22.01.2022 One of our regular customers is a local kindergarten based on the Gold Coast. We have cleared several blocked toilets for them in the past (little people using too much loo paper, non-flushable items going down the drain, etc), but when the issue didn't seem to go away, it was time to pull out the big gun: the drain inspection camera. The inspection of the sewer line revealed a major blockage caused by tree roots as well as structural damage to the pipe work. Not good! Th...e solution was to dig up the broken section and replace it with brand new pipes. Don't they look good? An interesting study back in 2015 at the University of California San Diego, involved humans paying attention to a fake, stuffed dog that moved and made sound, in front of their own dog. They also handled a book and a plastic jack-o-lantern in the same setting. The study concluded that dogs experienced jealousy when the human was engaged ...with the fake dog! What does jealousy in a dog look like you ask? Well, while their owner was touching the fake dog, the real dog would try to touch their owner, try to get between the human and fake dog, bark, bite and even whine! You gotta love 'em! As experienced plumbers, we install, replace and remove garbage disposals and to help you get the most life from your unit, we've put together the following list: First the DO Not's:... Never pour grease down the drain Avoid vegetable or fruit peel as they can get stuck to the sides of your disposal (in our experience, these cause more harm than good) No meat, skin from meat, fat or bones - just don't do it! No rice, pasta or oats unless you want to clog your pipes Eggshells will also stick to the inside of your disposal The DO's: Run cold water first, then turn on the disposal. The videography is far from outstanding (hey, we're plumbers not Steven Spielberg) and windows have since been cleaned .... The office staff was quick to react and called South East Reptile Relocations to remove the uninvited guest. The Eastern Brown was a fairly good size and at first, did not want to leave! 09.01.2022 Is it a dreadlock?? Is it an anaconda?? Is it what the cat dragged in last night?? No! This is what our drain clearing expert Jamie recently pulled out of a stormwater pipe. It's no wonder the customer was experiencing flooding at his property during heavy rain! ... You may ask, "how do tree roots get in the pipes in the first place?" Great question. The thing is, trees require nutrients to survive and look for moisture so they naturally gravitate towards pipes. The slightest crack or loose joint in the pipes means a relatively easy entry for smaller roots, and these can grow quickly in a short period of time. Small roots become stronger, thicker and more entangled - just like what you see in the photo here.
