21.01.2022 As FIFA 20 draws to a close there was new champion crowned at the Mount Henry Tavern on Monday night. Sam Htwe could pick any side in the game, yet still opted for his beloved Arsenal. His decision proved fruitful as he worked his way through the competition to finish on top. His ambitious 3-5-2 with Mesut Ozil as the deepest midfielder was a managerial masterstroke, capping off a great performance without conceding a single goal in 6 matches. Kierath Taplin’s love ...affair with Cristiano Ronaldo was on display as he took the Juventus/Piemonte Calcio to the final, but he fell short, going 2-0 down to Htwe’s Arsenal. A few tasty Paulo Dybala strikes earned him ‘Goal of the Round’ status alongside his silver medal. Sherif Azab, often taking Bayern Munich, rounded out the podium with his usual high standard of tournament play. Azab will not doubt be looking for his maiden title after a series of top 4 finishes in the last 5 events. Get practicing on FIFA 21, we will be back soon with another tournament!
18.01.2022 Back at the old stomping ground AKA the Mount Henry Tavern for another great night of FIFA 20 action, I swear the chicken Parmi’s get bigger every week! A few Golazo OG’s came to the forefront after underperforming in previous tournaments and it was Andrew Peskett who found some of his FIFA 17 form to claim top spot with Manchester City. Despite coming up against a host of ex-champions, Andrew remained clinical in front of goal, scoring a few trademark Guardiola cut backs ...throughout the tournament as well as a 123rd minute winner from a glorious Ederson goal kick. A deserved winner indeed. Karrar Al-Bunajim has only entered 2 tournaments this year and has made the final on both occasions. Unfortunately for him, that 2019 Golazo title remains elusive after his Bayern Munich side were gunned down in the final. It’s not all bad news for Al-Bunajim, he was spotted at the Thornlie Newsagency buying 50 lotto tickets after recently packing Kylian Mbappe from an SBC in Ultimate Team. Lance Peskett’s Barcelona managed to pick up the bronze medal, his spectacular extra time winner against Jason Al-Bunajim a real highlight to cap-off a successful campaign with the Catalans. Kierath Taplin scored a drink voucher for his 4th place finish, many laughed at his decisions to choose Wolves, but the man knows how to get hold of a free pint. Thanks again to Mike, Renee and the Mount Henry staff for another solid event, adios!
18.01.2022 3 days until our first 2v2 FIFA tournament at the Mount Henry Tavern! Here are a few of Golazo Perth’s top football partnerships, who will be the next double act to enter the pantheon of greats?
16.01.2022 The Mount Henry Tavern hosted our first 2020 FIFA tournament on Tuesday night as both new and old players alike looked to start their year with a Golazo victory. In the end it was Tom Renouf’s Bayern Munich who took out first place and $100 Cash. The young maestro’s outrageous decision to play Ivan Perisic at CDM proved a managerial masterstroke as he claimed his maiden title. The wheel’s nearly came off after surrendering a 3-0 lead to Kierath taplin, but his nerves of stee...l in both the penalty shootout and the subsequent fixtures proved decisive. Although Sean Fry’s fairy tale run with Newcastle United came to a crashing halt, the fans at St James’s park can still be heard chanting Jonjo Shelvey’s name after the bald artist scored all of his sides’s goal en route to the final. In the end it was one game too many for the Sean and the Geodie’s. Newcomer Will Brehaut picked up third place and $40. One of the crowd favourites, Will’s Real Madrid side showed plenty of passion and guile as he made his way to the final 4. His opening match against rival Marcus McRostie laid the foundation for a successful debut tournament. Sonny Raphel rounded out the Semi-finalist’s, collecting a drink voucher for his efforts. After playing some scintillating football with Borussia Dortmund, he is well and truly on Golazo’s Peth’s radar as a potential champion. It was another great showing at the Mount Henry with plenty of spectators staying until the final whistle, and a few drifters floating in to catch the latter end of the tournament. Until next time!
12.01.2022 Quick Announcement! I will be working away from Perth until mid-December so Golazo Perth will be taking a break with the aim of being back up and running around Christmas/New Years. So far, the support for the Podcast, FIFA events and NPL content has been brilliant and we will bring you plenty more content as we look to kick on in 2020. ... I hope you all pack Ruud Gullit in the meantime. Cheerio!
11.01.2022 Despite league shutdowns across the globe, we still managed to get 18 contestants down to Patriots Sports Bar on Wednesday night! This may be the last Golazo for a while so it was fitting that we witnessed our first back-to-back winner in two and a half years. Thomas Bouznad took on all comers with his Napoli side and steamrolled his way through the competition (and won $90!). After receiving a lower pick due to his ‘reigning champion’ status, the French assassin barely pu...t a foot wrong and finished the tournament with a landslide victory. He even managed to win without conceding a single goal. Fantastic effort from Thomas and hopefully we can see him ply his trade sooner rather than later. Sharif Azab’s Real Madrid may have finished second but his ability to score late goals was well and truly on display. A last minute winner in our ‘Game of the Tournament’ against Dave Neilsen’s Perth Glory set the stage for another gripping encounter with Kierath Taplin’s Arsenal. Sharif would once again come up clutch in the dying moments. Golazo trouble maker Louie Granich dusted off the controller and somehow found his way into the semi-finals. His RB Leipzig side were eventually halted by Bouznad’s boys, although a 3rd place victory against good friend Kierath Taplin meant his campaign ended on a high note. Given the current global circumstances, we encourage self isolation and plenty of FIFA to pass the time and help reduce the spread. Until next time, which could be a while, cheerio!
11.01.2022 G'day all, our friends at Switch On Sport are hosting an online FIFA tournament through the Xmas period with the final taking place at The Escape Portal Gaming Lounge in Cannington on Saturday 16 January 2021. There's a $300 voucher up for grabs and it would be great to see a few Golazo Perth representatives getting involved. Be sure to head over to www.switchonsport.com.au now with group stages starting on December 18.
08.01.2022 We made our post-COVID return this week at the Mount Henry Tavern, as some old favourites battled it out for Golazo glory. It was Golazo host Louie Granich mangaed to emerge victorious from the pack with Manchester United. Given the late call up after Tom Renouf (who could’ve used Man City’s legal team) was suspended, Granich and a Luke Shaw penalty sealed the deal during Monday night’s final. As per Golazo house rules, any prize money won by the host will be donated to cha...rity at the end of the year. Still a long way off Sean Fry’s effort of $720 donated to the Starlight Foundation in 2016 Momen Mohamed Osman returned in style to earn a silver medal. His first event since a title win with Inter Milan last year, Momen’s class shone through with PSG and the Angel Di Maria-Luke Shaw battle will go down as one of the great Golazo rivalries. He will no doubt be looking to go one better next tournament. Miki Nepe also wound back the clock with Bayern Munich. Armed with the wrecking ball that is Robert Lewandowski, Nepe shone early on but had to settle for 3rd after a couple late losses. Special mention to David, Farayi and Sam who managed to pick up those drink vouchers for goal of the round, with Jeremy Versaico winning goal of the tournament with that delightful Mohamed Salah effort. Stay tuned for our next event which will be 2v2 Tournament! Who will be the best double act since Crouch and Defoe? Grab a team mate and get practicing!
08.01.2022 More 2v2 FIFA action at Patriots Sports Bar last night with some top duo’s going head-to-head for Golazo Glory! It was Sean Fry and Karrar Al Bunajim’s stellar performance with Liverpool that saw them claim top honours and 100 smackaroos! The pair’s solid defence meant they finished the tournament without conceding a single goal, while the game winner in the final showed their attacking prowess. Staring down the barrel of a penalty shootout, Mohammed Salah’s roulette and... 25-yard top corner strike in the 91st minute capped of a brilliant evening for the boyhood Liverpool fans. Tom Renouf and Louie Granich grabbed silver with some swashbuckling football using Wolverhampton Wanderers. The tournaments double elimination format meant they came up short with a pair of 1-0 losses to Fry and Al-bunajim, but a strong start earned them 2nd spot. 3rd place went to Abdul and Zach El-chami. The cousins chemistry took a while to get going after a 1st round loss. But they dug deep and fought through the treacherous loser’s bracket with Real Madrid, bringing down a few Golazo favourites along the way. Brendon Allen and Miki Nepe’s (accidental?) scorpion assist with Antione Greizemann got the ball rolling with goal of the round, while Jack Knobben and Daniel Marshall’s tasty chip with Mauro Icardi was another goal savour. Thanks to Patriots Sports Bar for another great tournament, until next time.
08.01.2022 Tonights event is still well and truly ON! Get down to Patriots Sports bar tonight at 6:30 for some hot FIFA 20 action
05.01.2022 Our 2nd doubles tournament kicks off this Wednesday night at Patriots Sports Bar in Northbridge. 6:30 start with a 7pm team draw, get in and around it!
03.01.2022 Another FIFA 20 tournament is in the books, and last nights action at Patriots Sports Bar featured a host of new players on the hunt for Golazo glory. In the end it was tournament debutant Thomas Bouznad who managed to claw his way to the top. His Real Madrid side made his way past a few former champions and all the way to the final where he continued to keep his nerve during the big occasion. The Frenchman is well and truly on the Golazo Perth radar for future tournaments.... Well done Thomas! Another player making his debut was Shehjad Ibrahim. The first contestant to use his phone during the team selection, his decision to pick Bayer Leverkusen proved fruitful as he took the German underdogs to the final. His silky play earned him a 'Goal of the Round' award as well as a runners up medal. The old guard were getting picked off left and right, but Karrar Al-Bunajim managed to win the third place play-off against Hanreesh Senghera’s PSG to grab a podium finish. After penalty shootout heart break against Bayer Leverkusen, a solid defensive effort saw his Barcelona side finish the tournament without conceding a single goal. We’ll be back with more FIFA and football content soon, Sayonara!
03.01.2022 Head down to the Mt Henry Tavern tonight for our last FIFA 20 tournament! Skip the draft and pick any team you'd like. 7 Bayern Munich's? 10 PSG's?! Maybe stay away from Liverpool or Manchester United after last night
02.01.2022 Our first 2v2 event of the year was a resounding success at the Mount Henry Tavern with 32 players taking part in our double elimination extravaganza. The competition went all the way until closing time with the games coming thick and fast. In the end it was Kierath Taplin and Louie Granich taking out top spot, courtesy of a 90th minute Eric Bailly header with Manchester United. Having played the final 2 games with 10 men, Soljskaer’s boys needed a penalty shootout win an...d some late drama to get them over the line. Once again Louie’s cut ($80) will be donated to charity at the end of the year. Runners up Sherif Azab and & Baher Ali took Manchester City to the last dance, using Leroy Sane’s pace and Kevin De Bryune finishing to great effect. They will be licking their wounds after having Taplin & Granich on the ropes and down to 10 men, maybe they should’ve changed to back 3, eh pep? Sherif has had 2 podium finishes in the last 3 tournaments, he and Baher will no doubt be looking to claim gold at next month’s event, adding to the $105 they picked up on Monday. The Bronze medal and $55 was awarded to Nabeel Iqbal and Tahir Mumtaz after a deep run with Chelsea. The duo put down a marker in the first round, sending Golazo Heavy weights Lance and Andrew Peskett down to the losers bracket with a crucial 3-2 victory. They continued to pick up wins and eventually snuck into 3rd place after a second loss at the hands of Sherif and Baher’s Man City. Congratulation to those lucky enough to win a drink voucher for goal of the round, as well as Armaan and Omid who secured a voucher and 4th spot with PSG. Thanks again to all those who came out, we will back next month at the Mount Henry and will be playing more 2v2 FIFA!
