What a night we had, shaking and stirring and sharing banter and creating great memories in the Tasmanian state heat of the Australian Coupe Cocktail Competition :) Congratulations to Bella Byrne and Cam Nicol for making it through to the National Final. It's especially amazing considering the quality of the competition, with excellent drinks coming from Ewen, Hawkeye, Seb and Hedley... 25.01.2022 The bar is closed again this weekend For those who are concerned I don't have the corona virus (I have never found that beer appealing) I have some sort of nerve infection in my face, which if unmonitored and cared for could lead to Bell's Palsy The doctors don't think its infectious, but are insisting on rest, and if you know what Bell's Palsy is you'd understand my wish to avoid it ... All is going well other than the extreme fatigue and disorientation from the war between my immune system and the infection I hope you are all staying healthy and being kind to each while I am not around Cheers, - Ian

15.01.2022 On a hill behind Salamanca, tucked between a hotel and a park is a tiny little distillery being run by some talented and passionate young legends Jack Lark and Louis Duckett are making excellent use of this space and are putting out some excellent products I was lucky enough to taste some very promising work-in-progress whisky, as well as sample an exciting experimental absinthe. I was also able to pick up some of their awesome gin... For all of you folks Gold Bar will have the House of Lenna gin as our special gin of the week We are open Friday and Saturday night from five. 14.01.2022 We took the chance to visit Lawrenny Estate earlier this week. It's a amazing distillery on a beautiful property in a stunning part of Tasmania. If you like gin, vodka, or coffee liqueurs then they already have something which you will thoroughly enjoy. If you love your whisky as well then they will have something for you in the very near future Get there if you can (please call ahead), otherwise keep an eye out for their products

13.01.2022 This week we snuck out to the Coal River Valley to visit some of Tasmania's oldest and newest stills Lark Distillery's copper pot stills have been lifting our spirits for nearly eighteen years now. This is a bit beyond the lifetime of many stills but they are continuing to produce fantastic new-make under the guidance of their talented and hardworking team The crew on the malting room floor is also excited to have a new charge in their care. A Tasmanian designed, engineered a...nd built, steam-powered, continuous still capable of producing amazing amounts of neutral spirit. There's so much to get geeky about with this new arrival, but we couldn't even fit a full picture of it in one of our photos so you'd best to book in for a long chat If you would like to get as geeky as I do you should check in with the crew at Lark and see if they can take you on a tour soon @ Coal River Valley Wine Region

Here's a couple of interstate special to excite you for the new imports Four Pillars Changing Seasons Gin is a juniper and pine forward delight rounded by floral and citrus notes. Archie Rose has finally released their much anticipated Single Malt Whisky to market. The bottle just arrived today and we're quite excited to show off this sticky-date pudding tasting dram... 04.01.2022 This week we journied past Port Arthur to drop in on Bill McHenry and his crew. As always the Tasman Peninsula provided for a beautiful drive with some excellent stops on the way, but it was certainly McHenry's Distillery which got us really excited. Even if we'd ignored the stunning surrounds, we would have still left feeling absolutely thrilled. The amount of new buildings, new equipment, and new ideas gave us plenty to be excited about on the long journey home.... These guys are making magic and turning it into even more magic.
