18.01.2022 Chemical Mowing- Gold Coast City Council is again considering chemical mowing of our parks to save money. Gecko opposed this practice last time it surfaced and we will again. There have been several letters of objection in the local media as well. Spraying chemicals to mow grass that is used by children and both wild and domestic animals is just not on. If we have two much grass perhaps they could consider planting out some of it with native plants instead, while still leaving enough for picnics and play.

11.01.2022 Boral denies native wildlife will suffer due to their proposed new Gold Coast quarry and in walking distance to Burleigh Beach ... and at the gateway to our hin...terland. Boral claims wildlife will cope with the blasts every Thursday, the thick silica rich dust, the trucks (about 639 per day, around 54 per hour), their polluted (sludge run off in heavy weather) water and dust covered vegetation supply. Boral is WRONG, very, very wrong! See more

01.01.2022 This is one of those images of a female Satin Bowerbird that reaches deep within and lingers long in our memory. Nicolas Rakotopare just seems to capture such m...oments often. We will bring you more of his exquisite images from this special heartland of Gondwana. Satin Bowerbirds, unique to Australia, have made their home at "Warblers in the Mist" where we often work. It was so nice to find a bower last week. Like lyrebirds and scrub-birds, bowerbirds are one of the oldest Gondwanan lineages of songbirds known. The Satin Bowerbird is said to be the longest living passerine known (26 years), although our ex-Vice President Syd Curtis has evidence that "George" the lyrebird at Lamington NP lived over 30 years.
