10.01.2022 GOLD COAST FISHING REPORT 20/21st June 2020 GOLD COAST OFFSHORE FISHING.... With reasonable weather forecast this weekend, it’s all go to get out offshore and ...catch a feed of reef fish. If you are fishing in on the close 18-24fathom reefs off the Seaway, expect to catch Squire and the odd descent Snapper, Parrotfish, Maori Cod, Cobia and Mulloway ( Jewies ). Out further on the 36 fathom reefs, plenty of Squire and mixed reef fish to be caught. Try fishing with lighter leads and using a couple of snelled hooks and WA Pilchards for bait. The fads along the 36 fathom reefs are still producing plenty of Dolphinfish. On the 50 fathom reefs plenty of quality size Snapper and mixed reef fish. Grab your jigging gear and have a jig on many of the schooled up Yellowtail Kingfish and Amberjack along the 85-100 mtrs depth off the Gold Coast at the moment. Best areas have been off the Jumpinpin around S27 43 E153 43 and they are also starting to school up a bit around S28 01 E153 46. Might have to wait to next weekend before you get a chance to deep drop out wide due to the weather, but try around Riv grounds and Tweed Canyon area for Bar Cod and a Blue Eye. As for trolling there have been quite a few decent sized Black Marlin and Striped Marlin being hooked on bottom fishing gear along many of our offshore Snapper grounds at the moment. Try live baiting for them as they are down deep feeding on the bottom fish and bait at the moment. Out wider a few Blue Marlin, Wahoo and Dolphinfish around that 200-600mtr Depth. Yellowfin Tuna are still being caught in that 600mtr plus depth at the moment. NORTHERN BROADWATER AND JUMPINPIN. This last week has seen plenty of Flathead caught around Tipplers and Pandanus Island areas of the Jumpinpin. Again casting soft plastics or hard body lures has been working best. Tailor have been caught casting metal lures up around the northern end of South Stradebroke Island. Plenty of Bream around the western side of the Jumpinpin area as well as around the deep mud banks of Crusoe and Short Islands. Try for Sand Crabs around Tipplers Channel and Couran Cove area. BROADWATER AND BEACHES The Seaway this past week has been fishing very well. With catches of Flathead, small Snapper, some solid sized Jewfish and still the odd Mangrove Jack. Try fishing along the inside of the Seaway north wall drifting with live baits. Also casting poppers into the whitewater against the rocks will produce big Tailor and the odd GT Trevally and even the odd Doggie Mackerel . Spanish Mackerel are still in the Seaway at the moment, with at least 3 fish being hooked and lost boat side this past week. All three fish were hooked whilst drifting for Jewfish with live baits and then were bitten off next to the boat. The Squid are starting to be caught around the many weed beds along the western foreshore of the Broadwater at the moment in these morning high tides. Plenty of Parrot fish being caught drifting the Shelly bottom along the main western channel of the BROADWATER ( as seen in Brad Smiths Charter Buat pictures), from Sovereign Island to Biggera Creek, Yabbies or Preserved beach worms have been working well to catch them. The rivers are starting to fire up again for Whiting at night in the Nerang River and daytime in the Coomera and Pimpama Rivers. Plenty of 25-32cm. A few Whiting along the Spit and surf beaches. Some Quality sized Tailor are also starting to bite along our beaches at the moment, try using WA Pilchards for bait or spin with 50-80 gram lures during the morning. Try for Mmm Sand Crabs around Sovereign Island in the deep channel edges. SOUTHERN GOLD COAST AND BEACHES Tailor are being caught along our southern beaches late afternoon. Sea Bream and Dart are also in the surf at the moment. Bream are also being caught along the rock walls throughout the Tweed Rivers and the creeks south of Burleigh Heads. Try for Giant Herring and Trevally in some of the land locked lakes throughout the southern Gold Coast area, fish the pipe areas where the water flows through and being the best areas to fish. Still the odd Mangrove Jack in the deeper holes of the Tweed River on live Herring and Mullet Fillets. FRESHWATER DAMS AND CREEKS. Another amazing week of Bass fishing in the Hinze Dam. Try the eastern arm of the Hinze Dam, fishing the tree line and grass beds with Spinnerbaits, spinners and micro jigs. There has been plenty of Talapia everywhere if you want to help control them out of our waterways, Thankyou. - [ ] WHATS ON!! - [ ] Watch and learn from our How to videos on our new You Tube Channel.....
