23.01.2022 For over 80 years, cadets of the Australian Air League have taken part and assisted in ANZAC Day Dawn Services and Parades across Australia. The Australian Air ...League was founded in 1934 by Mr George Robey who was himself one of the original ANZACs, and a veteran of the Gallipoli Landing. Whilst the current COVID situation prevents Australians gathering together, we are proud to take part in Light Up the Dawn this coming ANZAC Day. Our thanks go to the Cadets and Officers, and their parents who helped to make this video possible.

20.01.2022 How cool is this?! Two of our Cadets, who attend Lutheran Ormeau Rivers District School (LORDS), have a write up about them in this week’s school newsletter! Congratulations Cdt. Hesketh and Cdt. West!! Hopefully some of your school friends will come to join us soon too

20.01.2022 We couldn’t be much prouder of our Squadron at the moment, after their incredible efforts over this weekend! With a predominantly new Squadron (first time at Group Review), we managed to walk away with our heads held high after claiming 16 trophies!!! Everyone participated with such graciousness and enthusiasm, and having every member (Cadets and Officers) participate in every sports event today contributed to a clean sweep of sports trophies!! WELL DONE GOLD COAST!!!

16.01.2022 A sincere THANK YOU to all of our Cadets, who took time out of their day to pay tribute to the ANZACs and our service men and women, both past and present. We are so proud of the efforts that you have all put in. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,... We will remember them. Lest we forget. #lightupthedawn #anzacathome #lestweforget #wewillrememberthem

14.01.2022 Gold Coast Squadron Cadets had a ball participating in Clean Up Australia Day today. We even stopped for a break to create a TikTok video. So many laughs, and we did our bit by collecting a heap of rubbish from around Oxenford Lake! #CleanUpAustralia #StepUpToCleanUp #aalgcfam #gcrocks2021 #seaofgreen

14.01.2022 Last weekend saw 5 Cadets and 1 intrepid Officer head to Currimundi on the Sunshine Coast for Queensland Group Recreation Camp. This camp is just for Cadets aged 13 years and over, and an amazing opportunity for our older Cadets to form friendships with those from other Squadrons across Queensland, and take some time out for a little bit of fun tailored just for them! Despite the torrential rain, the group had an amazing time, and participated in a wide range of activities including Canoeing, Archery, Giant Swing, Catapult Building and a variety of sports, along with team building challenges. This is the first time this camp has been held, and was a definite hit with the Cadets who attended - they are all looking forward to going again next year!

13.01.2022 INTRODUCING 2021 QLD CADET OF THE YEAR AND QLD JUNIOR CADET OF THE YEAR!!! The most prestigious recognition for our Cadets in the Queensland Group is the Cadet of the Year competition. Over the weekend, 2021 title holders were announced, and Gold Coast Squadron is the proud home of both Cadet of the Year, Sergeant Napier, and Junior Cadet of the Year, Cadet Hesketh. Both of these cadets put in a massive amount of effort throughout the year, and are well deserving of their titles. We can’t wait to see what you achieve next! WELL DONE TO BOTH OF YOU!

12.01.2022 Check out what we got up to last night! The Officers are so proud of all of our Cadets - 100% attendance, 7 batches of ANZAC Biscuits, 6 flashing LED circuits, 6 diamond kites and 4 sets of Semaphore Flags all made last night. And of course, we also spent time studying Aviation Theory and catching up with friends too. What an action packed night! Looking forward to playing Are You Smarter than the OC? next week... you’d better get studying, Mr Dugdale!

12.01.2022 Gold Coast Squadron Cadets stood together even though they were apart to commemorate ANZAC Dat 25th April, 2020. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning... We will remember them. Lest We Forget.

11.01.2022 Our Cadets did us super proud last night, with all four groups managing to solve their Escape Room mysteries!! Air League is all about Fun, Friendship and Flying, and sometimes it’s good to step away from the aviation aspect for a night to focus exclusively on FUN and FRIENDSHIP!! So proud of our group of 8-9 year olds that managed to escape the fastest, with no hints!! We are super impressed by everyone’s efforts last night, and can’t wait to be back at our hall next week

10.01.2022 And we’re back!!! After over three months of suspension from face-to-face activities, Gold Coast Squadron returned with excitement last night. It was so good to see Cadets and Officers back in formal uniform and engaging with each other again. If you have a child aged between 8 and 18 years old, with an interest in aviation, send us a message to find out how to get them involved.

02.01.2022 Last Friday was the last night of term before the Easter holidays for Gold Coast Squadron, and what a fun, action packed night it was! Cadets completed Physical Activities assessments, exams in General Proficiency, Astronomy, Rotary Wing, and Meteorology, drill assessments, and built chuck gliders. We even managed to find time for a super special supper of Hot Cross Buns and Easter Eggs served by our wonderful Branch Committee Secretary, Carol Hesketh - thank you for fuelling... the craziness Ms Hesketh! A big congratulations to our brand new Leading Cadets - Hesketh and McEwen-Webber. Well done on your new ranks, and we look forward to working with you both to continue progressing and improving your leadership skills within the Squadron. Congratulations also to all of our newer Cadets who received Membership and Induction Certificates on Friday night - it's a pleasure to have you all as a part of the Gold Coast Squadron. We hope that you all have a fantastic Easter break! Enjoy time with family and friends, stay safe, and don't get sick from too much chocolate! We will see you all back on Friday 23 April, ready to prepare for ANZAC Day services. For anyone seeing how much fun these Cadets are having, and wanting to give Air League a try, we offer a free three week trial. Our next Induction starts on Friday 7 May - please message as soon as possible if you are interested; due to having a waitlist from Term 1, there are very limited places available!
