25.01.2022 Hi Folks. I've been continuing my research on the issue of fluoridation and here is the list of questions I am forwarding to the authorities coming to deliver information about the issue to Councillors next Wednesday. I've restricted my list to 20 questions and am also endeavouring to set up a consultation with The Ethics Centre (previously St Johns Ethics Centre) to ensure that I have considered a breadth of ethical concerns which I have and have been raised with me by commu...Continue reading

15.01.2022 What do people think about public toilets in Bega? Are you happy to use the ones under Woolies? At the Gipps St bus stop?... Behind the Church st car park? Or would you prefer BVSC to spend around $250,000 on a new brick building to replace the bus stop toilets? (Which will allow Woolies to close their underground toilets) Would you like to see $250,000 spent elsewhere? Let me know your thoughts...

14.01.2022 Fluoride Information Session Wednesday 3rd May 2017 Last week Councillors and senior staff attended a session held by NSW Health to inform us about the proposal to fluoridate Bermagui, Merimbula and Eden water supplies. There were eight representatives from various bodies and departments including local health professionals, a professor of toxicology, member of the Australian Dental Association and more. During the presentation we had ample opportunity to ask questions and th...Continue reading

12.01.2022 For some reason I can't check messages here. If you want to get in touch please email me on [email protected] or call 0473 485 021.

10.01.2022 Cobargo Folk Festival 2017 was a roaring success! Camping was jam packed with lovely peeps. The music was awesome - my highlight was the Spooky Men's Chorale. Loved the Zydeco, Mexican dancers, salsa lesson and some heart work with Ruth Haggar. The palliative care forum was very heartening though we have a long way to go. It's great to spend a weekend with so many local folks, relaxing, performing, debating, hugging and sharing. I'm filled again with wonder at the level of ta...lent and innovation in our region. Beautiful people with big hearts and good ideas all pulling together as a community - that's us! Now it's back to the hard work of taking all that energy and good will into council to turn it into even more great projects and outcomes. THANKYOU to everyone who chatted to me about BVSC and shared enthusiasm, ideas and challenges!! Xx

09.01.2022 Don't forget - the big THANKYOU is this Sunday in Mogareeka. Come along and share the love, whether you helped on the campaign, voted for me or are curious about what I now hope to achieve. Bring something to chuck on the BBQ. I'm doing cheese platter and cakes!!... Noon onwards.. Xx

07.01.2022 BVS Councillors have been given the task of deciding whether fluoridate Eden and Bermagui water supplies. Here's where my research is up to: Fluoride is effective in reducing tooth decay. Most effective BY FAR when applied topically to teeth. Least effective when given in random doses to entire population via the water supply. Countries which DON'T fluoridate (most of Europe) show same reduction in caries to those that do fluoridate. (Fluoridated toothpaste was introduced aro...und this time) We have NO reliable evidence (I disregard anecdotal evidence) of an increased issue with caries in unfluoridated areas and NO reliable evidence of vulnerable populations actually drinking enough tap water to ingest required dosages. Dosing water supplies at recommended levels will mean that infants on formula will receive OVERDOSE amounts of fluoride (as per NHMRC recommendations) There is next to NO fluoride in breast milk. We have not considered treating the problem of decay with more appropriately targeted treatments or programs. Vaccinations are OPTIONAL, fluoridated drinking water is not. Lastly, are Councillors qualified to decide to medicate an entire population? If NSW Health believes we require directions to fluoridate why don't THEY take responsibility for the decision? (In one of my earlier vocational iterations I was a dental nurse. I've now read dozens of scientific papers on fluoridation. Ethically and professionally, I'm still not qualified to make this decision on your behalf)

04.01.2022 Ok. It's been 10 weeks in the new job at BVSC. Here's what's happening... We've been attending a great deal of training - from the Office of Local Government, Australian Institute of Company Directors, BVSC staff, and more. It's been very comprehensive and illuminating and I'm very, VERY happy to say that much of the training has confirmed my sense that local government is transforming towards a more community-centred approach where best-practice consultation with engaged com...munities supports great places to live. Sounds glib, I know. But the nine BVSC councillors all sitting together, participating in this conversation, is a very good thing! And what about my agenda... Well, I'm investing my energy in establishing relationships, with the other eight councillors, the staff, supporting organisations, community groups and committees. I'm also ensuring that before I make any bold moves towards change I understand what the status quo actually is. I think this is both wise and respectful but it doesn't make for flashy headlines or statements of achievement. That's ok, I'm here for the long haul, big picture sort of change, not short term. If we want a kinder, gentler, subtler, more creative, perceptive, wiser polity we have to BE that. That's what I'm working on, quietly, slowly, deeply. I hope this helps you get a picture of where my energy and focus is at the present. I still happily deal with all the specific, day-to-day issues of local government, attend meetings, negotiate and vote. But there's much more happening in the background. Stay positive, stay tuned. Talk to me about your ideas and impressions - we're in this together...! Cheers, Cr J.

02.01.2022 That's another Christmas done... I hope everyone found a good place to be on Christmas Day - with people you love, or in calm solitude. If you don't celebrate Christmas, I hope your day was peaceful and filled with love. I spent the day with Melbourne family, my Dad and his lovely partner, my brother and his awesome family. It was stinking hot but our magnificent hostess prepared a feast for 30 guests DESPITE the fact that just before lunch the power to the kitchen and water ...pumps went out!! We grabbed extension leads and got the fridges going again and all was good! Tony spent the day at home with the dog, continuing the motorbike project - a very satisfied Grinch!! Enjoy the week. I'll see you in the new year!!

01.01.2022 If you helped on the GoJoGo Campaign please come along to the Mogareeka Lions Park Sunday 23rd October for The Big Thankyou. Noon onwards!!! There's BBQs and shelter, just bring something to chuck on the hot plate or a salad, and drinks.... And please, bring your family and friends and let anyone else you know who helped, to come along... There will be cake!! XOXOXOXOX
