23.01.2022 UPDATE: Thanks for your patience here folks there's been contradictory information. We've been communicating the advice on masks as best we had available, but... it has changed throughout the day, with a new health direction issued this afternoon. Queensland Health says the mask requirement applies to the whole state, not just Greater Brisbane. That means they're required on the Gold Coast. Masks must be carried at all times, and worn in indoor places such as shopping centres and retail outlets and when using public transport. They should also be used outdoors, when social distancing isn't possible. Children under 12 - and people with medical conditions - are exempt. The rules come into effect from 5pm, Monday until 5pm Thursday (pending a review on Wednesday). Greater Brisbane will enter a lockdown from 5pm Monday. Schools in greater Brisbane (Ipswich, Logan, Redlands, Moreton and Brisbane council areas) will be closed for three days. People in Greater Brisbane will only be able to leave their homes for essential reasons like grocery shopping, exercise, essential work, and medical care (and must wear masks). For the rest of Queensland, including the Gold Coast, masks should be worn when physical distancing is not possible (eg public transport, shops). If you have been in Greater Brisbane since March 20, the lockdown requirements apply to you as well. "If your home is normally outside Brisbane, you have come into Brisbane to work for the day, as we know a lot of people do, of course you can then return to your home but anyone who has been in that greater Brisbane area since Saturday, 20 March, is now required to follow those same requirements, that is to stay wherever they are except for those four reasons," Queensland's Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said.
