25.01.2022 GFB SOCIAL RIDE - Bobbin Head/Brooklyn 73km/1128m Sunday 15th 6.30am - Hornsby Pool What is a GFB Social Ride I hear you ask? After this year's event we're introducing social rides into our ride calendar. They won't replace Training Rides which we'll still have in the lead up to our events. Groups will still split into max. of 20's with staggered starts. i.e.If we have 45 people coming we'll split into 3 groups, 15min between each. Fastest last.... GFB Social Rides are designed to be shorter and involve a great coffee and food stop. We encourage non GFB riders to attend. Each bunch will have at least one Ride Captain who will be an experienced rider or GFB committee member. This ride includes two of Northern Sydney's classic climbs - West Bobbin Head and Brooklyn Hill. We'll start by heading south from Hornsby Pool towards Turramurra then turn Nth towards Bobbin Head. After climbing West Bobbo, regather then head to Brooklyn for coffee & breakfast at King Tide Cafe. Return via Brooklyn Hill (with full stomachs) then back to Hornsby. SUPER keen cyclists can head back to Hornsby via Berowra Ferry and Galston Gorge. If you're coming you need to register for contact tracing. https://www.strava.com/clubs/117534/group_events/832567 Next social ride - Sunday 17th of January.

25.01.2022 REMEMBER - GFB IS NOW ON THE 17TH OF OCTOBER! Make sure you DON'T go to the start line tomorrow. With a few showers predicted we hope to have great weather in four weeks time. Use the extra month to get extra training in! This week the committee has been reviewing the speed groups. We'll be emailing everyone next week.... Stay safe and see everyone in four weeks.

22.01.2022 On Australia Day GFB conducted a training ride to the top of Kurrajong Hill. Five riders, four for the the first time, rode under hot conditions the full 623m climb over 14km. The tough Bell Bird Hill section testing everyone with it’s avg of 11% over 1.7km and its short pinch of 16%. The climb up Kurrajong is the toughest of the two KOM/QOMs on VIC100. Have you got what it takes? Not many people ride this stunning course by themselves. So GFB created this event. To ensure y...our safety each peloton has a support car and motorcycle escort with St John’s and First Aid responders on course ensuring each bunch gets to Mt Victoria safely. Join us on Sunday the 21st of February for the first VIC100. Be part of history as the first cycle event ever over Bell’s Line of Road. 22.01.2022 The team were gutted that with less than 2 weeks to go Blue Mountains Local Area Command (BMLAC) highlighted concerns for VIC100 over Bells Line of Road. Unfortunately the decision was made to delay the event to November so we have time to address their concerns. So as we meet with BMLAC and Blue Mountains City Council, on the day VIC100 was meant to be on, the 21st of February, 10 riders did a 150km loop from Richmond to Mt Victoria via Mt Tomah and Bell. We had perfect ri...ding weather and no wind. Apart from myself, Ed, no one had done the course before and had grins from ear to ear when we got back to Richmond after a great descent down the Great Western Hwy from Katoomba. While we finalise details for B2B (Berowra to Broke) for Saturday October 9th we look forward to seeing VIC100 go ahead late November. Stay safe and see you on the road soon.

20.01.2022 GFB20 - NEW DATE SATURDAY THE 17TH OF OCTOBER Last week on the 26th of August NSW Health Guide Lines for Community Based Sporting Events was updated. The impacts of these updates unfortunately means Go for Broke will need to be delayed four weeks. For GFB the conditions specifically affecting us are,... 1. Riders and volunteers attending GFB cannot come from different regions (i.e. someone from Parramatta or Penrith cannot attend an event in Berowra) 2. As an event, GFB cannot travel from one region of NSW to another. That is the case for 10 or 100 people. As well as safety of all riders and volunteers, as we're representing Lifeline and event partners, the committee needs to ensure we run a professional and Covid safe event. As such our policy has always been to work within NSW Health Guidelines. Fortunately for GFB these new guidelines are only in place till 30th of September. As such the GFB Committee have determined Saturday the 17th of October as the new date for our event. All registered riders were sent an email Wednedsay this week. Please email [email protected] if you're unable to attend the new date.

20.01.2022 HUB CYCLING - NEW GFB KIT MANUFACTURER IN 2020 At GFB we love great kit. This year GFB20 has partnered with HUB Cycling who also supply Bicycle Network. Make sure you check out the size chart (Premium Fit option) available on the GFB web site or the link below. We're putting the jersey order though next Friday t...he 14th of August. If you're someone who likes to try your kit on before you decide our mates at Turramurra Cyclery have Hub jerseys and knicks to try on. 19.01.2022 GFB20 - THIRTY SPOTS LEFT. COVID-19 EDITION. There's a great little cafe in York Lane, Sydney behind Wynyard Station. Great coffee. Dieter the owner is a keen cyclist and has put up GFB20 posters to promote the event. He's even put one of our old GFB19 jersey’s on one of the cafe mannequins he uses for social distancing in the front window. Dieter told me he's going to sign up for the ride. We only have 30 tickets left. With a number of events starting to cancel our groups of... 20 riders with 120 in total, GFB's format is social distancing friendly. On the day we'll have a Covid Safety Plan to ensure the safety of riders, volunteers, family & friends who attend. So sign up and join us on the big day, Saturday the 19th of September. Register here for GFB20 https://give.goforbroke.org.au/register/gfb/register Make sure you visit York Lane & say hello to Dieter https://www.facebook.com/York-Lane-188585934513171

19.01.2022 EIGHT AUSTRALIANS LOSE THEIR BATTLE WITH MENTAL HEALTH EACH DAY For each suicide, 30 people try. Suicide remains the leading cause of death for Australians aged between 15-34. Some mental health experts are saying the impact of Covid-19 could lead to a 25% increase. At Go for Broke we can’t sit idle while these horrific numbers impact on so many individuals & families. The money we raise for Lifeline, raising awareness of mental health and promoting cycling with friends lie...s at the core of why we're so focused on running Go for Broke each year. Every dollar raised goes straight to front line services with Lifeline taking one call from someone in need every 30 seconds. Donate to one of our riders or to the event here. https://give.goforbroke.org.au/sponsor Give generously. Help us help Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury. Go for Broke - Ride to Beat Depression. 17.01.2022 WTF CORNER - Best of luck to all GFB Riders A number of GFB riders are riding 3 Peaks tomorrow. What makes 3 Peaks tough & what everyone trains for is the dreaded last climb of the day. At the 200km mark riders hit WTF (What The F#%K) Corner. Appropriate, given that the first 9km averages 12% with only another 14km to climb the full 1000m. All the best to all the riders tomorrow & see you at the finish line for a well earned beer. ... Ed

16.01.2022 AND YOU THOUGHT BEROWRA TO BROKE WAS TOUGH ANNOUNCING FOR GFB21 - VIC100 Sunday the 28th of February 100km/2200m... As we get close to opening registrations for our two events in 2021 we're exciting to share the route of our new second event for Go for Broke 2021. Our new event for 2021 will share the same format as our Berowra to Broke event. Over this iconic route we'll have not one but two KOM/QOMs as you reach a 1000m elevation. 15.01.2022 REGISTRATIONS FOR GFB21 - VIC100 HAVE OPENED Follow this link and click on the Penrith to Mt Victoria Link http://goforbroke.org.au... In 2021 Go for Broke are holding two events. The first off the rank is VIC100, Penrith to Mount Victoria via Bells Line of Road held Sunday February 21st. At 100km, what VIC100 lacks in distance makes up for in climbing. After the first 26km, riders climb from sea level to 1000m within 44km from North Richmond to Mt Tomah with the toughest climb up 2.6km of Bell Bird Hill. Like our Broke event, VIC100 will be run the same way over this iconic route. Each bunch of 20 riders has a rear support car with St John on course. We know this course is tough, like suffers of depression. That's why we ask everyone who registers to select from one of the speed groups below. Run as a social version of a handicap race, there is a 2 hour time split between Group 1 and 7. Who will get to Mt Vic first? Group 1 - avg speed 19km/h-20km Group 2 - avg speed 20km/h-21km Group 3 - avg speed 22km/h-23km Group 4 - avg speed 24km/h-25km Group 5 - avg speed 26km/h-27km Group 6 - avg speed 28km/h-29km Group 7 - avg speed 30km/h-31km Remember, when you get to Bell, the last 10km is the 'Go for Broke' section where you can compete for the finish line within your bunch. City Tattersalls Club, AXA Investment Managers, Scape Australia, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, Harvey Norman, Pacific Sleep Services, Bendigo Bank, Loop Brands and Turramurra Cyclery.

05.01.2022 Steven Dodd, Principal of Berowra Christian Community School wanted to share his personal video of the Bell Loop ride done on the 21st of February. Steven is an avid supporter of Go for Broke. As well as being a Foundation Rider in the first GFB in 2016, GFB's Berowra to Broke ride starts at his school. Thanks again Steven and glad you enjoyed Bell's Line of Road.

04.01.2022 CYCLING FOR SANITY At Go for Broke every dollar we raise goes to Lifeline. That’s why we have great event partners like Harvey Norman, City Tattersalls Club, Bendigo Bank, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, Pacific Sleep Services and Loop Brands. But the money we raise is only half the story.... Including members of the committee, we know many people who ride to help keep themselves sane. In this year of COVID it would be easy not to put our event on as a number of other events are canceled. The GFB committee is focused on delivering another great ride this year because we know the benefits it brings to Lifeline & participants. As we finalise our Covid Safety Plan a few things will be different to ensure everyone’s safety this year. We still have 30 tickets left. Help us help Lifeline Harbour to Hawkesbury save lifes. 04.01.2022 A BIG THANK YOU TO Wise Monkey Cafe Amy from Wise Monkey Cafe has supplied the crucial caffeine fix on the GFB start line for GFB19 & 20. Make sure to pop in on your way through Berowra & say thanks & hello on your next ride.

04.01.2022 GFB20 - CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS Every year we need volunteers to help look after the participants as they ride 180km from Berowra to Broke. We have a number of roles to fill this year. If you'd like to help please email GFB's volunteer coordinator Jo Magson at [email protected]

04.01.2022 This year our first few GFB training rides will be over shorter distances. We’ll still break people into speed groups and offer the faster riders a longer course so everyone has a safe and fun day. Anyone who wants to avoid the gorges, we’ll have a smaller group heading straight to Brooklyn along the Old Pacific Hwy. As it’s Anzac Day, Hornsby RSL will be running their Anzac Day Dawn Service opposite Hornsby Station starting at 5am only a 30sec ride from our starting point.... If you wish to attend the GFB Car will be parked near Hornsy Pool so you can drop off any items of clothing that you use at the Dawn Service but don’t want to ride with. Register on the link below so we know how many people are coming so we can warn the cafe at Brooklyn. Hope to see you there. https://www.strava.com/clubs/117534/group_events/932291

03.01.2022 Somehow we don’t think the Fin Review had us in mind when they put this on the cover of the weekend edition. PS. We’re all in this together.

03.01.2022 GFB20 - THE FINISH LINE IS IN SIGHT. FOUR WEEKS TO GO. With recent announcements by NSW Health, GFB20 - Berowra to Broke IS STILL ON. As many mass participation cycling events have been canceled due to Covid, due to the limited number of riders (120) and the Covid Safety Plan we're putting in place, in four weeks time we'll be riding to Broke! That said, the Committee, to ensure best practice for everyone's health and safety this year, we have decided to limit the rider numbe...rs to 100. At last count we had 3 place left! Event Changes due to Covid Dinner: We unfortunately won't be able to have a post event dinner this year. Anyone who has bought tickets will receive a full refund. Coach: If you have already bought a ticket we will still be transporting riders and their bikes back to the starting line. To ensure social distancing, anyone on the coach will need to wear a face mask. To ensure we only have 26 people on a 56 sitter coach we've unable to take anymore riders. If you were planning on getting the coach please email us at [email protected]. Before the ride: If you are feeling unwell before or on the morning of the event we encourage you to look after yourself and not attend the ride. We will refund your money minus any apparel & small admin costs. All riders will be temperature checked as they arrive at the event. We hope you're training is going we'll and hope to see many of you on our next training ride to Wiseman's Ferry & Mangrove Mt. Ensure you register for contact tracing purposes. https://www.strava.com/clubs/117534/group_events/732290 Regards, GFB Committee
