25.01.2022 WE ARE GMP: Sharing the stories of the people behind our business ----- From an operation initially processing 10 to 15 cattle and 100 lambs per week, GMP now processes almost one million lambs annually. We’ve made large investments in our plant and capital however it has always been our people who are at the centre of our success. As we continue to grow, we’re welcoming many new faces to an ever changing GMP. Over the next eight weeks, we’ll be sharing the stories of team me...mbers as we celebrate our increasingly diverse workplace. This week, we’re shining a light on our Administration Officer, Rodee Manefeldt. Rodee grew up in Richards Bay on the east coast of South Africa, where she balanced studies with a professional modelling career. Following her studies, she held several buying positions with high profile fashion labels owned by the Mr Price Group. In late 2016, Rodee’s husband caught the eye of packaging company Visy Industries. With sought after experience and a degree in pulp and paper engineering, he was offered a position with Visy in Tumut. The pair had previously only visited Perth, however the opportunity to live and work in Australia outweighed the unknown and in 2017 Rodee and her husband relocated to Tumut. Whilst Rodee says it has taken some time to adjust to a quieter, country lifestyle, she says that the wide expansive landscapes and small-town living are some of her favourite things about being in Australia, having spent most of her life in cities. In addition to working at GMP, Rodee also designs and makes evening gowns and has opened a modelling school in Tumut. Drawing on her experience as Miss Mzansi Africa 2016, Rodee is helping to build confidence in young women in the local area including presentation and public speaking skills. Rodee says Australia is home for her now. She will never take for granted how safe she feels in Australia and looks forward to continuing to build her future and family in Tumut.

24.01.2022 Check out our new shiny set of wheels that just rolled into town (a bit more upmarket than the first refrigerated truck from the 70s!). This purchase is part of a wider company strategy to internalise functions that add value to our business. It also means more jobs for locals. From Monday 10 September we’ll be taking over the freight of our mixed ovine material (MOM) in a daily run from Gundagai to Melbourne with Matt Guszlovan behind the wheel. We’re also currently looking ...for an MC licensed driver for a Gundagai to Sydney run on a Saturday as well as a backup driver to be on call to cover annual leave. If you’re interested in learning more about these positions, please contact Janet in our HR team on 02 6944 1001.

23.01.2022 Did you know we process around 1 million lambs each year with the potential to export to more than 70 countries?

23.01.2022 We are proud to share that we are now approved to export meat to the USA! Today we celebrated with an American classic, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts for all employees at Smoko! Special thanks to 7-Eleven Pheasants Nest South for being so helpful in making it all happen!

23.01.2022 As many of you may be aware there is currently unprecedented external market conditions (lamb prices and drought) impacting supply volumes of lambs across the industry. As a result we’ve made the difficult decision to move production from five days to four as an interim measure until market conditions improve. There will be no reduction in staff numbers as a result of this temporary decision and full production will resume once market conditions improve. Thank you for your continued support of GMP.

23.01.2022 Check out the LIVEstock Pricing App for the latest lamb grid prices from KC Natural Angus / Gundagai Lamb over December 2019 / January 2020. Download the App here https://livestockpricing.com.au/app-store-links/

21.01.2022 Good luck to the CSU team this week!

20.01.2022 WE ARE GMP: Sharing the stories of the people behind our business ----- The Murdoch family is almost as synonymous with GMP as the Barton family. Brothers Smiley, Shorty and Son Murdoch have more than 72 years’ combined service at GMP, however the family’s association with the business doesn’t end there with children, nephews and in-laws and their sister Joy also employed with the company.... With each brother’s tenure extending 20 years, it’s not hard to imagine the changes they have seen to the operations and evolution to a more culturally diverse workplace as the business has grown overtime. GMP has invested $30 million in capital upgrades and improvements over the past two years to increase not only production capacity but to deliver cost savings and quality measures for clients and secure GMP’s position as one of the most innovative processors in Australia. This includes the introduction of world-leading technology and automation including a ‘no-touch’ carcase chiller and sortation system. The brothers all agree the recent investments have been great for not only GMP but also Gundagai and surrounding regions to provide stable and secure employment opportunities, in addition to reducing the manual labour required through the use of robotics and automation. Shorty has also benefited from GMP’s redevelopment with a change in position to a new area of the plant processing product for international markets. It’s workers like the Murdoch’s who have provided stability within our teams and given absolute commitment to their work, supporting and mentoring new comers that helps underpin our business every day. From one family to another, we thank you for your ongoing dedication to GMP.

Click the link: https://mindhive.org//how-the-red-meat-industry-is-governed The discussion will cover four main topics: 1. What you see as the main current strengths and weaknesses of the Red Meat MOU and governance of the industry more generally; 2. 12.01.2022 WE ARE GMP: Sharing the stories of the people behind our business ---- As a locally owned company with a proud 100-year history in the region we have long recognised the power of our people in shaping business success. From a small family operation, we now have a 250 strong team from diverse backgrounds and experiences that have helped us become a Tier 2 Export processor. This week, we’d like to share the story of our recently appointed Lamb Floor Manager, George Mathoat, wh...o has moved to the region from Colac, Victoria and a world away from his journey as one of the lost boys of Sudan. In 1989, at age seven, George was forced from his home and family in Sudan due to the civil war. This led to a 1,000km journey to Ethiopia, taken by hundreds of people on foot, involving terrible conditions, including limited food and water, and many people falling prey to attacks by lions and leopards. After three months, George arrived at a refugee camp in Ethiopia, where the United Nations (UN) provided shelter, food and water, medical care and clothing. Here he stayed until 1991, until war broke out in Ethiopia and forced everyone to flee once again back to Sudan. The group of about 4,000 boys travelled through several places, none of which were safe to stay for long, until 1992 when they were transported to a Kenyan refugee camp by the UN and Kenyan Government. George lived in this camp for 12 years in harsh conditions and while there began his education. With the help of the UN, George was resettled in Sydney in 2005 before moving to be closer to friends in Melbourne where he continued his studies and completed his Certificate II in Information and Technology. George relocated to Colac in 2006 to begin his career in lamb processing before joining us at GMP with his wife and four children here in Gundagai.
