25.01.2022 Be on Guard By Michael Youssef, Ph.D. Cults and heresies flourish because sincere people are looking for answers. Many are willing to turn to anything other th...an God. As a believer, you have been given the source of all Truth through God's Word. However, we must be on guard when it comes to Satan's deception. If a pastor or preacher teaches something contrary to the Bible, disregard it. In Matthew 24:4-5, Jesus warned His disciples, "Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Messiah,' and will deceive many." Satan is the source of all deception. He wants us to wander off course by compromising the convictions God has taught us. At first, we may wander just a few steps to the left or the right, but before we know it, we have fallen into sin. Satan strives to cause us to distrust God, His leadership, His authority, and His Word. When we reject His Truth, all we have left to stand on is a handful of lies. Paul reminds us that judgment is coming and calls us to stand firm in the Truth of Christ: In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encouragewith great patience and careful instruction. (2 Timothy 4:1-2) Life is hopeless without Christ. But He is alive, and He is willing to fill every void in your life. You can look to Him for all the right answers to your every question. Jesus will meet you right where you are. God knows you, and He loves you. He knows your deepest needs. Keep His Word close to your heart, and you will not be deceived. Prayer: Father, thank You for Your Scripture that leads me into all Truth. Help me to hide its words in my heart that I might not sin against You (Psalm 119:11). I know You love me and care for me. Remembering this, help me to exercise my faith in You today so that I will not be deceived. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. "Resist [Satan], standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings" (1 Peter 5:9).
22.01.2022 Champions Focus on God By Michael Youssef, Ph.D. Everyone loves to pull for the underdog. Whether in sports, business, or the movies, we always like to see the... character with the most obstacles to overcome conquer them. It stirs our souls because we secretly wish we would have the courage to accomplish something extraordinary. There is one consistent trait that moves even the weakest person on to triumph, and that is true focus. The men and women in the Bible who accomplished great things for God's Kingdom had great focus. Though they stumbled along the way, Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon, and even Samson trained their eyes to stay put on the Lord. Taking your eyes off God can result in failure, just like keeping your eyes firmly fixed on Him can bring some of the greatest victories you will ever know. In your weakest moments, ask yourself if you are focused on God or on your situation. Whenever self-pity sets in, know that failure is lurking nearby. Bemoaning about difficulty demonstrates that your faith has been rocked. Confidence in God can vanish when you try to solve your problems apart from Him. Keeping our focus on the Lord keeps us from repeating past failures. As we realize that He is the one who leads us through impossible situations, we rely less upon our own strength and more on His. Trusting God for direction and confidently following His lead are marks of a championa champion who is focused firmly on Him. Prayer: Lord, help me to stay focused on You at every moment today. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. "So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness" (Colossians 2:6-7).
19.01.2022 Champions Have Courage, Not Contempt By Michael Youssef, Ph.D. Whenever we experience any level of success in life, it is tempting to revel in our own glory, s...oaking in the praise as if we were the sole reason for our success. Undoubtedly, David faced the same temptation. Yet because of where his faith rested, he never yielded to these urges. As a young man, David was anointed to become the next king of Israel by the prophet Samuel. You would think that hearing such a prophecy and then receiving an anointing to affirm God's call would be enough to drive David to go out and make it a reality. David reacted differently. Instead of marching up to the palace gates and telling Saul that his days as king were over, David decided to act as a true champion: He let God fulfill the calling on his life by placing him in the right place at the right time. David was a courageous young man, facing many fears with great resolve. Yet he never took his courage too far, and he never challenged God's timing. So often in life, whenever we get a whiff of success, we proceed ahead of the Lord. But God often uses a delay in timing to prepare our hearts and minds for what He desires to do through us. David never usurped God's timing, despite his bold and courageous demeanor. He fully trusted God, which was why David experienced the level of success that he did. He knew the Lord was the source of his every victory. So, instead of trying to venture into challenging places alone, David waited for God's timing. To be truly courageous in God's Kingdom, we must be servants willing to wait on Him. Prayer: Lord, instill in me the patience necessary to wait upon You to fulfill the calling You have on my life. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. "Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you" (Psalm 9:10).
17.01.2022 Godlessness in the Last Days By Michael Youssef, Ph.D. Some years ago, a newly elected politician proclaimed, "We are the children of the modern age!" If this ...is true, a good question for us to ask is, "What has the modern age given us?" The answers that come to mind are disheartening: crack cocaine, satanic cults, instructions on safe sex, misdirected individuals who would rather save a spotted owl than an innocent baby inside a mother's womb. The modern age has given us a liberal media that paints Bible-believing Christians as right-wing zealots and fanatics. It has given us the institutional church, which has become so entwined with the radical left that it is difficult to distinguish between the church and the modern age! Difficulties like these should not surprise us. Paul told Timothy that in the last days: People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, . . . lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Godhaving a form of godliness but denying its power. (2 Timothy 3:2-5) Then he cautions us, "Have nothing to do with such people" (2 Timothy 3:5). Despite the wickedness of the world that storms around us, we can live in victory because we serve a mighty God who provides the wisdom we need for every situation. When the winds of adversity blow hard against your life, take shelter in the Lord. When the world turns dark and lonely, place your trust in Christ, and you will receive the victor's crown! Remember this the next time trials come your way: It is a natural first reaction to ask God to remove any form of adversity from your life. However, it is often hardship and difficulty that provide the right atmosphere for spiritual growth. Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are with me in every trial and that You give me the strength to stand. Fill me each day with Your Spirit, I pray. Help me not to neglect Your Word that sustains me with Truth. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. "You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 2:1).
14.01.2022 JESUS SPREAD HAPPINESS - Max Lucado Jesus was accused of much, but he was never described as a grump or sourpuss or self-centered jerk. People didn’t groan when... he appeared. He called them by name. He listened to their stories. He answered their questions. He visited their sick relatives, and he helped their sick friends. He fished with fishermen, he ate lunch with the little guy, and he spoke words of resounding affirmation. He went to weddings. He went to so many parties that he was criticized for hanging out with questionable people. Thousands came to hear him. Hundreds chose to follow him. They walked away from careers to be with him. His purpose statement read I came to give life with joy and abundance (John 10:10 The Voice). Jesus was happy and wants us to be the same. See more
13.01.2022 Prayer can change your life ‘Pray much for others; plead for God’s mercy.’ 1 Timothy 2:1 Prayer is simply communicating with God. And communication can be spoke...n or silent. It can even be expressed in song. Many of the psalms are just prayers set to music. Prayer is connecting with God. Whether it’s confessing a sin, praising His name, pursuing His will, interceding for a friend, or petitioning for your own needs, your prayer must be God-centred, never self-centred. Sincere prayer comes from a heart that longs for God to reveal what He desires. So you must allow adequate time for listening and waiting intently before your heavenly Father. And prayer must be your first priority. Paul instructs Timothy: ‘I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made.’ (1 Timothy 2:1 NIV) Note the words, ‘First of all’. Before you slide out of bed, before you take a shower, before you make your way to work, and before your first appointment, pray, pray, pray! Every afternoon at three o’clock, Peter and John went to the temple to pray. In the middle of the day, they interrupted their schedule to gather for one purpose: prayer. So when your day is rolling along at its own pace and in its own direction, interrupt it with prayer. As your day builds towards a crisis, deliberately stop to pray. When your morning begins to go south, pull away for a few moments of solitude to seek God’s mind and ask for His instruction. When your attitude starts to sour, pause for an attitude adjustment prompted by prayer. Don’t waitpray immediately. Make prayer your first priority in all things and at all times. If you do, you’ll find that prayer changes your life for the better. SoulFood: Num 2729, Mark 7:1423, Ps 44:18, Pr 11:9
12.01.2022 The Truth of Creation (5) ‘And God said, Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds.’ Genesis 1:24 God said in creation, ‘Let the ear...th bring forth living creatures according to their kinds.’ And ‘when God created mankind, He made them in the likeness of God When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness.’ (Genesis 5:1,3 NIV) In other words, man isn’t just another animal in the evolutionary chain. ‘Microevolution’ teaches variations or adaptations within species. For example, there are different types of dogs, etc. But there is no scientific evidence to support ‘macroevolution’one species evolving into another species. In reference to creation, Dr Derek Prince wrote: ‘I am simple-minded enough to believe that it happened the way the Bible described it. I have been a professor at Britain’s largest university [Cambridge] for nine years. I hold various degrees and academic distinctions, and I feel in many ways I am quite sophisticated intellectually, but I don’t feel in any way intellectually inferior when I say that I believe the Bible record of creation. Prior to believing the Bible I have studied many other attempts to explain man’s origin and found them all unsatisfying and in many cases self-contradictory. I turned to study the Bible as a professional philosophernot as a believerand I commented to myself, At least it can’t be any sillier than some of the other things I’ve heard, and to my astonishment, I discovered it had the answer.’ Are you looking for answers to your life’s problems? Or direction for your future? Read your Bible and live by its precepts! SoulFood: Ecc 912, Matt 15:114, Ps 5, Pr 5:12
07.01.2022 More than Job Ever Dreamed. Max Lucado If you underline any passage in the book of Job, underline this verse: I had heard about you before, but now I ha...ve seen you (Job 42:5). Job sees Godand that is enough. But it isn’t enough for God. The years to come find Job with his health restored. His lap is once again full of children and grandchildren. A new beginning indeed. If Job ever wonders why God doesn’t bring back the children he has taken away, he doesn’t ask. Maybe he knows that his children could never be happier than they are in the presence of this One he has seen so briefly. Something tells me that Job would do it all again if that’s what it would take to hear God’s voice and stand in his presence. For God gave Job more than Job ever dreamed. God gave Job himself.
