24.01.2022 MEET THE DIRECTORS: Janet Nelson for ‘Worse Things Happen’ Janet trained as a professional actor and then Director in the UK. She then worked as a director and dramaturg in various regional theatres in the UK. Janet trained actors and directors at East15 Acting School one of the UK’s major Drama Schools and part of the University of Essex. She was also Deputy Artistic Director of East 15 and Director of Studies. Janet moved to Australia in 2006 and joined Newcastle Theatre Co...mpany (NTC) in 2010. At NTC she directed a number of plays including Sisters in Law, All My Sons, The Women of Lockerbie, Dancing at Lughnasa, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Death and the Maiden. 19.01.2022 MEET THE CAST: Jan Hunt plays ‘Regina’ in ‘Special Places’ This is Jan’s third year participating in the Micro Theatre Festival. Jan has has appeared with Zeal Theatre, Shakespeare et al, Stray Dogs, Footlice Theatre Company, Ship of Fools and NTC to name a few. Jan most recently appeared as Lou in Knock and Run Theatre's production of Year of the Rooster and is soon to be seen in Stooged Theatre's The Dark Room, in Early August at the Civic Playhouse. 18.01.2022 MEET THE CAST: Emma Wood plays ‘Dolores’ in ‘Do Not Touch’ Emma is excited to be performing in her first Micro Theatre production with this delightful script under the direction of Pearl Nunn. She recently appeared as Pearl in Summer of the 17th Doll at Newcastle theatre Company. Before that she was lucky enough to perform at the Princess Grace Theatre of Monaco, in the multi award winning production of Playhouse Creatures with Pigeonhole Theatre (Canberra). She loved workin...g with Canberra Repertory in Witness for the Prosecution and Blithe Spirit. She has appeared in Newcastle in Pygmalion, The Accused, Speaking in Tongues, The Removalists and more. Emma is also a playwright and director. Her first play Water Child won Best New Play in 2012 at the CONDAs, and her next play, Mr Bennet's Bride, was a big hit at NTC in 2014, touring in 2015. Both have been performed by other companies since. She is excited that her next work The Third Act will premiere at NTC in October. Her student production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at Narrabundah College in 2015 won CAT awards for Best School Play and Best Director. 17.01.2022 MEET THE CAST: Carl Gregory is ‘Jimmy’ in ‘Wheeler Dealer’ Carl Gregory is a Newcastle-based actor, writer, and (intermittent) theatre critic. Since graduating from the Hunter School of the Performing Arts in 2007, Carl has performed in dozens of productions across Newcastle’s thriving theatre community, including Pseudolus in Club 71’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (2016), E.K. Hornbeck in Newcastle Theatre Company's Inherit the Wind (2017), and Dickie Thimb...le in Knock and Run Theatre’s Year of the Rooster (2018). He has previously been involved with numerous theatre companies across Newcastle, including Theatre on Brunker, Stooged Theatre, as well as DAPA Theatre and Two Tall Theatre. Carl joined the judging panel of the City of Newcastle Drama Association (CONDA) in 2014, and continues to greatly appreciate the work of Newcastle’s incredible theatre community to this day. 16.01.2022 MEET THE DIRECTORS- Allison van Gaal for ‘Wheeler Dealer’ Allison holds a Bachelor of Music and a Graduate Diploma of Education. Allison has performed in over 80 local productions in her 27 years in the Newcastle Theatre Community, where she has had numerous lead roles in musicals, cabarets, plays, and both directed and musical directed receiving a City of Newcastle Dramatic Award nomination for Best Musical Direction and Best Supporting Actress in a dramatic play. In 2015... Allison directed Michael Gows "Away" and she was Nominated for Best Director at the City of Newcastle Drama Awards. More recently she was the recipient of the 2017 Tantrum Trajectory Residency Program creating and directing her original theatre work Welcome for Crack Festival. Allison has previously directed for both Micro Theatre festival and Hissy Festival. Most recently on stage Allison appeared in Hunter Drama’s production of Rent. Earlier this year Allison directed Year of the Rooster for Knock and Run Theatre. Allison is currently Assistant Director for Stooged production of The Dark Room opening at the Civic Playhouse in August and she is currently rehearsing a lead role George in Newcastle Theatre Company’s Peep Show opening July 13th. 15.01.2022 MEET THE CAST/DIRECTORS: Amy Wilde is 'Tammy’ in ‘Worse Things Happen’ and the director of ‘Special Places’. Amy is a Newcastle-based actor originally from Manilla in regional NSW. She began her training at the University of Newcastle studying a Bachelor of Arts (English and Drama)/ Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) and has since completed various short acting courses at NIDA and RADA. ... Amy has worked with various local companies as both actor and director including; Newcastle Theatre Company, Pencil Case Productions, Stooged Theatre, Theatre on Brunker, Micro Theatre, Two Tall Theatre and GNaW Theatre. 10.01.2022 MEET THE CAST: Stephanie Priest is ‘Kate’ in ‘Wheeler Dealer’ Stephanie has been involved in the entertainment industry for over 15 years as a performer, writer, director, session singer, music mentor and teacher. As a performer, Stephanie has appeared in over 40 theatre productions in the last 10 years, most recently as Philipa in Knock & Run Theatre’s ‘Year of the Rooster’ and Eponine in 'Les Miserables' (Metropolitan Players), for which she earned a CONDA nomination for b...est supporting actress. Stephanie also recently appeared as 'Girl' in the short play 'Welcome', for Tantrum Theatre's Trajectory Residency. Stephanie made her professional theatre debut in 2016, appearing as Jan in Squabbalogic's 'The Original Grease', in Sydney, then Hattie in Squabbalogic's Mystery Musical #4: 'Kiss Me Kate'. To begin 2017, Steph performed in the World Premiere of the original musical 'The Tale Of Ichabod Scrubb', in Sydney. Most recently, Steph received a special invitation to perform with the Australian renowned composer Matthew Lee Robinson at the OZ Theatrics Junior Music Theatre Celebration in Newcastle. Alongside her on-stage work, Steph has directed several local theatre pieces, including the short play 'Train Love' for Tantrum's Hisseyfes 2016, The Cold Streak' for Hisseyfest 2017, and 'The Jungle Book Junior' for Newcastle Grammar School. In 2015, Steph co-wrote, directed and starred in the play 'Unforgettable' for Short + Sweet Sydney, earning a place in the renowned Top 12. Steph has studied and gained a Cert 3 in Theatre, a Cert IV in Music Theatre and an Advanced Diploma of Arts - Acting, through RIPA. She has taught drama and singing for over 10 years and has also worked as professional Humour Therapist and Choir Leader with The Arts Health Institute. 08.01.2022 MEET THE CAST- Philip McGrath is ‘Phil’ in ‘Worse Things Happen’ Philip was first cast on the acting stage in 1991 by director Mark Gauntlett in his UoN production of The Revengers Tragedy. Since then he has returned to the University stage a number of times, as well as performing with many theatre companies around Newcastle such as Stray Dogs, Shakespeare et al, Freewheels, Stooged, Upstage, Very Popular, Blank Page and will be making his Lowbrow Outfit debut later this year. Philip is very excited about working on Micro Theatre- The Directors’ Cut. 08.01.2022 MEET THE CAST: Rachael Rose Sales plays ‘Rachel’ in ‘Special Places’ Rachael began her involvement with Theatre 20 years ago, studying at YPT, before joing Hunter Yout Ensemble and studying Drama in the Higher School Certificate. Her Year 12 Drama Group were nominated for "On Stage", the best of NSW HSC Drama. In 2010, Rachael began a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Newcastle, Majoring in Drama. Rachael appeared in numerous productions over those years with an aray of l...ocal companies, including: The Boy From Oz (Metropolitan Players), The Woman Who Lived In A Shoe (YPT), Animal Farm (YPT), Cinderella (YPT), Seminar (Stooged Theatre) and Roald Dahl's Complete Works. Rachael was also a part of the world's first arena production of High School Musical. In addition, Rachael acted as a lead, supporting act and extra for numerous TV shows and documentaries during this time too. She has completed her 7th grade AMEB piano, 6th grade Saxophone and 6th Grade singing exams. In late 2010, Rachael traveled and lived overseas, where she ended up in London and literally "broke a leg". in Late 2013 she returned to Australia where she decided to commence a Bachelor of Nursing. Rachael is now a Registered Nurse in General Practice. She continues to sing at gigs with her father and perform in stage productions. This is her Micro Theatre and GNaW debut. 03.01.2022 MEET THE DIRECTORS: Pearl Nunn for ‘Do Not Touch’ Pearl made her assistant director's debut with Two Tall Theatre's inaugural production of Age of Consent in 2015. She assistant directed Two Tall's 2016 production of S-27 by Sarah Grochala, alongside the talented Jay Wood. Also in 2016, Pearl directed two short plays for Micro Theatre Festival and a short play entitled 'Kill It!' by Cooper McDonald, which was performed as part of Hissyfest with Tantrum Youth Arts. She also di...rected Do Not Touch by Julia Lewis which won the People's Choice Award at Micro Theatre's Curve Gallery in 2017. Pearl directed her first full length play, Inherit the Wind, at Newcastle Theatre Company in 2017. This year Pearl has also directed Ugly Mugs with GNaW Theatre.
