25.01.2022 Many thanks to GCB members who assisted today with the move of heavy gear and furniture out to the HQ at Prior Street. We have just about got the worst of the move over now. We look forward to setting up for the eventual re-opening of our club. We have placed an order for the replacement bowls green which if all goes well should be installed in July. Here’s hoping. Bob Wine - Secretary
24.01.2022 Gold City Bowls is now connected with phone and internet access thanks to Telstra/NBN technician Rhys Kelly. The club has a new phone number 07 47871862. We have retained our E Maill address [email protected] .
24.01.2022 Update on the bowls green project. We discovered a drainage deficiency in the midst of removing the top surface of the foundations. All the drains were flowing back under the green and not draining away. An updated drainage system and outlet has been added. This caused a delay to the completion date. Jason from Sportcrete will return on 6 January to continue works. Most of the materials are on site or in local storage, including the carpet. It will be full steam ahead when Jason returns 6/1.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to South Townsville for their win in the men’s NQ Blue Pennants. They were one of GCB’s toughest opponents in our last game on Saturday. Gold City team played as a team for the whole weekend and can be very proud of our efforts. We won 3 games and had one draw. Some of our other games were quite close and could gone either way. This was all done with some of us not having played since December when our green replacement started. Good news on that front. Jason is on track to complete the new Greengauge carpet green by the end of this week so we can get back to the business end of bowls. It is noteworthy that we have funded this new green with our own resources from the proceeds of the sale of our previous property in Mary/Ryan Street. We received no grant funds to assist as none was available.
12.01.2022 Gold City Bowls is registered to play 2021 Blue Men’s Pennants at Bowen on 16 -18 April. A club pennants nomination sheet currently has 15 names of available members recorded. Nominations will remain open until close of business on Friday 26 March. The 3 club selectors will then immediately proceed to select 12 players for the confirmed 3 teams in their appropriate positions. Members are requested to ensure that they are definitely available to play on the specified dates prior to final selections. Members who are not selected may consider joining composite sides in the Purple Pennants section with smaller clubs seeking players.
12.01.2022 2 wins today in the blue pennants against Noorla & Thuringowa. Well done guys especially with limited games played since Xmas. A big day tomorrow with 3 games to play.
11.01.2022 Progress on the bowls green project has been affected by a drainage issue. It has been identified that the original drainage system did not have an exit and water seeping through the green remained in the internal drains. Jason the Sportcrete contractor has provided a solution which will require a drain pipe around the internal boundaries of the green linked up to the internal drains and an external drain exit. This situation was an original design glitch from 15 years ago and probably contributed to highs and lows on the bowls green surface over the previous years. The extra work will amount to a delay in the completion date and the expected finish date will be approximately mid January. This delay will prove to be worthwhile to ensure a much better end result. Members and friends please be patient.
08.01.2022 Gold City Bowls conducted the draw for the Xmas raffle on Saturday 28/11 and winners as follows: 1546 B Donaldson 2890 Isobel Hicks 3116 G Jones 1002 C McIntosh... Congratulations to all prize winners and many thanks for CT community support for our raffle in tough times. Merry Xmas to all. See more
04.01.2022 Gold City Bowls is one more step towards a long awaited replacement carpet bowls green. Works will commence on Wednesday 25 November and should be completed pre-Xmas. We have managed to undertake this project with funds from the proceeds of the sale of the Mary Street property. No grant funds offered or available.
03.01.2022 Gold City Bowls has commenced roll up bowls on a limited basis for members. Days for roll up 2 hour sessions are Tuesday morning with Robyn Seibold, Thursday evening 6-8pm with Bob Wine, Saturday & Sunday 1-3pm with Dan Speer. Bookings are required with a limit of 10 persons per session. Please note the bar remains closed until further notice and if you require water bring your own. Social distancing and hygiene practises must be observed throughout roll up sessions.
03.01.2022 The carpet is more than half way installed. Harry & Errol have done a great job with the grass surrounds and painting the exterior of the buildings. It is starting to look like a bowls club. A far cry from the neglected property of 12 months ago. Looks like there is good chance of continuing bowls in Charters Towers for some years to come.
02.01.2022 Congratulations to Aron MacPherson winner of the 2020 A Singles final yesterday, with runner up Adrian Peno.
01.01.2022 GCB received settlement payment this week for the sale of its Mary Street property. The club is now permanently based at 12-14 Prior Street Charters Towers. We are most thankful that the sale was completed pre Covid19. The mind boggles at the likely outcome otherwise. We may have been stuck with 2 properties and limited options for sale. We have paid a deposit on a carpet bowls green scheduled for installation in July if all goes to schedule. Let’s hope there are no delays.
