23.01.2022 Gold Coast Suburb Profile Part 3 Tugun History... In 1925 the Seaside Hotel was constructed in Tugun as the town’s pub. In those days it was a huge boast the town could make that the facilities of the hotel included a first class septic system and even electricity. Years later the hotel burnt to the ground but was rebuilt at a huge cost of 14,000 pounds. The hotel stands today as a landmark of this sleepy, old heritage town. Nestled just south of Currumbin and spreading west to the beautiful views of the Hinterland, Tugun is a small suburb able to boast great surfing beaches and a laidback lifestyle. The Surf Life Saving Club has been proudly patrolling this beach for over 80 years and still does today (with new fresh members of course). The recently opened Tugun Bypass gives you a high speed motorway link between the Gold Coast and New South Wales while allowing the old Gold Coast Highway to become a sleepy beachfront haven for shopping and dining with numerous boutiques, local cafes and restaurants. Ocean front properties run along Tugun beach with phenomenal views and immediate beach access. Close to the Gold Coast Airport the area is a popular holiday destination with a number of holiday apartments and motels lining the beach. Sporting Facilities in Tugun Tugun Surf Life Saving Club Beginning patrols on Tugun Beach in 1925, the Tugun SLSC has a fascinating history. Under 15s can join the junior life saving club and train in surf safety, board paddling and rescue, beach activities, basic resuscitation and first aid. Website: www.tugunslsc.com.au While there are no other sporting facilities actually within Tugun aside from the beach itself, there are more than 20 facilities within 10km in the neighbouring suburbs. Tallebudgera Golf Course Only a 10 minute drive from Tugun, the Tallebudgera Golf Course (formerly a dairy farm) is now a popular 18 hole golf course for members and the general public. Open from daylight to dusk, 7 days a week.
