22.01.2022 The call to turn off all electrical devices when flying is as old as the electrical devices we carry. This wasnt too bad as we have been getting a decent amount of inflight entertainment. A generation before we had all those electrical smartphones we had to do with one film on a plane, and grew bored if it was something we didnt care for. The situation now looks to have changed. Planes have started to incorporate Wi-Fi into their systems, encouraging us to use our own infl...ight entertainment. Qantas has even started offering Foxtel, Netflix and Spotify to its domestic passengers. This internet based entertainment proves cheaper than installing new inflight film systems. And once internet is connected the potential for more uses is as wide as the internet itself. Some foreign domestic services have already done away with inflight entertainment on their shorter flights. They expect people to just use the portable devices. Perhaps this will decrease the cost of flying as it decreases the initial cost of the plane. 19.01.2022 iPhone Anniversary The iPhone first appeared 10 years ago this month. Of course it wasnt the first smartphone, but it almost certainly the first important one. Earlier devices were upmarket and prestige. The iPhone, by contrast, was the device you needed to have in order to be taken seriously. Either that, or a competitors product that you claimed was just as good. Its the competitor angle that is important here. Other companies copied the Apple products. If you want to un...derstand how important something is, look at how much it sells and look at how much it is copied. The features of an iPhone were copied a lot. Of course we are still talking about the iPhone because it continued to be updated and continued to be popular. It could have been the product that inspired the imitators to supersede it, but it actually became the product that the imitators needed to keep up with. Some changes were inevitable it had to go to 3G. Others were expectations that needed to be fulfilled, such as first apps and the later third party apps. Thankfully this lived up to the implied expectations. Like so many hardware products the iPhone is continually updated by new software. That is why it is still around. 15.01.2022 Apple Watches Again Apple watches have been around for a while. As with some of these products there was an initial sales peak when it was first introduced on the market, followed by a slump. Part of the issue was that people were waiting for the right apps to be developed. Another part was that some people saw the watch as an extension of the phone. Of course the price was always an issue. If you equate expense with luxury the Apple watch is definitely luxurious, even if i...t doesnt do as much as expected. But the second generation of watches now just released might justify the price tag. They are suitably faster, waterproof and have their own GPS. The speed is necessary as Apps were previously too slow to be practical. The Built in GPS and waterproof functions seem like minor improvements; we were used to using our phone for GPS, and werent we able to leave the watch off when swimming. But as the health apps were one of the selling points of the apple watch the water wearability and GPS proved near essential. We used the device to monitor our exercise, and that proved futile if we took it off to go swimming! GPS was needed as most of us dont want to go jogging with our expensive phones. Of course the big issue with the apple watch is the same one with many smartphones we basically have to charge them every day. Unfortunately, this looks to remaining the same for the moment.

The needs of the current market and tomorrows potential for todays technology are two factors here, and these are understandable hard to predict. But if a company produces an item that really has many potential uses, and if the public recognize this, then there is a good chance the item will catch on. Upcoming Apple phones look... to have a 3D camera. This is generating a lot of hype because of the potential uses in facial recognition. Present facial recognition is notorious for making mistakes when confronted with makeup, glasses and hat, to say nothing of non-white individuals. 3D camera look to see straight through these issues. The 3D camera looks to work by sending out invisible Infrared light and measuring how much is reflected back to its sensor, much like the system used in radar. This is basically a scan of the face using only heat. 3D technology could also be used for an iris scan, which is even more individual than a fingerprint. Of course there is fact that an initial scan of the individuals features will be stored somewhere, and that this might be used to bypass security systems. 09.01.2022 Reclaiming Google My Business Google My Business is a useful search feature, giving a company control of the information that appears in a search engine query. A column on the right of the Google search screen will show company details. The company will also appear on the Google map. Of course that company needs to request ownership and manage their account if they are to set up the information that they want displayed for their business. Perhaps your entry on the Google My ...business was set up by your website provider, or a previous owner or employee. You will need to reclaim the listing for yourself. To request ownership of a Google My business Listing: 1. Go to the business.google.com/add site 2. Enter your business details 3. Find your particular company on the search results 4. Click continue. There may be a message to show that the listing was verified by somebody else. 5. Click request access, and fil lout the details. 6. Submit. Both you and the present owner of the listing will be contacted, usually by by email, to sort out the change of ownership. If the present owner does not respond within 7 days, you may be able to claim the business on the site. Else, the present owner may try to retain the listing, in which case you can appeal. See more

03.01.2022 Work Works Out Outside. Our inside exercise has become a regular feature here. The outdoor exercise is looking to become a regular feature too. Office exercise isnt a new idea. We have suspected for a while that it has great benefits. One is the social aspects it is good for company morale. Another is the obvious health benefits. Our mind and body and linked, and if we are healthier and have got the blood flowing through the system, then we perform better. This translates to achieving more with the time we have, fewer sick days, and just feeling better about life. Theres an old adage that say people who do a lot of cutting should spend some time to sharping their saws. In other words, we should improve our performance and not spend all our time performing.
