24.01.2022 Great quote for any teacher and certainly true for guitar teachers! As teachers we need to consider our students learning style and change our traditional methods to suit them. #musiceducation #guitarteacher #musicquotes

21.01.2022 There's no secret in teaching guitar to young kids. Just teach them the way they learn! This series of lessons makes use of a child's natural learning instincts. Children are visual learners and will naturally imitate the actions of a parent or teacher in the early stages of their learning journey, that's why this series involves the teacher playing short phrases and the student imitates them. The pieces use visually logical and easily memorable finger patterns. A story, wove...n into the pieces, evolves as the student progresses. In this video, lesson 23 in the series, the student recognises the ascending then descending melodic line and how the letter names advance in alphabetical order then go backwards as the line descends. Each phrase is two bars long and each bar contains notes of the same pitch. There is plenty of time for the student to mentally process the pitch and rhythm of the written music. As for being a part in an evolving story, we learn that the main character, Simon fancies himself as a soccer player but he is not very good at it. 20.01.2022 Teaching kids the way they naturally learn In this video, lesson 21 in the series, The student will: 1) Recognise the ascending step wise movement of the notes. 2) Relate step-wise movement to advancing letter names of the alphabet. 3) Note that each line of written music starts on an open string.... 4) The advancement of the letter names starts from the letter name of the string. 5) See and hear the teacher play the tune's two bar phrases. 6) Imitate the teacher's phrase immediately after-woods to the backing track. 17.01.2022 Kids can play guitar now but take small steps to reading music. This series of lessons makes use of a child's natural learning instincts. Children are visual learners and will naturally imitate the actions of a parent or teacher in the early stages of their learning journey, that's why this series involves the teacher playing short phrases and the student imitates them. In this lesson, No. 24, the student will be able to recognise and play a two bar melody ascending and then descending. Up to this point students have been making the connection between the alphabetical order of notes on the stave and the alphabetical order of notes on the finger board. This piece helps reinforce that knowledge. As for being a part in an evolving story, we learn that the main character, Simon is convinced that the yellow coloured wax dripping from his ears is liquid gold and worth a lot of money. He develops a bit of a "I'm better than you" attitude. Will he get his comeuppance? 13.01.2022 You play a bit, they play a bit and they learn to read music. Mums, kids and teachers happy. Everybody wins! In this video, lesson 25 in the series, The student imitates their teacher to play the piece but must now mentally process notes of two different pitches in each bar. The student learns how to work out notes that 'skip' rather than move by step as in the last lesson. As for being a part in an evolving story, we learn that the main character, Simon likes to ride his s...kateboard and thinks he's pretty good. Subsequent pieces will reveal that he's not as good as he thinks he is.
