22.01.2022 Join the latest Level Up Arty Bites workshop online and explore creativity from wherever you are! In ‘Simple coiled weaving’ with Desert-Rain Magpie participants will be shown a simple coiled weaving technique which may be used to make small objects such as earrings or applied on a larger scale to make bowls and baskets. This technique is able to be woven by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous people of any gender, using natural fibres and/or contemporary materials. Desert-Rai...n Magpie is a Noongar woman from South-West Western Australia currently living and raising a family on Kombumerri Country in the Gold Coast. This workshop goes for 45 minutes and is suitable for participants aged 16+. We’ve included a creative materials list below, so you’re prepared for the workshop: Two 1m strands of a contemporary or natural fibre of your choice for the core of your weaving. The artist’s suggestions include jute, wool, recycled t-shirts or paper raffia, which can be found at discount and craft stores. A secondary contemporary or natural fibre for weaving around the core, cut into approximately 1m lengths for ease of use A needle with a large eye, either plastic or metal is suitable Scissors Arty Bites is a monthly series of art workshops aimed at providing access to art experiences to young people and adults within the local community.
