18.01.2022 Stop Telling Women to Smile is an art series by Tatyana Fazlalizadeh. The work attempts to address gender based street harassment by placing drawn portraits of women, composed with captions that speak directly to offenders, outside in public spaces. Does anyone live in Brooklyn - have you seen these posters? What do you think?
10.01.2022 What happens to you when you face difficulty? Do you keep trying harder or do you give up? Psychologist Carol Dweck (author of Mindset) conducted research examining how intelligent fifth graders handled new, difficult and confusing material. The difference between bright girls and boys is that "bright girls believe that their abilities are innate and unchangeable, while bright boys believe that they can develop ability through effort and practice."... She found that the messages that were given to the students differed according to their gender and that these messages became part of their unconscious belief systems.
08.01.2022 Sounds like fine advice... What would you add to these rules?
02.01.2022 As I saw in another post floating through my feed Keeping silent is acceptance (or words to that effect)... Courtney Meaker tells her story of walking the four miles to and from work, and the harrassment she encounters. "I'm sick of it. I'm sick of not feeling like I can say anything to the idiots that yell at me. Like I can't react. And that I can't even share that this experience happens daily with supposed allies. Not all men shout at me from cars. But the ones that do sh...out at me are the ones that make it unsafe to walk in my city. And you telling me that not all men do that doesn't make my walk, or drive, or existence safer. It makes it more challenging to say, "This happened and it was wrong." It makes it harder to call out this behavior for what it is -- misogynistic, sexist, rape culture bullsh*t behavior. I don't care that not all men are like this. I care that it happens. That it continues to happen. That it's common. That it's so common that when I hear a woman start talking about it with other women, those women can point to at least one similar incident that's happened to them in the past two weeks." See more
