25.01.2022 Aren’t guinea pig babies amazing?!! Just six days old and already munching away on Oxbow pellets and our shelter mix They’re also eating veggies and hay and have started turning their cute little noses up at the Womberoo formula I don’t think we need to worry about these little guys

24.01.2022 Say hello to our most recently desexed boys Benji has already been put on hold. Jack, Kransky and Fonzie will be available just in time for Christmas

23.01.2022 Four year old Charlie was brought to the shelter today to find a new friend. We introduced him to eight week old Zen who was the last baby left from our Slacks Creek litters. We would normally have tried for a piggy around Charlie’s age but he’d been on his own for quite a while and hadn’t proven to be too keen on other adult males. Zen is a gentle, loving little boy and he and Charlie hit it off immediately You have to admit, they make a cute couple

22.01.2022 It’s Piggy Sponsorship Day!!! And yes I know I originally made Tuesdays the day to showcase our sponsored piggies but as I invariably forget I’ve decided any day can be Piggy Sponsorship Day!! So today I’d like to thank Sarah Bennet for being a cage sponsor for the last four years Sarah, her sister Emma and Emma’s partner Robert were kind enough to transport all 38 piggies from the now infamous Maryborough rescue in September 2016 to our shelter in Pimpama. So it seems fitting that Sarah’s sponsored cage includes Rupert who is the last of our Maryborough babies

22.01.2022 WANTED!! New good quality items for us to raffle off at the Pig Day Out!! These can include gift vouchers from local businesses, small animal products, homewares etc! Please message this page if you would like to donate ~ Alex

20.01.2022 I inadvertently booked the Pig Day Out on the Qld Labour Day long weekend!! I chose the 2nd May so as not to clash with Mother’s Day, plus the venue was booked for the other two Sundays in May. I considered moving the event to June but the barn is already booked for the first three Sundays, and then at the end of June there’s the school holidays. It really has become difficult to find a date where there isn’t either a public holiday or school holidays so we’re sticking with 2nd May and hope most of you will be able to attend. Advance ticket sales (neccessary due to COVID restrictions) will be starting soon so keep an eye on this page for further notifications

18.01.2022 Sweet baby boy

17.01.2022 This adoption was done yesterday and saw Astro, one of our youngest males, successfully paired with three year old Thor who was adopted from us in December 2018. Thor didn’t make the pairing process easy and said no to the first four males we introduced him to Astro is around eight weeks of age and unlike the first four boys was tolerant of Thor’s interest in him For the time being he looks up to Thor as his nurturer and protector. Hopefully he won’t become dominant as he gets older

17.01.2022 Richelle, one of our volunteers, finally gave in to temptation today and adopted our blind piggy Zeus Zeus has been blind in both eyes since birth. He was surrendered several weeks ago and shortly afterwards we attempted to pair him with another special needs piggy but it didn’t work out. Richelle fostered him for a few nights after that, then reluctantly returned him to the shelter. But seeing him today proved too much and she decided to give him a permanent home

12.01.2022 Piper was adopted from us a year ago but over the past few months had lost her friends so Debbie brought her back to the shelter today to find a new one. We tried Emily and it was a perfect match Emily was one of three females rescued two months ago when they were left behind at a rental property in Southport.

09.01.2022 One of our baby girls has been having Tricin applied to her right eye twice a day to heal a scratch to the eyeball. The tube is almost as long as she is Note: As you can see her eye is almost back to normal

08.01.2022 Just to clear up some confusion in regards to where the shelter is situated - in 2016 when we closed our shop in Labrador, I tried changing the info on our Google business page. Because I run the rescue from my home, I didn’t want to make the address public, but Google won’t accept just a suburb as they need a street address. If I don’t enter a street address, we’re listed as permanently closed. So to maintain our presence on Google, I’ve had to retain the old address which o...f course causes some confusion for anyone googling to find out where we are situated. I’ve entered Pimpama as another location but there’s nowhere on the site to leave the info that I’m posting here. So this post won’t help with future google searches conducted by people who don’t know anything about us. But at least our hours are listed and I’m in the process of adding photos and descriptions of all our products. Side Note: When we vacated the shop, AWL took it over to use as an Op Shop. I drove by there yesterday and saw they’d moved out and the shop was up for lease. For a fleeting moment I thought yeah let’s lease it again but I quickly reminded myself of the nightmare of running an Op Shop, and the toll it took on my health travelling from Pimpama to Labrador almost every day (M1 users, you’ll know what I’m talking about ), and trying to keep the shop and the shelter operating. So as much as I loved having a shop and a business address, yeah nah won’t be going there again SEE PHOTO OF OUR OLD SHOP AT TURPIN RD LABRADOR IN COMMENTS

08.01.2022 Trying very hard to find a new friend for Thor (on the left) but he’s making it very difficult This two month old baby is our fifth intro and so far the most successful. Fingers crossed

07.01.2022 Cuddles is one of our longterm residents still waiting for his forever home. He did get adopted in August last year but when his new friend died he was returned to the shelter He’s a lovely friendly boy, quite easy to pair, so if you have a lonely male around three or four years of age, maybe Cuddles could be his new friend

07.01.2022 Today we did two male pairings which saw one of our youngest piggies, and one of our oldest, go to new homes I’ll start with the oldest - Monobrow or Monnie for short. Monnie was born at the shelter in 2015 and adopted when he was a few weeks old. Sadly his owner’s circumstances changed recently and he was returned to the shelter. I’m overjoyed to see him make a new friend in four year old Jeff who lost his friend about a year ago. It’s so awesome that Monnie and Jeff now have a friend with whom to share their twilight years

06.01.2022 It’s almost fifteen years since I started the shelter and in that time I’ve never adopted a guinea pig into a single piggy home. I’ve always been adamant that a guinea pig needs at least one friend of their own kind. Today I broke my own rule and allowed Louie to be adopted to live out his life as a single piggy. I have my reasons - George and Fai lost their beloved Joe a few days ago. Joe was just three years old and they’d had him since he was a baby. Joe was part of the fa...mily, living indoors uncaged, doted on and loved unconditionally. His death was totally unexpected but as we know, guinea pigs can appear healthy and robust one minute and at death’s door the next. We’ve all been there. Missing Joe’s wheeks and cuddles, George approached me to adopt a young male in need of a loving home. I mulled it over and reached the conclusion it was better for one of my boys to go to a home where, although there were no other piggies, he would have almost constant human companionship and be cherished and well cared for. I had a certain piggy in mind - one who I’d been paying special attention to for the last few weeks in the way of extra veggies, treats and cuddles. Louie (named today by George) came in the Slacks Creek rescue in July. He seemed more sensitive than the other piggies and always looked a bit sad so I took him under my wing and after a couple of weeks his demeanour started to improve. He began interacting with his neighbour, and not running away when I tried to pick him up. Louie seemed to be more of a people pig than a pig’s pig and I thought he would be a good choice for George and Fai. As soon as Fai laid eyes on him she decided this was going to be their new family member. I’m very happy for Louie as I know he’s never going to want for attention and his every need will be met and then some See more
