24.01.2022 Pictured is a beautiful brooch sent to us by one of our Warrnambool customers which has a 15ct gold band and a natural gold nugget embedded in between two initi...als. The entire brooch weighs 7 grams. The customer came to us seeking advice on the potential origins of the brooch, as they had been told by one person that it may have been made in the 1890s, and another opinion was that it may have been made by a tinsmith in the 1860s. We can at least conclude that it was made before the 1930s when 15ct gold was discontinued, and may have been worn in the goldfields as a personal show of wealth. If you have any more information be sure to get in touch so that we can pass it on! See more

23.01.2022 This article is a great read, and it even features our very own Justin's partner Hayley who describes how he ignited her love for prospecting at the beginning of Covid. Check it out! https://www.abc.net.au//metal-detecting-on-rise-/12864200

23.01.2022 This story from an SDC 2300 user is sure to get the gold fever running! He was detecting on a patch that he had pulled over 400 nuggets from over a period of 6... years. One afternoon, in particular, he went out prospecting with a mate and returned with 81 pieces, pulled from small gutters in the bedrock. The biggest from the creek was a nice 10 grammer, but the average had been 0.2 of a gram. He'd used many different detectors there, including a GP 3500, GPX 5000 and the SDC 2300. He thought surely he had thrashed it to death, until he gave the Coiltek Gold Extreme 10x5" coil on his SDC a go and to his amazement was able to pull out another 16 pieces of gold in one day of using it! This convinced him to go and purchase the other two sizes in the SDC Gold Extreme range.

22.01.2022 We recently ran our three day gold prospecting boot-camp in Maryborough VIC and it was a roaring success! A group of 10 tour clients, some new and some returning, set out with their detectors and picks and spent three days in the Victorian Golden Triangle on a combination of public access and private land to see what they could find. All in all about 50 gold nuggets and some beautiful gold specimens were found over the duration of the boot-camp as well as a LOT of lead shot (as I'm sure you can imagine)! The tour guides shared plenty of prospecting knowledge as did John Tully, our guest speaker and author of the very popular gold maps that we sell at Lucky Strike Gold. What a fantastic three days! Thank-you to the wonderful bunch that joined us.

21.01.2022 Recently we took a lovely lady and her partner on a Gold & Relics gold prospecting tour in Creswick, VIC. These particular goldfields held significance for her, as she owned a beautiful little specimen (pictured) that she inherited from her mother, who had found it years ago with her own sister and father in the very same goldfields. Her mother's passion for prospecting is what motivated her to join us on tour. With our guidance, hopefully she can find another gold nugget of her own to pass down the generations! https://goldandrelics.com.au/

20.01.2022 Have a look at these awesome gold nuggets from the Central Victorian goldfields. These nuggets weigh from 2 grams up to 20 grams. This is some of a collection... of gold nuggets that our customer decided to sell. He has been saving them up for a rainy day and with the Covid lockdown that rainy day has arrived. Isn't it great to have something to fall back on!? See more

05.01.2022 Darren was shown an area the other day which had been prospected. There were large holes left open and the area had been raked. It beggars belief that prospectors are still doing this. To those prospectors who think it’s okay to leave their holes open, there is a better way. If you fill your holes in, compact the dirt and place sticks and leaves over it, you’re not giving your spot away. And when a new detector comes out only you know that exact spot so you can go and reap the rewards. Darren has found most of his large gold nuggets and patches near somebody else’s open holes. When the GPX 6000 comes out have a guess where he will be taking it! (eg photo source: https://www.prospectingaustralia.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php)

05.01.2022 Holly here from Lucky Strike Gold Recently the team went out to Elaine, VIC to do some detecting. I had a good go on the Minelab SDC 2300, GPX 5000 and GPZ 70...00. Pictured below I am set up with the 5000, 12" Evolution coil and Steelphase Enhancer (a great setup) but it was with the 7000 that I found a nice little 0.43 gram nugget. It was relatively close to the surface too, no more than an inch down! The 7000 was quiet and smooth in the mineralised soil... I was surprised to find that my weak little arms didn't struggle too badly at all with the extra weight of the GPZ 7000, but the Pro Swing 45 harness and bunji cord really made all the difference. The weather was absolutely perfect, a sunny 20 degrees - the only time I found I got a bit too hot was when I sprinted 150 metres back to the cars to show Darren, Leanne and Paul my find in my excitement. Note to self, don't do that. All in all, a great day!

02.01.2022 Look at this stunning crystalline nugget Have you found any strange shaped pieces of gold? Drop a photo below of your favourite bit! This 4.5 gram piece was recently purchased from a customer and is now part of Darren's private collection of crystal gold.
