25.01.2022 This was shared in another group and I felt it needed to be shared around as it is very true for what we feel Apologies, author unknown at the time of sharing this. "I wear the pin of a Girl Guide; I try to live the Law. I have often said the Promise, when life held only flaws.... But it’s not the pin nor the Promise, nor just the Law I live That causes me to love this Guiding It’s the feeling Guiding can give. You have to live it to know it: When the sun has sunk down low You must sing with other Girl Guides, around the campfire’s glow. You must plan a cookout with them, and have it spoiled by the rain, You must sing instead of crying, and make the plans again. You should hike for many a mile, under a clear blue sky. Then sleep in the open country, and watch the stars go by. There are no words to express it, it can’t be told in song. You just must experience it; it will not take you long. It is brought out when you are singing, as loud as you can sing. And again in the peaceful silence, when a flag is taking wing. Then when you salute the flag, you know that you belong, And Taps cannot end this feeling, after the day is done. You will want to meet tomorrow, in hope that you can live To pass on some of this feeling, only Guiding can give. So it’s not the pin nor Promise, nor just the Law I live, That causes me to love Girl Guides it’s the feeling Guiding can give"

23.01.2022 A message from the State Commissioner: From the golden beaches of the Gold Coast Region, Paulie is a long time leader from the Nerang Power Rangers . You would ...be mistaken to think all our leaders are loud extroverts. Paulie is a great example of how our quiet achievers mean so much to us too! Shes friendly to all, an extremely hard worker and has no problem jumping in and leading a hand (or two) wherever it is needed. Thank you Paulie, please know that your hard-work, commitment and leadership doesnt go unnoticed. #girlguidesgoplaces #nvw2020 #leadingtheway #volunteeringisfun #waveforvolunteers #girlguidesqueensland #bravo

21.01.2022 BRAVO to all the women and men who volunteer in our region Without our leaders there would be no units, so a big thank you to you all!

21.01.2022 WHY I BECAME A LEADER...... I am a leader because I want the world for my daughter & mine, a world which she can share & help share, a world of lov...e & laughter where she can show compassion. I want her to look at the stars, a sunset, the work & the world of God; & to feel its beauty inside herself. I want to help women who have the strength of character & are sensitive to the needs of others, to contribute in whatever way they can to the world. I want them to be the best they can be whether as career women or homemakers, wives & mothers who are the heart of the family. In giving of myself & my time I get rewards far beyond what I give, I receive for my children & those of future generations a better world in which we live. I am a member of guiding because I care ............... (written by a leader in Singapore 1960)

12.01.2022 Bravo & Thank you to the leaders and adult members who have helped to keep Girl Guide districts and units running this term. Its been different but the time youve given to still give a fun and educational program has not gone unnoticed. Be proud of what you have achieved so far!

11.01.2022 An Open Letter to Parents of High-School Aged Girls Dear Parent, It can be a challenging time when your daughter commences high school! Suddenly she will find h...erself faced with new choices: who to become friends with, what to try, how to deal with pressure to behave in particular ways. She will probably be exposed to concepts and ideas she didn’t know about, both formally and through mixing with other kids. She will probably become more immersed in technology and devices than you’ve ever seen her before. This is all normal! Some of it is positive and some of it not so much. That’s where Girl Guides comes in. Some girls choose to leave Girl Guiding when they start high school. There can be pressure to get homework done, or she may have competing activities, or even a public transport commute that makes it more difficult to get to Guides on time. Sometimes girls decide that they are too mature or too old to be Girl Guides anymore! We understand. We just have two things to say. 1. The teenage years can be stressful. Your daughter has increased independence, and with that independence comes increased risk. She will be making decisions about relationships, social events, the way she interacts with others, her career and who she is. She may need to make decisions about illicit drugs and sexual behaviour. Girl Guides is about confidence, responsibility, self-respect and community. We can’t remove the challenging decisions, but we can help your teenager decide who she is, believe in herself, stand up for what she knows is right, and stay connected to the community. Overwhelming research shows that involvement in organisations like ours helps people become more mentally healthy adults. Encouraging her to stay in Guides is one way you can support your daughter in challenging times. 2. We know she’s busy. It’s okay. She doesn’t have to turn up every week or go to every camp. We’re flexible. Once a Guide, always a Guide, so don’t close the door she is always welcome, whether it’s once a week or once a term. It’s also worth remembering that girls over 14 can be Junior Leaders with Units of younger girls, which counts as community service as part of the Queen’s Guide or WA Awards, and can even earn WACE points. Encourage your high school girl to stay at Guides if you can. At Guides, she will always have a purpose, a place to be herself and friend to talk to. Girl Guide Leaders of WA
