose where to obtain pharmacy products and services, and the ability of providers to meet consumers preferences. The Panel considers that the pharmacy ownership and location rules should be removed in the long-term interests of consumers. They should be replaced with regulations to ensure access to medicines and quality of advice regarding their use that do not unduly restrict competition." http://competitionpolicyreview.gov.au//Competition-policy-

12.01.2022 RBA DOWNPLAYS SYDNEY HOUSE PRICES- The RBA has been caught out abandoning its traditionally used linear scale - in favor of a log scale - in its newly released Chart Packs . 07.01.2022 Rest in peace former prime minister Gough Whitlam - dead at 98 Gough Whitlam made 103 pre-election promises prior to the 1972 election that swept him into power. And he kept every single one of them. Former prime minister Paul Keating issued a statement today about the passing of Gough Whitlam in his usual eloquence: ... "Gough Whitlam changed the way Australia thought about itself and gave the country a new destiny. A more inclusive and compassionate society at home - a more engaged and relevant country abroad. He snapped Australia out of the Menzian torpor - the orthodoxy that had rocked the country asleep, giving it new vitality and focus. But more than that, bringing Australia to terms with its geography and place in the region. Along his journey he also renovated the Labor Party, making it useful again as an instrument of reform to Australian society. He will be missed by all who identified with his values and determination to see Australia a better place. But no one will miss him more than his family."
